Weekend Coffee Share.....Come Sit with Me

It's another week of Weekend Coffee Share. I always love everyone's posts. Are you like me and try to visit everyone? It doesn't always happen but I try. I have loved getting to know different bloggers and I figure if they take the time to write a post, I'll find the time to visit, even if it's a week later.

If we were having coffee we'd probably talk about:

The Weather: I'm starting to envy those of you in warmer climates. We get teased with some nice days and then it rains for twice as many. I've given up trying to figure it out.

What we're thinking about: This thought popped up on my FB memories and I've been thinking about it today. I know we're at all different places spiritually but perhaps you can find a way to relate it to wherever you are at.

"Part of becoming yourself, in a deeply spiritual way, is finding the words to tell the truth about what it is you really love. God is endlessly creative in how he shares his presence with each of us. And the specific way he chooses to connect with you matters." From the book Savor.
Don't minimize the things you love! God loves those things too and because you love them, that is where you might feel your greatest connection...maybe it's working on cars, going on hikes, building things, music, nature, cooking, taking pictures, serving coffee. He is ALWAYS present! He never needs to be called upon to come hang out..it's us that needs to realize He's already there and tap into that connection...! And it's very likely that the things you're passionate about and love are what might be what many call "His Will" if you need to label it. I don't think He cares if you label it or not. There is something spiritual in everything we say and do, it's not limited, it's not only in certain places at certain times. It's wherever you are and whenever you are engaged.

Sometimes we so easily put off things we love to do as being important, especially if there are others around us who seem to be doing more "important" work, or are more "talented". We were each created so uniquely. I love this platform and seeing what others are doing with what they love. From writing to traveling to photography, to everything in between. Even just making us laugh with their posts.

What we're thankful for: A place for my feet to land. Life is seldom perfect is it, and there are times our homes are not peaceful places, there's chaos, irritations, tensions, etc...BUT if we are intentional, they can still be a soft place for our feet to land. I feel like that's our home. I am thankful for a place for people to gather. A place that I hope, when people walk through the doors, they feel like they belong, like they're family.

What we're reading or wanting to read: Finished the book club read "American Predator". Kind of crazy. Makes me wonder how many unsolved cases were his doing. I'm working my way through an e-book, "Permelia Cottage". It's a cozy read. I have so many e-books...anyone else? I don't know if I'll ever get them all read. Every now and then I go through them, look them up on Amazon to remember what they're about and delete some that I think I might not take time to ever read. Most of them I got free so I don't mind deleting them. I've added a few more books to my "reading list" on Amazon.

Around the house: Finally started pouring concrete to finish our porch. We have about half of it done, maybe 3/4 with the rest to hopefully be done in the next few weeks as weather permits. Because the weather has been sporadic, you can only do so. much. We're heading out today to the Farmers Market and hoping to look at some stools made by a local gal. We need some footstools for our living room. It's been so nice sitting around our island or just relaxing in that room. Last night I went in there, turned on the fireplace and finished up a 10 on the 10th blog post while drinking some tea. It was so nice.

No plans for much else around the house except that I need to weed, badly. My father in law did get the rest of the covering over the blueberries and I do need to get some hay or some sawdust to put around them.

From the kitchen: Well, the husband is still wanting to do the carnivore thing so I haven't gotten very creative. In fact I'm kind of bored, so I told him if we wanted to continue it, that was fine but I was going to make other things too and he would have to just not eat it. Haha. I did make tostadas one night and chili lime cod which was good. When I've made it before I make mashed potatoes as a side. The seasonings are what make this dish. A mix of paprika, parsley, oregano, chili powder, garlic powder, cumin, salt, pepper, cayenne pepper. The recipe here, has measurements, but I just sprinkle it all on and bake it. I'm sitting down today to make a grocery list for next week.

Favorite quote of the week: This weeks theme for #WQW (post here) was Water: Oceans and lakes.

While I'm not a fan of swimming, nor am I a strong swimmer, I do love water in all it's forms...well, except heavy rain or any rain when I have to be out and about. If I'm inside, then I don't mind it. There's something soothing, contemplative, relaxing, energizing about water. It has a calming effect. It makes us slow down and take it all in.

Favorite photo from the week

From my walk earlier this week...I love the road we live on...and the cows below are a new addition to the field at the end of road. There are normally two horses that board there.

What we've listened to or watched: Not much. The season of When Calls the Heart ended and that what I was mostly watching. Tomorrow (Sunday) there's going to be a baking competition on Magnolia Network that I plan to watch. I love the shows on that channel. I did listen to a few podcasts.

Randomness: I mentioned in last weeks coffee share that my youngest daughter was in a car accident. Well, last Wednesday she and a friend were in downtown Portland. They stopped at the Adidas employee store, put their purchases in the very back of the car, then stopped at a coffee shop to kill some time before she had to go do a photo shoot. When they came back from the coffee shop, they discovered that someone had busted out the back passenger side window. They didn't think anything was stolen, but later, her friend remembered that her backpack was in the back seat. She had forgotten it was there so she didn't think about hiding it or putting it in the very back of the car. Sadly it was stolen along with her computer. After they realized it, I reached out to a friend who's husband is a police officer in Portland and he called Kristianna and took a report. She was so mad. Her friend was able to lock everything on her computer. I doubt it will be found but there's always some hope. I told my husband that within less than a week we experienced the best of humanity with two guys stopping and helping the girls at their accident, and then some of the worst of humanity with someone breaking into her car. Yes, the latter is probably a "first world problem" in the grand scheme of things BUT when anything like that happens it brings a bit of fear. She told me "I just don't want to be afraid to go to Portland". Sadly it has become a city that while yes, crime always was there, it was still relatively safe. But not so much anymore.

  1. Hi Kirstin,
I share your regret that Portland has dropped so low. It used to be a very nice place to visit but in the recent past, we've been forced to watch as city leaders gave the city over to thugs.
    So sad.
But up on your street - there is so much beauty to enjoy and I'll bet your neighbors are a delight to live near as well.

    1. We do have great neighbors. Hopefully Portland can bounce back. I still like to visit but with more caution. and pickier about the areas we go to.

Your porch looks wonderful! I can't wait to see it all finished, new and "shiny"!

Hope you're week ahead is filled with much more *good than bad :-)

  4. Hi Kirstin - well that was certainly a counterpoint to your story last week about your daughter. I'm sorry that she's had an experience with the seedier side of human nature - such a shame, but there are a lot of horrible people out there and there seems to be more crime every day. I'm glad the laptop could be locked and hopefully there was a back-up for most of what was on it. Lovely to see your porch getting finished - you're going to really enjoy it when the weather warms up.

    1. Thank you Leanne. I know she'll be fine. She's a trooper. I can't wait to use our porch this summer...if it would stop raining enough to finish it and to be outside.
