Taking in Life Around Me.......#SundayStills.....Rainy Day

This weeks theme for #SundayStills is "rainy day".  I'm so glad I found this challenge by Terrie from Second Wind Leisure. Find her current post here. I've also been loving visiting the blogs of the other participants and being inspired by their interpretations of the theme.

"Rainy Days and Mondays always get me down..." The Carpenters

"When life gives you rainy days, wear cute boots and jump in the puddles"

I loved that song by the Carpenters growing up....and while I don't enjoy the rain, I wouldn't say it gets me down, I just love the song.

If we're talking literal rain, I live in a state that gets plenty of it, however I do not enjoy being out in it so I almost didn't join in this week, but I knew I probably had a few photos of something.

But then I also thought of other ways life brings us "rainy days" and while I don't have a lot of photos it did get me thinking....a flat tire, fender bender, being sick, injuring oneself, losing a loved one, the list could go on of rainy days we've all experienced, and the how we respond to those things makes all the difference in the world. So while I don't like literal rain, I know it is what makes our state so beautiful, so I roll with it. I don't like "life's" rainy days, especially when loss is involved, I don't handle loss well, but I know it happens and things happen and it's how I choose to deal with those things that makes all the difference in the world.

So I hope you enjoy a few of the photos I found, because, I had a crazy week and didn't venture out into it. I may add a few as we are going to the beach later today and it is supposed to be a rainy day.

Birthday party for my youngest (red sweatshirt)...a few years ago....it was rainy and nasty, but these girls went out played in the rain and the mud and then hosed themselves off before coming inside. Loved their free spirits to just get dirty. I don't think I could've done it.

Losing my mom (17 years ago) and my grandma (last year) were rainy days. These were two of my favorite women, but their memories and legacies live on in all of us. Above photo was taken probably in 2004, maybe a year before my mom passed away. Bottom photo is in 2019 when I took a spur of the moment trip to Florida to see family. So glad I did. My grandma was an amazing woman. She was 91.

On a trip to St. Augustine on one of our vacations to Florida. It rained for a bit, and I loved how these cafe tables looked afterward.
I love fresh rain on leaves....I went outside after a particular rain to try and get some rain drops on them.

The day we were in Bellagio Italy was a rainy one, but still beautiful. We managed to dodge it enough to enjoy the time there. We were a bit bummed that our views weren't as clear, but that's okay. When in Como we had a HUGE thunder and lightning storm, it was incredible.

I wanted to spend more time on this post, but, well, the week got away from me and we are heading out the door soon to go celebrate my daughter's birthday.

With Joy Unquenchable,

Kirstin

  1. You have a great depiction of rainy days, Kirstin, because we all experience them in different degrees. Your kids look blissful playing in the mud, and I really love the image of tables in the rainy alley. Really gorgeous. Enjoy your day at the beach and dance in the rain if you can!

    1. Thank you. The beach ended up being rain free...the drive there was rainy but I was the driver so no pictures taken. Lol.

  3. Kirsten, your pictures are lovely and so was your story about your mom. How sad that she died so young. She looked beautiful in the picture and very close to all of you. Thanks for sharing. :)
