I...Kirstin, as usual, you hit the nail on the head. I grew up in Indiana, and we had what was called a daylight basement. Mom piled our laundry up on a table to be ironed. Ironing spooked me, for sure. The piles of it overwhelmed me. We never saw the top of the table. My dad had a lightroom down there as well. That was cool. I loved helping him develop pictures. Great-grandma had a coal furnace in hers, and I would go with her when she shoveled coal into it. I never went by myself. My dad's mom's basement was the most off-limits. I think she was afraid I would fall down the steps. I don't remember ever going down there. But I remember basements with all their spookiness with a touch of nostalgia.
