A Goal Accomplished

Kat's small group made a list of goals for 2010. One of Kat's goals was to make a 12 layer cake! Why, I don't know but it was one of her goals. She had some crazy ones, like eating a pineapple on the Caribbean. She had some realistic ones as well, like leading her soccer coach to Christ and having $1,000 in her bank account. I think it's great that she was even willing to make crazy goals, because, really, you never know what will happen. If we, as parents are always shooting down our children's crazy dreams and ideas, never letting them try or dream, they'll never shoot for the star, they'll be afraid to try anything. Think of all the things we enjoy and take for granted on a daily basis. They were most likely the result of someone's creative and crazy idea or dream! So, Kat wanted to make a 12 layer cake. I could have said "that's nuts, there's no way you're going to make that big of a cake." But I let her go for it. She bought all the ingredients herself. SIX cake mixes, SIX boxes of cream cheese, TWO bags of Powdered sugar, and THREE sticks of butter. She invited a friend over to help. I left them to the whole process themselves. The only thing I did was cut the cake rounds in half.
This is what happens when someone turns the mixer on with too much powdered sugar in it.
The layering begins.
As it got higher I placed skewers in the side to stabilize it.
TWELVE layers!! We had just enough frosting for the layers and the top. So go ahead and let your kiddos try something that seems crazy to you. You never know that they might accomplish.

  1. What fun! And what a great mom you are for encouraging her to go for it instead of saying it was silly or something. Can I be you when I grow up? LOL! Seriously - I hope to always have an open mind when my kids want to do something I may think is silly or just nuts. I want to always encourage them!

  4. It looked like fun to make and it sure looks like it's going to be fun to eat, but how do you cut it?

  5. It was fun to make. Actually it cut very easily and didn't fall apart. I refrigerated it for a bit first which I think helped the frosting to hold the cake together easier!
