Weekend Coffee Share....Come Sit with Me

It's another week of Weekend Coffee Share. I always love everyone's posts. Are you like me and try to visit everyone? It doesn't always happen but I try. I have loved getting to know different bloggers and I figure if they take the time to write a post, I'll find the time to visit, even if it's a week later. I truly enjoy what you all share and I often learn so much.

Check out all the other posts on Weekend Coffee Share, hosted by Natalie the Explorer. I'm off to go visit some now. #weekendcoffeeshare.

If we were having coffee or tea we'd probably talk about:

The Weather: It has been beautiful. The last few days have been more up my alley, in the mid to upper 70's, low 80's. Next week is showing upper 60's-mid 70's with a bit of rain here and there, but hopefully not on Friday when we are supposed to pour more concrete.

What we're thinking about: Currently I am thinking about the things I need to accomplish this weekend and will I get this post finished. All are doable, I just sometimes begin overthinking things. Making a grocery list and menu plan for next week. I plan meals rather loosely...I may stick to the days or I may swap days or scrap it altogether. It Just depends on how it all goes.

I've been thinking about journaling since it was a question on one of the weekly link parties I join. It was our Wednesday Hodgepodge, hosted by Joyce at From this side of the Farm. One of the questions was if we enjoy writing in notebooks/keeping notebooks. I love the idea and utilize notebooks for several random things but because I never have cared for my handwriting, I haven't ever done more than that. Oh, I used to take notes at church, but never a personal journal/diary. I'm considering doing a photography type journal that I saw someone on a Youtube video share. It was on mindful photography and he keeps a journal always with him, he puts in it whatever he is thinking, feeling, something he came across that he liked, photos he took, a wrapper from a candy, a card, etc..He says so often we forget the experience and focus on if the photo is good enough. It's a reminder to slow down and pause. I am hoping to begin implementing some of these things into daily life.

What we're thankful for: I was driving to work the other day and listening to an audiobook. I again was thankful that I have begun to enjoy podcasts more, audiobooks more, that I am always learning something new, being challenged.

Our youngest daughter is in Spokane (been there since Tuesday) babysitting for a friend. She'll be home tonight. She took a spill on their e-bikes. Thankfully she's mostly scraped and their little girl who was on the bike was fine. She thinks she hit a bump. She tried to correct and couldn't. That girl needs some bubble wrap...lol.

Around the house: We got half of our steps poured around the porch extension. Hopefully the other half will be poured next week. That will look really nice when it's done.

What we're reading or wanting to read: I haven't started any new books. I'm really trying to finish the one I've been working on before I start any others. Well, okay, I did start an ebook I mentioned last week. I haven't read more of that one yet. I haven't had a chance to really sit and read the last few days. I am, however, thinking of getting a non-fiction one started and reading 10 pages of it each morning.

What we're watching or listening to: I've listened to a few more episodes from the These are Good Days podcast. The part two of Healthy family episode and one on grief that was really good. I didn't really watch anything on TV.

For the love of food: I think I need to take a little break on trying new recipes...at least maybe limit them to one a week. I think I mentioned last Sunday we celebrated our friends birthday. I made 4 cheese chicken fettucini with shrimp (I need to redo the recipe post). It's always a favorite. My daughter made a yummy peanut butter cheesecake. I did try a pineapple BBQ sauce meatballs, but I didn't really care for the sauce so we had the meatballs plain over rice. I don't often choose "bombs" but this one was not a winner. The meatballs were really good though. I also made some really good salmon. I created a glaze using balsamic salad dressing and adding some honey to it. I put it on right before it was done and put it under the broiler.
Today I made some DF/GF mini cheesecakes for a bridal shower my daughter is going to tomorrow. I'm hoping they turn out good! I think they will.

A favorite photo:

This girl is growing up so fast. talking so much more, so expressive. This little outfit reminded me of a cheerleader...I don't know why.

Indy's favorite shoes bit the dust. The velcro doesn't close anymore, so he decided to make himself a new pair. Pretty creative.

Favorite quote of the week: Last weeks theme for #WQ was Heritage/International Museum Day. You can find my post here. Here were two that I really liked.

I've said it before, that I wish I had taken even more of an interest in my heritage when more family members were alive to talk about it.

I love a good historical museum.

Random or Not so random things: Life just seems to keep picking up the pace, but I did manage to get around to commenting. I bought this new puzzle at the thrift store I visit weekly. They had another one by the same company with wine bottles, but I just got this one. I think it will be a tough one.

Mother's Day here was pretty low key. I had mentioned last week feeling a bit sad and buying some flowers. Once the kids and grandkids came, I was feeling better. We just visited outside while the kids played in the pool. Hubby bought a few pizzas. Later that day my inlaws came up. We played some cards and then I made dinner. It ended up being a nice day.

Other than that, I'm not sure what else to share. I had some thoughts, but now, can't remember what they were...probably should write things down more.

I am still plugging away at steps and have been doing good with it and with getting 5 miles at least 3 days a week. I have been a bit frustrated with what I think truly is "menopause belly"..men, don't laugh. It just seems to have appeared in the last several months and it's highly annoying. Ladies, if you've experienced this I'd love your thoughts.

Well, off to make some coconut cream, whipped topping and then to go to the gym with my hubby and help him with a project at work.

With Joy Unquenchable,
Kirstin

  1. Hi Kirstin - great catching up on your week - you had a lot more happening than I did! Interesting that you're getting the menopausal pooch belly thing - I think a lot of us have noticed that we're carrying a little more weight since menopause - and usually around our middle. I don't think there's a magic cure - just eating less of the bad stuff and keeping on with all the good stuff. And focusing on all the good bits that we still have going for us!

    1. I haven't hit full menopause yet..I was 6 months without and then "oh, hello, aunt flo"...now I have to start counting all over again. I agree..no magic cure and everyone is different.

  3. The porch extension is coming out beautifully! I look forward to finished job! I've been keeping a daily journal myself. It's a little A6 notebook which is easy to pack in most bags.
