Weekend Coffee Share....Come Sit with Me

It's another week of Weekend Coffee Share. I always love everyone's posts. Are you like me and try to visit everyone? It doesn't always happen but I try. I have loved getting to know different bloggers and I figure if they take the time to write a post, I'll find the time to visit, even if it's a week later.

If we were having coffee we'd probably talk about:

The Weather: Finally, I think summer has arrived. Our temps have been in the 70's and 80's the last few weeks and look to be that way for the next several weeks. Yay!

What we're thinking about: Well, now I'm thinking about how I just filled the house with smoke because I forgot something on the stove. I had put water in a pan to get off the bits of stuff stuck to the bottom and then walked out of the room and forgot. Ugghh I know better too and I didn't have plans to leave the room but for whatever reason I did. The smoke alarms went off. My hubby is outside on the porch (he works for a disaster restoration company), video talking to one of his co-workers....they were not humored by my faux pas. Oops. No, hubby, I really am not trying to drum up business for your company.

What we're thankful for: Now I'm thankful that the smoke alarms work and it is just a bit smoky and not worse.

What we're reading or wanting to read: I finished the Karen Barnett book Where the fire falls. It was really good. I just got another one in the National Park series (the last one in the series), called Ever Faithful. I also got the next book we're reading for book club which is written by Kristina Kuzmic called, Hold on, But Don't Hold Still. Then I'm still reading the More than a Body. I try reading 10 or so pages of that one each morning.

Around the house: I got all but 3 of my pots filled with flowers last Monday. Now I'm hoping they thrive and fill in. Next year I'll obviously buy my flowers earlier. We also got our front door painted. I love it. It's Sherwin Williams Urbane Bronze.

From the kitchen: Sunday we are having our oldest daughter's family up for dinner, and a friend of theirs who's a chef. He's going to cook us steaks and then I'm going to do potatoes and corn on the cob. I'm going to also make some coconut milk mango popsicles, and hopefully talk my youngest into making a dessert as well. We'll see. I may end up doing both.

Favorite quote from the week: Our theme this week for #WQW was a fitness followup and I followed Marsha's lead and shared quotes about obstacles in fitness, because I have felt like I've come up against some obstacles and have had to figure out how to work around them. You can read my post here

Favorite photo from the week: I didn't take too many pics this week. But I saved these "remake" photos the girls took at the fireworks stand. My youngest daughter and Indiana 3 years apart. So fun!

What we've listened to or watched: I've listened to a few Youtube videos that I've enjoyed. I listened to a podcast by Jen Hatmaker on adult friendships that was good. I also listened to a Reel by Mel Robbins talking about how resilience is in us. So good! I haven't watched much on TV other than weekly soccer games and a cooking show here and there. I guess I've "listened" to TV shows if my hubby was watching one of his shows while I was in the room...haha. Usually I'm doing something on the computer.

Randomness: Thursday night I attended another paint and sip that was put on by a friend of mine. I am by no means an artist..I mostly go because it challenges my comfort zone and I get to hang out with other people. That night I sat next to a gal I never met and we enjoyed some great conversations. Food was yummy and the painting was, well, it was not an easy one...haha. Here's a photo.

We babysat our grandkids for a couple of days last week/weekend while my daughter and son in law (my youngest helped too) ran a fireworks stand for their youth group. My hubby and I were youth pastors for about 16+ years and started doing fireworks fundraisers when my oldest was 6 months old and they've been doing them every year since then...so about 26 years total for my oldest daughter. They love it. I love having the grandkids at our house. I wish they lived in the same town so I could babysit them on Wednesdays at my house. I did that the last two weeks because Kaitlynn was in town at the church here (they normally attend the sister church about 20 minutes north which is where they live too). It was nice being here.

We stayed home on the 4th and just chilled here. One of our neighbors did a huge fireworks show on Saturday so we watched that. Monday after the grandkids left I finished planting my containers and I was just too pooped to want to go anywhere. They did have a big 4th party at the church my girls attend which is 3 minutes from our house but we weren't feeling up to a lot of people.

I also ordered some Christmas cards. My boss was doing a card order and so I ordered some at a great deal. These are the outsides. The two on the left have messages on the inside, and the right has message on the outside and the inside. I put them away so don't remember what they say.

  2. Hi Kirstin - I laughed that the book you read was called "Where the fire falls" and you mentioned it after setting off the fire alarm in the kitchen. Good on you for tackling the painting challenge - I thought your barn looked pretty spot on.

  3. "With Joy Unquenchable" indeed.
Kirstin - your posts always are and they're always so refreshing, even if a bit of smoke was involved. :-)

    1. Thank you Jennifer. It was a lot of hard work. I was intimidated the first few times I cooked something for him but he's such a kind and gracious guy.
