#WQWWC...Theme: Scared

It's another week of  Writer's Quotes Wednesday, hosted by Marsha from Always Write. If you're interested in joining, you can find more about #WQWWC here.

These weeks theme is spooky, but I don't really "do" spooky and I couldn't find any quotes that I even remotely liked, so I'm going to take a bit of a liberty and go with "scared". I hope Marsha doesn't mind.

Scared = being thrown into a state of or being in a state of fear, fright or panic.
Afraid = feeling fear or anxiety; frightened. Filled with fear or apprehension.

I'll admit, when I was in Jr. High, I liked some "light" scary movies, going to a haunted house, but as I got older, not so much. Much of it is probably because I just felt there was so much "evil and darkness" around it and it just didn't feel good to me.

Growing up when we lived in Ohio, everyone had basements. There was nothing spookier and more scary than a dark basement. Boy did our imaginations run wild. I mean, what could "really" actually be down there that was so scary. Okay, spiders and rats probably. Especially the cellars that you had to access from the outside. The others were just old and dark and while we did play in a few, the others we kind of avoided.

I used to be "scared" of the dark, I'm still kind of "scared" of heights. There are certain scenarios that make my senses go "on alert".

There are other everyday things that create a sense of "Fear" or that we are "scared" of.

Looking for a new job...this was me several years ago. I hadn't worked for 17 years and all of a sudden I had to go out into the world and find work. I was terrified. I was anxious. What did I know how to do.

Making new friends....especially as an adult, finding and making new friends can be so scary.

Oh so many things right? Not to mention it's "THAT" time of year where many people just love all things scary, spooky, horror.

This one (above) made me chuckle. I think it is true, that, there is some common sense in at least being afraid enough to pause and really consider before doing something that could potentially not end well.

Yes, yes, and yes!! We get to control the end result of being scared. It doesn't have to control us.

I thought this was beautiful. It reminded me of a quote from "We Bought a Zoo". "Sometimes you just need 20 seconds of insane courage".

Or I suppose someone could be about to do something really, really dumb. But let's go with brave.

With Joy Unquenchable,
Kirstin

  1. Kirstin, as usual, you hit the nail on the head. I grew up in Indiana, and we had what was called a daylight basement. Mom piled our laundry up on a table to be ironed. Ironing spooked me, for sure. The piles of it overwhelmed me. We never saw the top of the table. My dad had a lightroom down there as well. That was cool. I loved helping him develop pictures. Great-grandma had a coal furnace in hers, and I would go with her when she shoveled coal into it. I never went by myself. My dad's mom's basement was the most off-limits. I think she was afraid I would fall down the steps. I don't remember ever going down there. But I remember basements with all their spookiness with a touch of nostalgia. Thanks for joining in this scary theme. :)

    1. So funny. My hubbys dad was born and raised in Indiana (Goshen). I wish I had pictures of those basements

  4. You are braver than you think by acknowledging scary and working through it.
