Weekend Coffee Share...Come Sit with Me

It's another week of Weekend Coffee Share. I always love everyone's posts. Are you like me and try to visit everyone? It doesn't always happen but I try. I have loved getting to know different bloggers and I figure if they take the time to write a post, I'll find the time to visit, even if it's a week later. I truly enjoy what you all share and I often learn so much.

Check out all the other posts on Weekend Coffee Share, hosted by Natalie the Explorer. I'm off to go visit some now. #weekendcoffeeshare.

If we were having coffee or tea we'd probably talk about:

I shared last week a bit about our out of town trip with some interesting facts if you'd like to check it out. Here's that link. I'd like to do a whole post on the trip, but I also want to finish my posts from our trip last October...LOL. We'll see how that all goes. With that said, I did add another post. You can find that here. I have another one ready, I just have to add photos to it.

The weather: We had a few days of heavy rain, but we are back to warmer days. Not too hot and I'm loving it. Apparently today (Friday) there was some thunder but I never heard it.

What we're thinking about:
I've been thinking about an event coming up that my oldest daughter asked if I'd attend and take some photographs and video of. It's for the coffee shop both my girls work for. I'm excited to do it, but also nervous. I know we can be our own worst critics and while I'm social..when it comes to doing these kinds of things I'm much more self conscious and less confident. It's indoors, so this week I need to kind of work on practicing taking some photos inside with various lighting, etc.

What we're thankful for: I've really been enjoying my daily walks. I try to take at least one. I think it ends up being about 1/2 a mile, but it's just a nice time to have a quiet walk...listen to nature. Now and then I'll listen to a book or podcast but mostly I just walk. I love the birds and have been trying to pause to see if I can spot who is making what sound.

Around the house: We had a man out to give us a bid on building a murphy bed for our office/spare room. This will be nice if we have the grandkids stay the night or anyone else, or if one of us is feeling under the weather and doesn't want to get the other one sick.

We also purchased a few rain chains that we are trying out for our downspouts...we bought some good ones, but we're noticing them having trouble when it rains harder, with the rain splashing too much. So we'll have to test out a few other ideas before we. make a final decision.

The deer are helping themselves to my tomato plants and that's annoying. I hope I get some tomatoes.

What we're reading or wanting to read: I finished the book Lily Bennetts Bucket List. It was a cute read. I'm working on the book club book and that's it right now. I should probably start on another of the 12 books by 12 friends. Oh, I did finish Where the Heart is which was on that list. That was another really good one. I'm on track. I've read 6 of them. I may try to find the next one on audio at the library. I was just looking them up and one is 800 pages long...WHAT!! Yikes!

What we've watched or listened to: Hmmmm...not much this last week, which is sad. Not so much the watching part, and listening to podcasts has really slipped. I enjoy them. I did just put an audio book on hold. The Mountain Between Us, which was on my list of 12 from 12 friends.

For the love of food: This past week I made a new recipe from one of my cookbooks called Power bowls, but really it was simply ground meat cooked with seasonings and then a lot of spinach. It was good though. Simple, full of flavor. I also did chicken teriyaki bowls, and hubby brought home tamales last night (friday). Wednesday no one was home and I was helping my daughter with her coffee cart. For Fathers Day we took my in laws out for lunch. Our youngest is in Hawaii still and our oldest wasn't coming by til later.  I did make some homemade sourdough english muffins. They turned out good and were fairly simple. Next time I make them, I will roll the dough thinner. I think they were too thick.

Favorite quote of the week: Our theme last week for #WQ was Selfies, which was interesting. Here is my post.

Favorite photo(s): Last weekend was our towns celebration Days, known as Planters Day. On Thursday night we went and watched the Fireworks and then on Saturday we went and watched the parade. Our grandson was in the parade with his mom for their Churches VBS.

Waiting for the fireworks. We weren't sure if the kids would be able to stay awake. I ended up in the car with Pepper because she didn't like the sound...I feel like I might have shared this last week, but oh well. Anyways. Thankfully we parked very close and could still see them. However, I didn't realize my daughter had locked the car doors once we were inside and at one point I went to get out and set the alarm off. That was awkward and funny. We were pretty much parked behind that white tent you see there.
Great grandparents are the best and I'm so thankful these kiddos have my in-laws around.

Random or not so random things: As I sit here on Saturday morning, I'm trying to motivate myself to want to go workout at the gym with my hubby. He signed himself up and I can go as a guest. He goes twice a week by himself, and then wanted me to go with him on Saturdays. I'm fine with it, but 9/10 when Saturday rolls around, I just want a lazy morning, but we usually leave around 7. So that means no sleeping in for me. I mean I woke up on my own at 5:20 but still, I think it's the thought of just not wanting to go anywhere. Then I saw garage sale adverts on FB and thought "Man! I need a Saturday with nothing going on so I can just go around to garage sales".

I officially need glasses other than readers, so now I'm on the search for frames that I like.

I'm almost done with this puzzle. I'm a bit further along then when I took this photo a few days ago. I've liked it. It's challenging, good quality pieces.

The other morning I went to leave the house only to find this tree branch in the driveway. It was at least 6 feet long. Not terribly thick, but glad no one pulled out as it fell.

I took the kids on Wednesday to the Children's Discovery Museum. It's a neat little place that changes things around as they get donations. This time when we went in, there was a whole section for theater and stage production things. Kids could dress up and put on a show, and there was equipment they could play with.

I think that's about it for this week. It's nice so we're going to head out and play some bocce ball in a little bit.

With Joy Unquenchable,
Kirstin

  1. You've had a busy week, Kirstin. Your English muffins look delicious. The discovery museum looks like a lot of fun for the kids. They are really engaged. I love that you included a link to your selfie post. That was a great post. We watched a scary documentary called Taking Care of Maya. If you watch it, don't watch it with kids. It starts out slowly, but even my husband sat down and watched it after a while. It's about the CPS system and took place in Florida.

  2. Hi Kirstin,
I loved your final photo and recall being that young in one respect. I recall being puzzled by the allure of of electronic buttons and knobs. One day I set out to build a box of buttons and lights just to see if I could make it all work. Dad had a bunch of loose pieces and I tried wiring them all together. I was too young and didn't know enough to make any of them work and gave up after realizing that I simply did not know enough. Thankfully I quit before I plugged in a bunch of 12 volt lights to wall power. There would have been smoke - lots and lots of smoke and maybe a few lingering sparks to catch the garage on fire.
I may dream of being young again but I never want to return to any time when I knew so little.

And drain chains. . . I like the look of them but know I would never be happy with how they just don't work well. They will always splash and not route the water as desired. I've thought that perhaps a bound collection of smaller chains would do better, but even that idea quickly gets out of control as one would try to capture and route more water.
Normal drains just work so much better. . .

    1. That's a great story...I hope my grandkids always have an inquisitive mind. We'll see about the chains...my hubby will be like you in that he may not be happy with any because they may always have a flaw.

  4. Wow, you made your own english muffins, they look good. Good luck with the picture/video taking, you'll do fine. I know I'm my worst critic & 2nd guess myself constantly. You know you're the best person for the job since your child asked you to do it. Karen
