Weekend Coffee Share......Come Sit with Me
It's another week of Weekend Coffee Share. I always love everyone's posts. Are you like me and try to visit everyone? It doesn't always happen but I try.
If we were having coffee we'd probably talk about:
The weather: It hasn't been raining as much as I thought it was, but still more than I'd like. I was hoping maybe it would be dry when my grandkids are here but it's not looking that way so we'll do a lot of playing inside.
What we're thinking about: A friend posed a question the other day asking if we would prefer standard or daylight savings time. I live in a state where we change clocks twice a year. (which actually all states do this with the exception of Hawaii and Arizona) I wish we didn't but I somehow just had it in my head that eventually it all ends up the same. I think ultimately, even though losing an hour of sleep at the beginning is tough, I NEED light, and the more the better, so I guess I would choose Daylight Savings. Arizona opted out in the late 1900's because of the extreme heat their state experiences. Hawaii opted out in 1967. Apparently since they are closer to the equator there isn't much variance in the hours of daylight throughout the year. After a bit more reading, the main purpose of DST was to make better use of daylight hours and by moving our clocks we move an hour of daylight from morning to night. Interesting. What are your thoughts. Would you keep DST or Standard time?
What we're thankful for: I'm thankful that I'm seeing people's faces at work again and that I can wear lipstick to work and even a bit of makeup. Though I wasn't a 24/7 mask wearer, I did have to wear it at work and I was just sick of it. It was a struggle constantly with fogging glasses, trying to see my computer keys, just not seeing peoples faces and everything else. It is kind of funny how all of a sudden when "someone" says okay, todays the magic day, you can take them off, boom, hardly anyone is wearing them, but the day before, you just might get a dirty look if you took it off. Anyways, we won't digress down that rabbit hole. I'm just thankful!
What we're reading or want to read: Just about done with my bookclub book (we meet this Friday at. my house...so excited but I need to get it finished). I'm almost done with the Green Lights book as well. One book (and I'm sure I could add more) that I'd like to read is "Will the Circle Be Unbroken", by Sean Dietrich, also known as Sean of the South. I follow his FB and IG pages and he is an incredible write with an amazing way with words. He has written a few other books as well. His writing captivates you. I also took time to read some of our own Gary Wilson's short fiction. I've been meaning to, and had some time this morning to read several of his 99-word stories. They were fun to read, especially his notes on them as well. The parents job assignements made me LOL.
Around the house: Well, we have a lot of things on order, I'm sorry Amazon. Hubby has ordered a lot of plate covers, etc for outlets. I've ordered several organizational items for drawers. I'm hoping maybe tomorrow I'll get them in place, perhaps move all my stuff from the hall bathroom to our new bathroom and maybe move a few things to the new kitchen. We'll see. At least I've made progress. I don't know if I shared that it seemed like I am "frozen" when it comes to getting things moved and functioning in the new part. It's almost like I'm just not sure what to do or how to move forward. I'm sure it'll all click once I get started, it's just the knowing where to start. last Sunday we did move all our bedroom stuff down to the new room. It's not fully organized because our closet isn't finished and we're waiting on our new furniture. In our 30 years of marriage, we have never actually had a bedroom set. It is nice having a bigger room but also weird being at the opposite end of the house. I keep thinking "I can't hear if cars come in the driveway, or when the girls get home". Ha! It was quite funny listening to Kevin and our buddy Danny (who lives with us) moving stuff from upstairs to the other side of the house. I worried I was going to have to help out from the sounds of them...I did have to help move a bigger dresser.
