Taking in Life Around Me.....#SundayStills....Theme: Sports and Hobbies
This challenge is hosted by Terrie from Second Wind Leisure. I've also been loving visiting the blogs of the other participants and being inspired by their interpretations of the theme.
This weeks theme is sports and hobbies. I was never into sports when I was younger, though I've often said I would've have probably been good at soccer or track, and if I had known about cross fit years ago, I probably would've enjoyed that as well. However, I do enjoy being active.
Right now we are on vacation in Central Oregon in the resort community of Sunriver. We honeymooned here and have come almost every year (or every other year) since we've been married. Our girls love it as much as we do. It affords so many outdoor activities, but also a relaxed atmosphere for hanging out inside and pursuing indoor hobbies.
This morning after breakfast we're hoping to head out for a hike, which is one of the things we love to do here...not a sport, but a physical activity we all enjoy, along with bike riding the many paved bike trails here.
Since the time our girls were 4 years old they have played soccer. They quit playing competitively when they graduated HS though they could have continued on. Our oldest also played golf.
Our oldest daughter's junior year, she tore her ACL. She made a great recovery and was able to both participate in her Sr. year of golf and soccer.
Both our girls got to play together for one year of HS soccer.
Our oldest had never picked up a golf club before her freshman year but fell in love with the game and played all four years, even going to state.
Our oldest quit playing club her freshman year, but our youngest kept playing
My hobbies...? I wish I had time for more, and the ones I enjoy I don't always get around to.
We all enjoy hiking. My family likes to go faster than I do but it's fun. Yesterday we spent some time in the Newberry Caldera in the Deshutes National Forest. We hit the Big Obsidian Flow, Paulina lake, Paulina Falls and Paulina Peak.
I love biking, not for sport but for the sheer enjoyment of it. While here in Sunriver, we've biked a few times but we've all been at varying degrees a bit under the weather, so not as much as we normally might. As we were driving to hike, we saw several mountain bikers, heading up the mountain...CRAZY! But so impressive.
I have always loved reading. I don't get to do it near as often as I'd like. I love almost every genre but horror and sci-fi.
I love creating on my computer. Whether it's photo editing, VA work, blogging, etc.
Hiking on Orcas Island in August.
I love puzzles. They are so relaxing!
Cooking and baking...and reading cookbooks (I love them as much for the photos as the recipes).
I tried SUP last summer and really enjoyed it. I would love to do it more, along with kayaking.
I used to cross stitch, now I am trying to get back into something...but not cross stitch, I don't have the patience. I've been enjoying stamped embroidery.
Traveling and photography....whether it's local or overseas, I enjoy seeing the sights and trying to photograph them.
Crafts and DIY. I don't do this near enough. But last year I grew some calendula flowers and made a calendula salve. My naturapath did an online class and it was so fun.
Kirstin
You have some wonderful hobbies and leisure pastimes, Kirstin, as do your kids! When my daughter was in junior high and high school and even college, I think most of my leisure time was spent watching her games. Some seasons she played two sports simultaneously (club soccer, school softball, etc) until she focused on volleyball into college. Then she traveled to some games and of course I went too. It was a thrill, in which I bet you get when you watch yours! You and I definitely have photography and water sports in common! Enjoy Sunriver! My nephew lives on Bakersfield Dr.
ReplyDeleteThanks Terri. I loved watching my girls play! So fun. I'm wondering if Bakersfield dr is in Bend area...it doesn't sound like a "sunriver road name" but there are some new areas. We've always said if we moved, we wouldn't mind moving to this area.
