Wednesday Hodgepodge

It's time for Wednesday Hodgepodge with Joyce, who blogs at From This Side of The Pond.  Each week she'll pose some questions for us to answer. What a great way to journal life.

1. It's officially spring in the northern hemisphere. Does it feel like spring in your part of the world? We're only a few days into spring, but it does feel a bit like spring. More things are blooming and our temps are starting to warm up. As I type this, it's Tuesday and it's cloudy, rainy and a bit blustery. However, Sunday, it's supposed to be in the upper 60's. So crazy. If you're in the southern hemisphere it's officially autumn where you live. Does the weather say autumn? Which do you prefer-spring or autumn? Ohhhh both, but if I have a preference I'll say Autumn for the sake of having to choose. Why? While I love something about every season, I love autumn for it's brisk weather, the stunning leaves changing colors, pumpkin patches and crockpot meals. We might wear shorts, we might start a fire in the fire pit or turn on the gas fireplace for the first time.

2. What's your favorite thing about spring? I love when days are starting to warm up and I love the smell of freshly mowed lawns. I love seeing the spring flowers beginning to peak through the ground and bloom. I love the sound of the birds in the morning and the frogs at night.

3. Spring into action, spring in your step, spring to life, spring to one's feet...which spring idiom currently applies to your life in some way?  Explain.  Oh boy...I would love to say spring in my step but I have been dealing with some achilles tendonitis and my steps are not springy. I'm going with Spring to lifeI love that so much is beginning to spring to life. Trees are budding and blooming, plants poking up through the ground, the grass needs to be mowed and smells amazing. It's a time of new life. It's also a time that we can spring to life, winter is gone, we might be feeling more grounded and ready to tackle goals. A few years ago I heard blurb that talked about how we shouldn't use the New Year as the time we set resolutions and make changes. We should wait until spring, like nature. We should use winter to store up, to maybe think or dream, but we don't make changes until spring. I loved that.

4. Which spring food from this list is your favorite? What's a dish you like that includes your favorite spring ingredient?

asparagus, strawberries, salad greens like mesclun, artichokes, spinach, eggs, peas, spring onions

I love most of those. I haven't really used mesclun and peas aren't a favorite. I do buy many of these things year round even though they're not in season during other times of the year. There is almost always asparagus, spinach and eggs in the fridge. Artichokes are considered a treat and I might buy one once in awhile!

I love artichoke and spinach dip. I also like roasted asparagus. This reminded me of this asparagus quiche I made when I was part of The Secret Recipe Club. I loved that group and was sad when it ended.

5. What's one task on your spring cleaning list? Oh boy, probably windows. Do you actually have a list? I don't have an actual list. I rarely have cleaning lists..I just decide to do on what days I feel like doing them.

6. Insert your own random thought here. I just finished up the current season of When Calls the Heart. I love this show and I'm so excited for a new series coming out called Hope Valley 1874 which is about Hope Valley at it's origin. I'm excited to see how it ties in. I love feel good shows.

I don't really have much else to share this week. This next weekend my hubby and I were supposed to go visit friends in eastern Washington, but that changed, so we are still taking Monday/Tuesday off from work and will do some things locally. I need to look up and see some different things we might find to do.

I'm finishing this up Wednesday morning. Later this morning I'm going with my mother in law to another friends house to play cards. I love that I have a mother in law I can easily hang out with.

With Joy Unquenchable,
Kirstin

  1. Hi,
It was hard for me to pick spring or autumn too. I did pick spring, because I am back in the garden.
I love that you are going to play cards. I use to play cards on my lunch break with my grandma. I worked in accounts payable for a company in the town my grandma lived in. I would head over during my lunch break and play cards with her and her friends.

  2. That is a special gift to enjoy hanging with your MIL! I love what you shared about the advice to hold off on resolutions until the Spring. Smart counsel. Enjoy the days you set aside and are pivoting on. Happy Spring!

  3. I have a great m-i-l too which is a blessing. I worked in the school system for several years and still think of September as the start of a new year. Hope you find some fun ways to fill your planned time off.

  5. Sometimes it's fun to be a tourist in your own town. I checked out Atlas Obscura and found some neat things near me. You just never know what you're going to find!

  6. I love the smell of cut grass too. It makes me think of my grandpa. I sure hope your tendonitis goes away soon. I love the hear birds singing. We don't have frogs, but we do have crickets that drive me crazy. I love When Calls the Heart too. I don't have Hallmark Plus so I can't watch the new series unless I pay for it. I love Call the Midwife too. Have a nice weekend!