From the kitchen: The sourdough chocolate cake was a hit. I have my book club meeting this Friday (I'm typing this Tuesday since if I wait til the weekend when I'm babysitting, I probably won't get this finished) and it's one of the gals birthdays so I'm thinking I'll make a dessert. Her daughter said she likes peanut butter, so maybe I'll make a chocolate pizzookie with some ice cream. We'll see. It's Tuesday so I have no idea what I'll be making for meals next week. I do plan to make some dairy free banana bread with my grandson because he LOVES banana bread. It's Thursday now and I have a few minutes while Pepper plays by herself to finish this up. I made sourdough banana bread and it was really good. It's not your typical super sweet banana bread. There is only 3Tbs maple syrup in it and then bananas to sweeten it. If you like less sweet bread you will enjoy this. And it's nice and moist. You can find the recipe here. The sourdough gives it a nice tang.
Favorite quote: This weeks theme was St. Patricks Day/Green. You can find my post here.
Favorite photo from the week: Back story. My daughter (youngest) Kristianna has been saving for quite awhile for a new car. I love how good my girls are with their money....thanks to their dads teaching and example Anyways, she's been looking, researching and it was between a Toyota Rav4 or a Subaru Forester. She really couldn't go wrong either way because they're both great. Kind of like Nikon and Canon...both great cameras. She started taking a poll at work (she's a barista) with customers casting votes. I don't remember which one ultimately won. My co-worker and I did this and sent to her saying 'which one do I look best in". Ha! She ultimately chose the Toyota Rav. I said "okay, someday when I get a new one, I'll go with the Forester. I sat in one, and I was in heaven....of course the sticker price about did me in. Lol. We haven't had car payments in years and typically try to pay cash.
Random thoughts: We are babysitting the grandkids from this Thursday(17th) through Saturday. Their mom and dad are youth pastors and have a leaders retreat this weekend. I took the two weekdays off from work so I can just be with them. I think it will be easier than navigating babysitters, life, etc. I'm looking forward to it and hoping it all goes well. That Pepper doesn't want to be held 24/7 and that they both sleep really good. I haven't quite figured out sleeping arrangements yet. I normally babysit on Wednesdays but asked to not babysit this week so I can spend Wednesday getting online work done as well as some other things before they come. Lunch preps for hubby, etc. Anything that will make the time with them go smoother and easier, cuz Lord knows I'm not 20 something anymore.
Check out all the other posts on Weekend Coffee Share, hosted by Natalie the Explorer. I'm off to go visit some now. #weekendcoffeeshare

In Europe too we change hours in fall and spring ! I hate it because it doesn't safe at all ! In winter we have to get up one hour earlier so it's dark and you need light in the evening it's getting dark at 4 pm so you have to switch on the light again. Where is the saving ?? If we would keep the summer time we would get up one hour later (daylight) and come home in daylight because it would be 5 pm !!
ReplyDeleteI saw your banana bread I have never eaten one. Today when I did my shopping there was an "American week" with all specialities from the US. I hesitated to buy a banana bread and then I did not ! Funny isn't it.
It is so interesting, and even to read about why they started it and why some states don't participate. My hubby always hates leaving for work in the dark and coming home in the dark. And his office doesn't have windows so if he's stuck inside all day, it's hard for him. That's funny about the banana bread. It's so good. When we were in Switzerland in 2019, my daughter LOVED something called Mandel Creme. She brought home four jars in her suitcase. We don't have anything like it here and I've tried looking.
DeleteI love daylight Saving. It's the best. It means you can go out and about for dinner in parks etc. We used to make more use of it when the kids were younger.
ReplyDeleteI'm sticking with my masks. It's just easier. So far I've managed to stay clear of it, while friend after friend is getting it. I suspect it's just luck but at least I feel a little more confident. But I go out a lot...so I'm probably a higher statistical risk than most. #WeekendCoffeeshare
I agree...I think I like DST best too. It only takes me a few days to adjust and I like having more light in the evenings. My husband does too because he hates going to work when it's dark, and coming home when it's dark. You have to do what you feel good about doing regarding masks. I've seen people out and about with both. Thank you for visiting.
DeleteKirstin, I have no preference for DST or standard time. Freshly baked bread is the best. I hope you and your grandkids have a wonderful time and you all sleep well. Thank you for your #weekendcoffeeshare.
