Taking in Life Around Me.....#SundayStills....theme: Afloat

This challenge is hosted by Terri from Second Wind Leisure. I've also been loving visiting the blogs of the other participants and being inspired by their interpretations of the theme.

This week Natalie from Natalie the Explorer is hosting. She'll actually be hosting for the next few weeks while Terri takes a break. The theme for this week is "Afloat".

This could be taken a few ways....literally (which I always lean towards), or figuratively. Sometimes we feel like we are barely staying afloat. We've all faced those moments to some degree or another. Of course we may not document those moments in photographs, but it is something we experience. The question is always, what do we do? Do we keep struggling or do we look for something to grab and pull ourselves up and out with?

I cannot float in water for the life of me. Really, I try, but I cannot float. Lol. So I rely on rafts, inner tubes, something other than my own body to stay above water. Thankfully during seasons of life when I felt like it was hard to stay afloat, I had the right tools to get through it.

A family of geese at our local nature preserve.

My hubby captured these deer floating across the river while here on our trip to Sunriver, Oregon. Video is below.

My grandson staying "afloat" with the help of his life jacket during swim lessons a few years ago.
I love bodies of water and the peace they evoke. I love enjoying watching wildlife and plant life. This little duck was swimming on one of our local lakes recently when I took my grandson on an adventure.
Florida trip in 2018...my daughter and her spike ball net afloat in the pool. She was probably standing, but they created a way for the spike ball net to float so they could play in the water.
Butterflies always seem to be floating on air.
We saw quite a few turtles swimming and sunning themselves on logs at the Forth Worth Botanical Gardens earlier this year. This could be a great illustration of trying to stay "afloat" and reaching out to grab on to something to pull ourselves out.

  1. You've got a beautiful collection of Afloat photos, Kirstin. The deer video was a terrific recording. I love seeing the sweet family of geese and the turtles sunning while one of the turtles tried to get on the tree log. Great photos of your grandson and daughters in the water, too. Thank you for your contribution to #SundayStills.

  2. Kirstin, your post is lovely. Adorable grandson floating comfortable as if he were in his crib. I am exactly opposite of you. I can't sink. I literally could stand in the deep end of our pool without moving a muscle, breathing in and out normally with my head and shoulders above the water as if I was standing on a ledge. It is the weirdest thing. What I couldn't do is dive to the bottom of the pool.

    1. He LOVED the swim lessons. Now he just needs to take them again. That is too funny. My MIL is the same way, she can't sink.

  4. Hi Kirstin! First of all I appreciate your support of Natalie's hosting SS while I'm on my break. Your floaty photos are lovely and I LOVE the one of your grandson floating--so ethereal-looking the way you captured it! Secondly, thanks for your comments on my SM posts as we experienced one of the best weekends we've had in a long time! Next weekend looks crazy again although we are not traveling--people are traveling to us! Take good care!
