More Homeschool questions

I will eventually get around to posting some pictures and some other things I was going to post about, but I've been online researching math and Language arts stuff and wondered if anyone has tried out the Time 4 Learning online program? It looks interesting. I'm really liking the looks of the teaching textbooks. Now I just need to see what KAT thinks..shes in 6th grade but I think she could do the pre-algebra. Anyways, let me know what you think of the Time 4 learning. With Joy UNquenchable,

  3. I found your blog through your comment on Dishpan Dribble. I wanted to make a comment about math curriculum. I have used Teaching Textbook for Pre Algebra, Algebra 1 & 2, and Geometry. It is very detailed and my older daughter has done great with it. However my middle daughter did not like the Algebra 1 so much. The teacher tends to "take the scenic" route to get from point a to point b and he tends to give alot of explanation. It is a great curriculum and very easy to teach since you have all the problems explained in great detail for you. But my 9th grade daughter didn't really like it so we switched to Aleks math. It is an online math curriculum. www.akeks.com They will give you a free student assessment and you can try their program free for a month no strings attached. It has been great for her. They keep up with the student's progress and they will not allow them to go further until they have mastered the concept being taught. It is only $19.95 a month and that is unlimited use with no contract, which is cheaper than a lot of curriculum.
I just thought I would pass that long. I know alot of people don't really know about aleks.

  5. THank you for the info. on Aleks...it looks interesting and we may try the trial month to see if she likes it. She checked out the samples on teaching textbooks and liked it, so we'll see about this one.

I just have such a hard time explaining concepts at this grade level (she uses Abeka and so she is beginning to do things that I just can't remember how to do).
