Weekend Coffee Share....Come Sit With Me.
If we were having coffee we might discuss the following things because we want to know what's going on in each others lives right?
The Weather: We are back to normal PNW weather. A little chilly in the mornings and evenings, and warming up throughout the day. Much better! No rain, which we could use, but there doesn't seem to be any in the near future.
What I'm thinking about: The importance of honesty, truth, trust and believing the best about people BUT not being afraid to confront behaviors that need to be dealt with. I am a very trusting person. I might even too a fault sometimes, believe that everyone's intentions are good, and why in the world would anyone even lie to me. I know, I know! I do have a healthy dose of reality thrown in there, BUT I just want to believe 100% the best about everyone. So that's where my thoughts have been going this week. I can't really share the situation BUT it's been something that's been at the forefront this week. Continuing to love and value people and yet expecting them to own up to behaviors that are hurtful to others and themselves. To be honest, it's made me tired this week.
What I'm thankful for: I'm thankful for the people that I can call my tribe. Whether in real life, those I grew up, went to school with and stay connected with via social media, and now more bloggers that I have found to follow and connect with. I love hearing about everyone's lives and learning so much about their lives and how they live wherever they are.
What I'm reading or have read: I finally finished my book Miss Benson's Beetle. It was a great book. I recommend it. I just started my new book club book "The Last Thing He Told Me". It came on Tuesday so I've started digging in. I think I'm going to really like it. I'm going to start reading Antoinette's book Daily Bread as well. She's a regular contributor here on Weekend Coffee Share so you might recognize her name...if you haven't read her books, you should. They are so great. I also started reading one of Joanne Tracy's books (another contributor to WCS). I love supporting other people.
Around the house: We're finally coming around to making decisions. It's been tricky because if we each had our own house we would decorate completely differently...haha. So finding something that makes us both happy can be tough. I lean more towards farmhouse, cottage, but can go craftsman and think boho is kind of fun. I love antiques and vintage too. My hubby is more traditional and modern, craftsman...So! We have made a decision on flooring, cabinet and island colors and granite for kitchen. One thing we didn't really want is "what everyone else has", or "builder grade, oh you see this everywhere". He wanted something unique and different. I'll share pics below. The drywall is being mudded right now and it's looking so good. Oh, I'm excited to be in that part of the house.
This will be the granite on the kitchen island which is very large because it will function as an eating area.
The floor is the one laying flat..the island color is on the left, and the cabinet color is on the right...we might go a touch lighter on the cabinet. We had the bathroom tile picked out but the gal who is helping us took the samples with her. We're making progress.
What I'm learning, realizing or understanding: Hmm..to be honest....boy, sometimes I think I just go on auto pilot, the weeks over, I start this post, and often I get to this part and go, hmmm...I can't think of anything, I just don't know. Am I just tired, is life that mundane that I just do the same things everyday! I did think after my workout today "yes, my body is stronger than I think it is"....I've been struggling the last several months with exercising, some hormonal things, some lower back aches, and it's been discouraging, but I've tried to listen to my body, to take things slow, to ease back in, to give myself a lot of grace. It's so important that we do that. Don't you agree?
From the Kitchen: This last week I made homemade Twix bars. They turned out really good. I used this recipe. If I made the same recipe again, I'd double the caramel recipe. I also made two loaves of sourdough bread. One to give to our dry wallers, and the other for us. I'm surprised it lasted longer than one day. Dinners have been fairly basic, nothing new, nothing special.
What are your favorite summer recipes?
Favorite quote of the week: From my #WQWWC on culture. You can see more of the quotes I found here. Culture fascinates me.
What I listened to: I just listened to a podcast by Carlos Whittaker doing an interview with Leanne Miller. It's the story of her marriage and meeting her, at the time, Amish husband. It was so sweet and funny. My father in law was raised Mennonite in Indiana and so it was fun listening to this.
Random Happenings: I hope everyone had a good 4th of July. I was bummed because our neighbors who normally put on a great show on the 4th, did it on the 3rd and I missed it. On the 4th we went to some friends house for a few hours then came home. We didn't have plans to go anywhere and I had a bit of a headache. At about 9:30 our girls said we should come where they were to watch, but by that time I was in pajamas and I hate navigating neighborhoods on the 4th. Soooo we just stayed home.
I replanted some seed in my containers. Some just weren't coming up good. I do have a good size zucchini plant, my snap peas are coming up and my tomatoes are still doing good. Also getting a great blueberry harvest. Yay!
Has anyone made homemade Mochi? I'm eating a store bought one right now, but recently watched an episode of Magnolia Table and Joanna Gaines made some. I'd like to try it. The one I'm eating has ice cream in it. The ones she made used red beans and sugar. Hmmm....
We watched our grandson and granddaughter last Saturday. It was warm enough for him to play in the little blow up pool we got. It was so sweet....I had been trying to find a pool, but our local Walmart kept selling out. I'm sure I mentioned it several times at work. Well, last Friday I was at work and the phone rang. My boss answered and it was one of the gals who has a mailbox with us....she was at Walmart. She remembered me saying that I was looking for a pool...they had them and did I want her to grab me one and I could pay her later. How sweet is that!!!
Photo of the week:
Grandson playing in the pool. So much fun. I would've joined him except I was holding baby sister.
These flowers were at our friends house. I'm not sure what they are but I love the leaves. I'm sure they're in the daisy family? If anyone knows tell me what they are.

Chilly summer mornings followed by a warm day is the best! I am so happy that the horrible heatwave you guys experienced are over. How is the fire situation? I haven't heard anything in a few days, which is unusual at this time of the year. Thank you for the coffee and best of luck with the house.
ReplyDeleteI am so glad it's over too. So far I think the fire situation is good. I haven't really heard of any other than a small brush fire here or there but they seem to be put out quickly.
DeleteGlad to hear you're back to normal PNW weather and you're making good progress on the house. Thank you for sharing your photos and updates with #weekendcoffeeshare.
ReplyDeleteThanks for visiting Natalie. I've been behind in visiting everyone. Gotta get on that...lol. I'm glad we're back to normal too.
DeleteHi Kirstin, I love hearing your thoughts about this remodel you're going through. As much as I'd love parts of this myself, I just don't see us ever taking on such a project. For us, it would be (and likely will be) much easier to just buy something that appeals to us both without going through the building for months on end.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the glimpse though, I really do enjoy weeing it through your eyes and words.
I'm hoping this will be our last...lol. If we ever sold our home, I told my hubby I want to buy a house already done. Lol.
DeleteSo much to love here. Firstly though, thanks for the shout-out, I do appreciate it. Love love love that granite & looking forward to seeing how it all comes together. Those twin bars also look like the kind of thing my husband would enjoy. Have a great weekend.
ReplyDeleteThank you Jo. Someone said the granite looks like you're looking down at earth from space when you see the photos of all the geographical types, etc.
DeleteYour kitchen is going to be gorgeous! We'd had so much bad luck with contractors I'm ready to tackle my kitchen myself. And how sweet about the pool! I remember how tough they were to get last summer.
ReplyDeleteThank you Kathleen. I know it will too.
DeleteLovely hearing how excited you are to be getting all the house stuff underway - it's always nice when you get past the construction phase and into the more decorative stage. Really nice to see your grandie in the pool - very summery. We're in the middle of a very wet Winter week - lots of rain and gusty wind, so the summer pic was a nice relief from all that.
ReplyDeleteIsn't it so crazy how we can have opposite seasons.! Loved your most recent post too leanne! I'm way behind catching up with everyone. It's been a crazy week.
