#WQWWC.....June 16th Theme: Heat

It's another week of  Writer's Quotes Wednesday, hosted by Marsha from Always Write. If you're interested in joining, you can find more about #WQWWC here.

This weeks theme is heat or any variation of it! It's summer and so of course we could think of heat in regards to temperature, or we could think of heat in regards to pressure, etc..so many takes on a common word.

Years ago one of my favorite TV shows was " In the Heat of the Night". A few years back when I'd assist an elderly lady, sometimes we'd watch episodes on TV. I still enjoyed it.

I am not a person that enjoys too much "heat" whether it's temperature (give me 70's, maybe low 80's and that's it) or too much pressure (also referred to as heat, right?) I can handle quite a bit, but prefer to be comfortable...I mean, who doesn't. On the other hand, I love a hot bath, a hot cup of coffee, a hot bowl of soup and a hot campfire where we sit around and tell stories.

So, what did I find in the way of quotes for this great word?  Let's see....

This was a version someone shared, of a quote I saw while searching, that Ronald Reagan used..but I think it is so true. Oftentimes we do not make changes when we are comfy cozy. It is when we start to feel uncomfortable, feel some pressure, when the heat is turned up, that we make changes. If we think about it, we've all had this happen in one way or another.

"The heat of the battle is as sweet as the victory" Bob Marley

My girls both played club soccer and a victory won through a hard fought game was much better than one that was won easily. This also reminded me of summer days when it was so hot you could see the heat waves coming off of the turf fields (which could be up to 40-70 degrees hotter than the surrounding air temps). If the girls stood too long they said they could feel the heat.

"In the heat of the moment, things get blown out of hand" Dave Martinez

Oh boy, is this true! Rarely are things resolved in the heat of the moment. Usually, if we're not careful, we end up saying or doing things we later wish we hadn't.

"Wind is God's way of balancing heat" Unknown

There is nothing like a wonderful breeze on a hot day. To have the wind kick up and cool us off even if it's just for a moment.

"Happiness is....a glass of cold water after a walk home in hot weather." Unknown

Or a glass of iced tea or an iced coffee....or anything cold for that matter.

"You can feel it in the streets. On a day like this, the heat, I feel like summer" Childish Gambino

I thought the above quote was kind of fun. I imagined walking down a town street, maybe somewhere in Florida, feeling the heat, the people around and it feeling like summer. And how "we" can feel like summer. There's just something in the air that makes us happy, makes us feel sunny, makes us lift our face to the sky. At the same time, I remember going to Vegas in June and we would walk through the hotels to simply escape the heat even if it was just for a few minutes.

I liked this last one. Filled with hope and with purpose. For me it's to be an encouragement to others, to provide light, to provide warmth, safety.

Have a great week friends.

  1. Wonderful post, Kirstin. I love all your quotes. especially the one about change. Probably if we had not had the heat of all our breakdowns at our home in CA, I would never have agreed to sell it and move. We left it in great shape for the next person, but I was done, done, done. Our condo has been a blessing of very little work and very cool on hot days that insist on reaching into the 100s even here in the mountains of AZ. Never be fooled thinking it will be cooler in the mountains. Cooler might be 100 instead of 115. So have an iced-cold glass of something refreshing, put up your feet and enjoy the laziness of summer for a few minutes. :) Have a great week. :)

    1. Haha...that is probably true about thinking it'll be cooler in the mountains, especially there. Here it usually is cooler because of so many trees and the mountain breezes.

  2. I love hot days, we don't have many of them here, so each one is deeply appreciated. But I agree it is all about the moment and what is in our mind, being by the beach or in a city, it really makes a difference. Great quotes!

    1. We tend to stay fairly mild on the west side of the state but every now and then the temps soar and it's just too much. I'd love to have a pool or hit the water more to just sit and relax. I'd plop a chair in the water and sit and read with a good book.
