Wednesday Hodgepodge

It's time for Wednesday Hodgepodge with Joyce, who blogs at
From This Side of The Pond.  Each week she'll pose some questions for us to answer. What a great way to journal life.

1. What do you love most about your country? Aside from all politics and government, I love so much about our country. I love the freedoms, the choices, the beauty and landscape, the opportunities we have. I have loved watching videos of people from other countries who have come to the US for the world cup and what they think, the things they've loved. The ranch thing is hilarious. I remember a friend who had moved here from Romania and she was overwhelmed the first time she went into a grocery store. So much to choose from.

2. Your favorite patriotic song? I will always get teary eyed and goose bumps when I hear the National Anthem. I have also always loved God Bless the USA by Lee Greenwood. There are many others that I enjoy as well. The Country genre has come out with some great ones. More than a Flag by Brandon Davis, My America by Danny Gokey, It's America by Rodney Adkins are just a few.

3. Red, white, or blue? Red is a favorite color. Stars or stripes? Stars!  Something you own besides a US flag with some combination of those colors or decorations as part of its design? I don't think I have anything. Actually I remembered I have this shirt.

4. What's one thing you want more of this summer: fun, rest, adventure, connection, quiet, or confidence? Good question. I'm not sure how I want to answer....Joyce, you only said one...haha. I am going to go with confidence. Elaborate. At first I thought "I can't choose just one." But then I realized that most of those I already have during summer. I went between connection and confidence. I chose confidence because I know it's something I lack in some key areas, one being making connections (especially meeting new people). Also in the area of just being confident in myself. A few examples. I love taking photos, but when I go out and about, sometimes I feel awkward and not confident and like I'm taking up space when I'm out taking pictures of whatever, I know I don't carry myself confidently. The other area would be my blog IG page. I haven't used it often but decided I was going to start using it for my book reading, etc...however, I haven't been super confident to put myself on camera, talking about book, making a recipe, etc. Sometimes I think it would be easier if only people I didn't know followed me.

5. What was your ultimate, go-to summer activity when you were a kid? Riding bikes and playing outside games with the neighborhood kids. We did this every day!  Do you still do any version of that today? Not on a regular basis, but I do like to go on bike rides, and from time to time we will go outside and play bocce ball or other games. A few times we've gone outside and played cards at the picnic table. If you answered yes, does participating in this activity as an adult make you feel like a kid?  Maybe the bike riding, but otherwise, not really.

6. Insert your own random thought here. You guys, we had a bat in the house last Sunday. We all hate bats. I get they eat the bugs, etc...OUTSIDE. But inside? Ugghh. It was in our youngest daughters room. That seems to be where they always end up. We couldn't get it out that night (we were just too tired and it wasn't cooperating), so we closed up everything and she slept downstairs (where she has slept all this week). The next morning I went up and eventually found it, under a pillow. I captured it between the pillow and a container and brought it outside. We have a guy coming out today to see if they can find any entry points. We don't have an old house so I just don't know how they are getting in, except someone not shutting a door fast enough at night.

With Joy Unquenchable,
Kirstin

  1. EEEK ... bats. I grew up in an old farm house. We had bats in the house. Oh the memories. My sister and I would scream for my dad to save the night and get the bat out of our room.
Good luck with finding how they are getting in.

I too chose the National Anthem, I cry each and every time.
