Taking in Life Around Me.....Sunday Stills Color Challenge: Aquamarine
This #sundaystills challenge is hosted by Terri from Second Wind Leisure. It's a great themed photography challenge that you'll enjoy. I love seeing the other participants interpretation of the theme each week...it causes me to think outside the box. I joined in hopes of it pushing me to get out and take more photos...I have to some degree, but I also like that Terri is okay with us finding photos in our archives, which is also a lot of fun. So check out my photos and then head over to Terri's page to participate or visit other's posts. There are some awesome contributors who always inspire me.
I'm trying to get back to posting regularly, so here it goes. This months #sundaystills is a color challenge. Aquamarine is a stunning color, and like all colors has many variations. Here's a few I've found in my archives.
The next series are from my trip to Hawaii a few years ago...the colors of the water were gorgeous!
The remaining photos are from our trip to Colorado last September/October. The water was beautiful here too. When I looked up what makes the water the color it is, this is what I found:
Colorado's greenish-blue water gets its vibrant color from calcium carbonate (lime) minerals from limestone, finely ground by rivers, which reflect sunlight, especially blue and green wavelengths, creating a milky turquoise or emerald hue, particularly noticeable in tributaries like the Little Colorado River and Havasu Creek. This mineral suspension scatters light, making the water appear opaque and bright, especially where it mixes with clearer waters or against a white riverbed.(AI Overview)
It was beautiful. Haven't been to Colorado? I highly recommend it! Now, I found time to post, let's hope I can make time to get around and comment. Here's to an amazing 2026.

Amazing colors shown in the ocean of Hawaii, Kirstin! Beautiful pics of rivers in Colorado, too. The info about calcium in the water makes sense...I'm we have a lot of that mineral in our water, too. I see a lot of that greenish color especially near our falls. Thanks for sharing this week!
