Weekend Coffee Share....Come Sit with Me

Good morning!!! Welcome to another coffee share. Let's sit down and catch up on each others weeks, what's been going on, what we're thinking about. I'd love to know. I think I made it around to almost everyone...sometimes it takes me almost a week to do it but I do try to visit all of you.

The weather: Back to rainy, though we had a nice stretch of warmer weather a few days. I won't complain because it keeps our wildfire risk down. If we have too many dry days too early in the summer, wildfires seem to flair up more often.

Do you deal with wildfires where you live?

What I'm thinking about: My husband and I were talking about forgiveness this morning so this morning, that's what I have been thinking about. It's so important to not hold on to unforgiveness, bitterness, anger. Not so much for the other person, but for our own well being. I haven't gone through a truly horrific event that others may deem hard to forgive, so I don't know what I would do in that circumstance, BUT I don't believe forgiveness is saying "what you did was okay", or even that you can have relationship with the person again. It is more of a release of the hold of what you did has on my well being. I won't let it weigh me down, I won't let it disrupt my life. Whether it's ever asked for or not, it doesn't matter because I'm releasing it.

What are your thoughts on forgiveness?

What I'm thankful for: I'm thankful for my resourceful husband. I'm thankful that for our entire marriage he has been so good with our finances. We have followed Dave Ramsey and Larry Burkett and it has been so helpful. I'm thankful that we are both employed and like our jobs.

What are you thankful for?

What I'm reading or have read: I started the new book Miss Benson's Beetle. It's good so far. I've been joining a few link parties and so have spent a lot of time reading those entries, which actually have been fun and enlightening. I think I need to stop joining too many more as I find it's hard to read them and I feel bad if I only read a few. Also still reading Antoinettes beta book and enjoying the story very much. I still haven't started the book The Sweetness of Doing Nothing. Another book I saw that my hubby had was called "Thanks! How practicing gratitude can make you happier". I think I'd like to read that.

Have you read anything new?

What I'm learning: Not much. I haven't been good with keeping up on my Duolingo. I actually think it would be fun to learn how to make Mochi. My daughter and her friend and I were talking about it last night. I watched an episode of Joanna Gaines Magnolia Table and she made it.

What are you learning?

From the kitchen: This week has been kind of "meh" in the kitchen. I did try a couple Home Fresh meals this week. I had a promo code so I tried it. Both meals were really good and I actually would do this if it was just my hubby and I. I find that it's not enough food for everyone and we tend to like leftovers. BUT def. would do a few meals a week for just two of us. I would maybe plan 3 people or even 4 so we'd have leftovers. My hubby is having some guys up tomorrow so I'm going to make a lasagna for a main dish and then some jalapeno poppers.

What did you cook this week?

Favorite quote from the week:

And then I told my cousin after talking about a dentist appointment.."I have so many crowns, I could rule a couple of countries". Ha! It's true.

Around the house: Insulation is being sprayed this week in the addition. I just remembered I did a video on IG stories and then forgot to save it of what the rooms will be. Shoot! I'll do another sometime in the next few weeks. We opted for spray foam insulation. I'll share a photo next week when it is done. We did this in our first phase and it's a great option. After this, I think it's drywall next. We are still deciding on counters and flooring.

Otherwise around the house, I got my containers planted with some veggies. I need to get one more thing. I wanted to plant some snap peas but accidentally bought regular peas. I love eating snap peas with hummus. Our garage sale went great last weekend. I don't tend to accumulate much so I did't have as much to sell but made $165 so that was nice. My hanging baskets are still doing amazing.

We did have a bat in the new part that we had to catch and release outside. That's always an event. Yuck.

What's going on around your house?

What I've listened to: Well, I haven't listened to much lately. Just not a whole lot of time and I tend to need quiet so I can focus on what I'm listening to.

What have you been listening to?

Story of the week: I have always had issues with my teeth. Fillings since I was little, braces, wisdom teeth out, and as I got older, I still struggled with cavities...my hubby could go years without a dentist and not have one cavity. I go twice a year and almost always have something they're watching. I'm 52 now and have had to have several crowns over the years. I went in a few weeks ago to have a cavity fixed and a crown replaced, this last Wednesday I had another appointment to have the permanent crown put on and then have two cavities filled on the other side as well as another crown. They decided they didn't like how the permanent crown was made so they were going to send it back and put the temporary one back on. We were chatting and I was saying how in the 28 years we've gone to them and since I started getting crowns, I've NEVER had an issue with a crown. Never had a permanent one come off, NOTHING. They finished up, and I left. It's about a 20 minute drive to the dentist. I got home and was barely home an hour when I thought "I'm hungry, my mouth is becoming un-numb I think I'll eat a piece of cheese...it's soft". Well, I felt something hard and lo and behold my temporary had popped off. I quickly called the dentist back and they said to come in...so another drive into the city. The dental tech got a good laugh (we both did) because we had just talked about this, so we must've jinxed it. I was paranoid the rest of the day and only ate really soft stuff. Uggh..I go back in two weeks to get both permanent crowns put on.

Photo of the Week: I took this one real quick while at work...the sky was so weird...does it want to storm, does it want to be sunny. It has had several days like this where we just weren't sure what it was going to do.

Have a great weekend everyone and a great week next week.

  1. We've had a few days of really weird skies where it looks like it's just not sure what it wants to do. We don't often have to worry much about wildfires but we have had brush fires nearby (usually started by a person!) that we do keep an eye out for.

    1. I love when the skies are crazy though. We don't get big storms too often here so we really don't have much to worry about but there have been times I've said "oh, boy if I was in the midwest, I'd be worried".

  2. Well I had to Google what mochi was - looks a bit out of my expertise level - but if you do it, don't forget to take pictures - they look really pretty. Fun dental story - my poor husband has had a couple of extractions lately (signs he's getting old!) and we're looking at getting him a couple of implants - they're not cheap, but being able to chew for the next 30 years makes them worth the money and the fiddle faddle of getting them done. Dentistry has come a long way in the last few decades.

    1. I know. I've thought about when that time comes, if it does, what I'd do and I think I'd want implants, though they are so expensive.

  3. Spending time thinking about forgiveness and grace has to be one of the best ways to both spend some down-time, but also rebuilds your mind and spirit from the inside out. It frees us from the chains of hatred and the desire for revenge, and so many toxic effects of that kind of anger.

Besides, we too were forgiven of stuff and offered grace we did not deserve.

Bravo for a great coffee visit Kirstin and I hope your new crown works perfectly as expected.

    Blessings.

    1. I totally agree with you Gary...holing on to unforgiveness is so toxic. I know so many who just can't let go and you see how it affects every aspect of their life.

I hope the crown works perfectly too...lol.

  4. I live in an urban centre and don't have to deal with wildfires. I enjoyed reading The Great Alone by Kristin Hannah. The story is set in Alaska. I hope you have a wonderful week. Thank you for linking with #weekendcoffeeshare.

  5. I love that you have conversations about forgiveness (and other weighty matters like these) with your husband - it is so crucial to have a companion whom you share deeply with, and for which I am also very grateful.

One of Loving Husband and my conversations this week is about how we can help those who are feeling frustrated and lost given the craziness around us, in small & practical ways. It is amazing how quickly we can fall into despair if we are not careful.

    1. Thank you for visiting Ju-lynn....I agree with you about helping those who are feeling frustrated and lost. All of us in our family have worked this whole year and a half and I think that really helped us. I could not imagine having to be cooped up at home and I would have family with me. I think of those who have had no one.
