Weekend Coffee Share...Come Sit with Me

The weather: The weather this week has been gorgeous! A few days in the upper 80's-low 90's and has gradually meandered down into the 70's. Tomorrow is supposed to be in the upper 50's with rain...Typical of the NW, especially our region which tends to have milder weather than the east side of the state and more of a maritime type climate because we are close to the ocean.

What I'm thinking about: I'm not sure about you, but sometimes I feel like some weeks seem crazier than others so I have found myself just repeating the things I need to do in my head, making sure they are on my calendar (I like using Artful Agenda on my computer and phone). Thinking ahead to next week and what is happening, and what needs to get done.

What I'm thankful for: I'm so thankful to live in a beautiful area, where, yes, we do get a lot of rain, however, when it's a sunny, blue sky day, it is stunning and I love it. I've been thankful for just the simple things in life. From my bed, to my morning coffee, to hugs or chats from friends or random people. I'm thankful for the life I have lived and for the perspective I've chosen. Because we really do get to choose.

What I'm reading or have read: I'm so excited. Today I should be getting my first Shelfrighteous Book Box. This months book is called Miss Bensons' Beetle and I can't wait to start it and see what else is in the box. I'll come back and edit this with a photo. I'm also still reading the previous books I mentioned. I've been slacking on my reading.

From the kitchen: This week has been busy so I haven't cooked as much. We've done some leftovers. Monday being Memorial Day we had my in-laws up and both our girls were here. I did chicken legs, tortellini salad from costco, and other misc. things. We had leftovers on Tuesday. Wednesday was taco soup which is usually in the weekly rotation because it's so easy and last night (thursday) I did spicy shrimp over creamy cauliflower rice. Another easy fave. My daughter sent me a code for Hello Fresh so I got a box yesterday. I don't think I'll keep the subscription but we'll see. I tried one of the Hello Fresh meals tonight. It was an indian inspired dish (I think), a yogurt marinated chicken with cous cous and roasted carrots. I loved it. I'm not sure my husband would say love...lol. And where has cous cous been all my life. Do any of you cook with it?

Favorite quote from the week: This week for our WQWWC I chose the topic of friendship and this quote has been one of my favorites.

One that I thought was cute was "In the cookies of life, friends are the chocolate chips".

Around the house: Sunday morning my hubby and I went to Portland and finalized and purchased appliances for the house (the part that we are finishing if you've been following along or if you haven't). That was a load off. On Wednesday we went to a flooring, tile, etc place and spent about 2 hours with a gal discussing options for flooring and tile for the bathroom. Oh boy, I could feel myself shutting down at about 1 1/2 hours. I was done...lol. I think we're closer to decisions on that. Finding a style we both like or could be happy with, when we really both have different "style" preferences is always interesting.

Leaning this direction for bathroom and shower tile.
Possible two flooring options, just not sure which one.

What I've listened to: I haven't listened to anything new this week. It has just been one of those weeks that I didn't really get to sit and focus on anything for any length of time. So other than my Spotify playlist and IG stories, I haven't listened to much

Story of the week: I had a chat with a lady at work today who was shipping a package to her husbands aunt who was 93 years old. She told me it was a glass dish. When her mother in law was 9, her mother abandoned the family. She had to learn at a young age to cook and help take care of the house and kids. Her father eventually married the woman he hired to clean the house, but her sister never really got over being abandoned and now at 93 (the mother in law is now 100+) said she had nothing that was their moms. The lady told me she had two things, an upright piano and a glass dish. The aunt chose the glass dish. Such a simple thing, but something that tied her to the past. It was such a neat conversation that I was glad we were able to have. I hope that the dish brings healing to a 93 year old little girls heart. The gal told me her mother in law seemed to be able to move on and past it. We shared a bit more, but we just really never know the lives that people have lived, the heartache or joys, or tough times they have faced.

Random Happenings: My daughter and I are doing a garage sale this weekend. That kept me really busy earlier in the week, trying to work, get set up (we do it at my inlaws since they actually have a garage), make sure everything was ready. I headed there today after work for the last hour and a half and will be there all day tomorrow. I love garage sales because I love chatting with people who come through. I don't like garage sales for all the work they are. I used to do them every year and the money I made from what I sold went to pay for my girls homeschool books. Now it goes towards whatever I want or something we need.

We had a nice Memorial Day weekend.

On Saturday we met my daughter down on the farm (her hubby grew up on a dairy farm and while they had to sell the cows, his family still lives on the farm land. An uncle raises beef cows and hay and his dad does pumpkins) and went for a walk with her, baby Pepper and our grandson Indiana. It was beautiful.

Sunday we went and purchased our appliances, then headed to the inlaws for lunch and my father in laws birthday. Later that evening I went grocery shopping, because, well, it has to be done.

On Monday we were going to go on a hike but my back was acting up. We opted to head into Portland and try a new ice cream shop. So good. Later that day we had my daughter and her family up, my inlaws, my youngest daughter was home as well. It was a beautiful and hot day so it was nice to just hang outside and visit, play some water toys with our grandson and relax.

Random Photo(s) of the Week:

One of the ponds on the farm. So beautiful.

It was my Father in laws birthday Sunday so we all went there for lunch. Here he is with his 3 great grandkids. Indiana in front and Pepper (right, dark hair) are my daughters kids. Little baldy is my nephews little boy. The two babies are 3 weeks apart but were supposed to be born within a day of each other.

Okay, I think I'm done. I'm surprised I even got a post finished. Hope you all had a nice week. I will be by to visit you soon.

  1. I loved the AA Milne quote too (and pinned it). It reminded me of the way I've been feeling lately - that it's up to me to make an effort to reconnect with my real world. I've tended to withdraw since stopping work and during covid, and being online a lot masks that. So it's offline and into the real world I go - out of the forest and into the big scary wide world! Wish me luck!

  3. Sometimes there are just too many choices. I think I would shut down after 1.5 hours of trying to choose flooring too, but the ones you show are beautiful! The photo of your FIL with his great-grandchildren is precious!