ReplyDeleteWe had a great time, but boy am I tired. The 3 year old slept great, the 1 year old, not so much. Lol!
DeleteYour post is interesting. Glad that you can wear lipsticks and makeup now. I understand the pain when the face is covered with a mask. It is same with me too.
ReplyDeleteHave a great weekend!

Thank you for visiting!
DeleteBusy ...yes but in so many good and caring ways. We have daylight saving here in some states and territories in Australia and will "wind the clocks" back an hour first weekend of April. When our grandkids were young - both sets of our kids' kids - we dropped most things to help with care. More than that, memories I still cherish were made. Our eldest Granddaughter is 25 and youngest who sadly we had less contact with due to moving away, is 6. Special times. I have a Nissan X trail and it is my BEST car ever!! Denyse #weekendcoffeeshare
ReplyDeleteYes, Denyse, totally agree. I love having them, even though I knew I'd be exhausted. I'm so thankful for Facetime too because it does make communicating with them easier when they're not close. When we moved from midwest US to Washington we had to rely on letters and calling when long distance rates were low. My daughter chose the Rav. Thanks for visiting Denyse.
DeleteBest of luck with the babysitting! I am sure it will be lots of fun and completely exhausting all at the same time. We laughed over the mask mandates being lifted too; on Monday February 28th my son had to wear a mask in school but on Tuesday March 1st it was absolutely fine to go without. I thought it was hilarious that they picked March 1st in the letter they sent home and hadn't just picked "Monday."
ReplyDeleteThanks Joanne. We did have fun, some trying moments (3 year old big feelings and a 1 year old who is loud and knows what she wants..haha). Thank you for visiting.
DeleteHi Kirstin,
ReplyDeleteWe're in the final stretch for a new (to us) used car. It will be for my wife and since we don't have 3 kids with all their friends to haul around any more, she's settled on a Honda CRV instead of replacing her ancient minivan with another.
It's kinda fun because the thought of not driving a minivan sorta freaks her out.
We did not do a photo poll - but I think that idea is hysterical.
All the best.
We've heard a lot of great things about the Honda CRV too. We'll be getting another car in the next year or two. Leaning towards a crossover SUV or honestly I drove a Chrysler Pacifica Van when we were in Texas and loved it. So who knows...I might end up going back to a mini van. Thanks for visiting Gary.
DeleteHello and Happy Weekending! Popping over from the Coffee Share post and happy to have found you. I stepped away from blogging for a bit but am determined to jump back in and I'm so happy to find others who are still using this format :-) Thank you for sharing about your week! I, too, am happy that C-19 numbers are down and we're able to act almost "normally" again. Stay safe out there and enjoy the sunshine on your face :-)
ReplyDeleteThank you for popping over. I usually end up getting around to everyone's posts by the time the next one comes out..lol. I'm determined to at least try and visit everybody if possible. I too had gotten away from blogging but have been trying to get back at it. I have some ideas I'd like to start doing but haven't yet. The little link things I join have helped me stay consistent.
DeleteLove the car pictures!
ReplyDeleteTHanks Alex. She ended up going with the RAV.
DeleteHi Kirstin - how lucky are you not to be wearing masks anymore? Here in Western Australia our Premier locked us in and locked us down so much that we just delayed the inevitable. Things opened up and within a heartbeat covid was everywhere and we're all in masks and doing RATS tests and PCR tests (not me....but a lot of people have to) and I just wish we'd bitten the bullet sooner so we could be celebrating leaving the masks at home in a drawer instead of trying to remember them every time we need to go to the shops! Loved your daughter's car pics and I'm glad she found one she's happy with - buying it themselves is so rewarding and they appreciate it so much more than having it gifted to them.
ReplyDeleteOh, that would be hard Leanne. Ugghh...we'll see what happens here. I tend to be kind of an alt-middle person as I heard someone phrase it. Our daughter chose the toyota. She's so good with her money. BOth of our girls are. I attribute that to my hubby.
