What Do You Call It?
It's time again for Tuesday 4 hosted by Anne from Cottage by the sea.

Different sections of the USA have different words and customs they use. Let's talk about them. I love how every region has their way of saying things. My parents are both from northern Ohio. We moved to Washington when I was in 4th grade so I've lived here longer than Ohio. Sometimes I wonder if the "traditional/regional" terms for things are used depending on if someone has grown up in a region or lived there for a long enough time. I'm going with what I, myself, use as far as these terms go and what I hear more often.
1. In New Jersey you put your groceries in a paper bag or plastic bag. In Athens, Ohio where I went to university, you put them in a paper sack. Is it bag, sack or something else where you live? It is a bag here in Washington State. I'm trying to think of how people have said it when I visit family in Ohio. I have gotten much better about bringing my reusable bags to the store. I don't like the thick plastic ones they have and so often the paper bags rip.
2. Though no one seems to wear them anymore, NJ says Stockings. Athens, Ohio used to call them "hose" and in Britain they are tights. What about where you live? We have always called them nylons or panty hose. When my girls were little we called them tights..If they were thick, then I'd call them tights, even for myself. The only time I use "stocking" is when referring to the Christmas stockings...hung with care of course.
3. Soda, Pop, Coke? Pop. The map says our region in Washington calls it soda, but I have never used that.

Hero, sub, grinder, hoagie? Sub or hoagie. Usually when I use sub, I'm referring to the sandwich, and I think when I say hoagie, I'm thinking strictly of a "sausage on a hoagie roll".
