Tuesday Four: My town

Our Town

It's time again for Tuesday 4 hosted by Anne from Cottage by the sea.

Published each week in memory of Toni Taddeo, it's original author. We keep Toni Taddeo's original idea alive here with 4 questions each week to get you blogging, visiting and  learning about yourself and other bloggers. The more people join in, the merrier and the better it gets. We are always looking for topics, subjects and ideas so feel free to chime in if you have idea.

Maybe we can discuss the town  you live in.  It might be nice to find out more about where you live and why you live there. Sometimes we just fall into a place and other times we choose it.
Here's a chance to sing the praises of your town or uncover it's faults.. have at it!

1. What are the good points to living in your town? I love that our town is close to the freeway and only 20ish minutes either way (north or south) to a larger city. It is close to lakes rivers, hiking trails. Could you interest us in moving there? Haha! Honestly, until our local road infrastructure is improved I would prefer no one move here unless they purchase a home that already exists. Unfortunately while I love where we live, the managing of building houses, fast food restaurants etc, isn't very well thought out. We seem to keep building homes, apartments, etc, and our roads just can't handle the traffic. However, it is a nice place to live. You could even open a personal mailbox where I work in a super cute A-frame building that people love coming into. Below are some glimpses of our town.

Where I work. As much as I'd love to be home and not work, I do love my job and the people I get to interact with every day I'm there.

2.  Are the things you need convenient to your home? (shopping, library, schools, entertainment?) For the most part yes. We have a library, grocery stores (Safeway, Walmart, Grocery Outlet), coffee shops, restaurants and cute boutique vendor type shops. In the way of entertainment, it's mostly outdoor entertainment (hikes, activities on the lake or river). You have to go to the city for things like movies, malls, bowling, etc. In the summer we do have movies in the park. From time to time people have attempted a farmers market, but they never seem to do well.

3.  Did you choose your town or did you just end up there? My hubby grew up here so once we got married, we chose to live here. I grew up 2 1/2 hours NE of our current town, though I've actually lived here longer. I think I wouldn't have minded staying in my hometown though, but at the time, my husband was heading towards being on staff at his church and didn't want to move. Looking back, I think we followed the idea that the wife move where the husband is. Not that I minded, but there are times I wished I lived closer to my family.

4.   Is your town known for any special foods, activities, places or people? We are known for the Hulda Klager Lilac Gardens, The Cedar Creek Grist Mill, and a gateway to lots of river and lake activity, camping, and much more. As far as foods, we used to be known for the Oak Tree Restaurant that sat right off I-5 and fed many travelers. It was eventually sold several times and just isn't the same as it used to be. We do have quite a few coffee shops, Mexican Restaurants and fast food stops.

With Joy Unquenchable,
Kirstin
