10 on the 10th......June Edition......19 Questions about Summer

It's time for 10 on the 10th hosted by Leslie at Once Upon A Time and Happily Ever After. This months questions revolve around summer.

I almost forgot about posting but I saw Leslies IG reminder. Phew. I had it started but never finished. Summer is always so interesting to me because for me, at least, it doesn't seem much different than any other season, but we'll give it a go.

10 ON THE 10TH 06.2021

1) What will make summer successful for you this year?

I would say summer will be successful for me if I can be intentional in taking time to slow down, read more, do some day trips, some hikes, just things I'd like to do for fun. It's so easy to get caught up in what HAS to be done that I forget to just relax more.

2) “500 Days of Summer,” “School’s Out for Summer,” somersault, “The Boys of Summer,” “Summertime Blues,” “I Know What You Did Last Summer,” “Midsummer Night’s Dream,” dog days of summer, “Endless Summer,” “Summertime and the Living is Easy”…which of these phrases resonates most with you and your plans for the summer of ’21 and why?

Hmmm....that could be a tough one...I'm going to go with "summertime and the Living is Easy". This summer I want to live life easier. I want to take advantage of down time, maybe not spend so much time on my computer (which will mean better time management because along with my 9-5 job, I do virtual assisting work and that can take time). I want my mindset to be more relaxed. Maybe easier meals, maybe sitting outside more. Whatever it looks like.

3) What do you look forward to doing this summer that you couldn’t do last summer because of C-O-V-I-D? What plans did you have last summer that had to be postponed, altered or canceled all together?

I'll be honest, I really didn't let it alter my life a whole lot, unless it was something that was intentionally "closed" or "off limits". So I guess it would be, I want to go to restaurants again, or go in stores without wondering if they're going to tell me to wear a mask. I want to go on trails that they closed because....well, we won't go into it. I want to go to parks with my grandson.

 4) Name something you will track this summer. Steps, calories, Weight Watcher points, money spent, books read, miles traveled, workout sessions, laps swam, miles run, gatherings with friends.  How will you track it?

I want to track my steps better. I realized after my girls got me a fitness watch for Mothers Day that I don't get nearly enough steps in a day, so I'd like to do that.

 5) Is there something new you look forward to trying this season? New recipe, new ‘do, new restaurant, new vacation spot?

I am looking forward to going to the San Juan Islands with my hubby in August. We plan to stay on Orcas Island and I've always wanted to go there. I do hope to try new recipes, and new restaurants are always fun to try.

 6) Share something you do on repeat every summer. Why is this activity on repeat?  Were you able to do that familiar activity last year during the pandemic?

I'm not sure if there's something we do on repeat. Maybe grilling more often. When our girls were younger it was the signal of soccer tournaments, and youth group fundraisers. When we were youth pastors every end of June-4th of July we ran a fireworks stand.

 7) Who will you connect with or reconnect with this summer?

I'm hoping to take a trip to southern Oregon to visit a blogging friend. Hopefully we can have some times of having friends up to enjoy a fire in the fire pit and just visit.

 8) This season how will you manage screen time for yourself and your family?

No kiddos to manage here, so for myself, trying to disconnect before bed and spend more time reading or doing a hobby. Making sure that my screen time is intentional and not mindless scrolling or watching a show just to watch it.

 9) What project are you hoping to tackle this summer?  Something around the house?  A craft?  A gardening or outdoor activity?

We are trying to get the second phase of our house finished. I need to do a post on this but haven't had time. That is the main project. Hopefully we can be done by October. If you search "home building" you will see what I'm talking about.

I would also like to do something with some leftover pavers we have from our fire pit project a few years ago. I'd like to tackle the endless amounts of photos and figure out a better system for organizing.

 10) How do you want to feel at the end of the summer?

I want to feel rested and refreshed. I want to feel like we were able to enjoy everything without the lingering heaviness of what has gone on the last year and a half.

With Joy Unquenchable,
Kirstin

  1. Yes, that last line "without the lingering heaviness of what has gone on the last year and a half." That would be an AMAZING way to spend summer! Also, I'd love to go to an island this summer but I don't think we have any nearby...

    1. I know. I just want to breath easy. We are blessed to live near the ocean and near the puget sound. I love it. Last summer I visited my aunt in Ohio. She lives on Kellys Island on Lake Erie. When we were little and still lived in Ohio we vacationed there. So fun. Something so chill about island life.

  2. I am absolutely trying to live a more slowed down summer as well. :) It is important, you can just schedule away the days if you aren't careful!

    1. So true...Ugghhhh.....we glorify busyness and think slowing down is lazy. So sad.

  6. Great answers. Amen to feeling refreshed. I think we all said something along those lines. And being more intentional. Some days I feel like I am just going through the motions on autopilot. I would like to be more intentional and enjoy a little more free time, too.

Had to look up the San Juan Islands. Sounds like a delightful place to vacation. Hope you have a wonderful time and makes lots of memories.

Here's to hiking paths opening. I can relate. The trails on one side of our transmountain road are open, while the trails on the other side aren't. Crazy!! Happily, we no longer have to wear a mask anywhere. Yay!! Hope you and the grand can have all kinds of mischief in the park this summer.

Hoping you finish up the house. We have about talked ourselves out of the path project we were planning on our side yard. With the heat wave we've had, I am glad!!
