Tuesday Four.....Summertime

Summertime

It's time again for Tuesday 4 hosted by Anne from Cottage by the sea.

Published each week in memory of Toni Taddeo, it's original author. We keep Toni Taddeo's original idea alive here with 4 questions each week to get you blogging, visiting and  learning about yourself and other bloggers. The more people join in, the merrier and the better it gets. We are always looking for topics, subjects and ideas so feel free to chime in if you have idea.

Summer time is upon us.

1. What special memories do you have about summer when you were younger? I remember we played outside all the time. We rode bikes everywhere (there were woods across the street with so many trails, and a creek). We played games til we had to come inside. In H.S. we'd often go to youth group get togethers or swimming at my friends house. We sometimes played in the river, or floated down it in inner tubes. My family didn't do many vacations. Sometimes we'd go camping in eastern Washington but not often.

2. What is the highest temperature you've experienced in summer? We live in the SW part of Washington state so our summer temps are pretty mild, however, in 2021 there were record highs and we reached 114 one of the days. We had to close work because it was just too hot and our AC unit wasn't installed yet. The siding on a lot of houses started buckling...it was crazy. It's rare we get in the 90's. When I've visited family in Florida and Ohio, it's been hot, but it's more the humidity that gets me then. What about so far this summer? August will be our warmest month, though in July we've seen some upper 80's and one or two 90 degree days. How do you weather the heat or humidity? My happy place is the mid 70's. Can we just stay there? I do not like humidity. I always run hot anyways so it can be a struggle. In the summer it is rare to see me in pants. I live in shorts and tank tops.

3. What's been on your menu so far this summer? Well, my hubby has had to work out of town every week for either 4 or 5 of the weekdays so I haven't cooked much. We have had steak quite a few times, and I like to enjoy it the next day on salad. I did make homemade baked beans the other day. We don't have a grill at the moment so everything is still cooked inside. Now, if my daughter has a fire in the fire pit I will for sure eat a hot dog and a s'more. Speaking of S'mores, I made a skillet s'more dip and I honestly think it's so much better. All you do is put chocolate chips and mini marshmallows in a cast iron skillet (I buttered mine), and either put it over a grill or fire, or in the oven. Then dip your graham crackers in it....SO GOOD.

4.  What is on your reading list this summer... anything to recommend to us? I don't necessarily have a summer reading list...I don't even have a list..haha. I just look through my bookshelves or my kindle and read what catches my attention. Otherwise I'm reading one of my book club books. Now, I will recommend a few books: The Jane Austen Society by Natalie Jenner, The Unselected Journals of Emma M. Lion by Beth Brower (great to listen to), This Book Made Me Think of You by Libby Page, Love and Saffron by Kim Fay was great to listen to. Of course I've read a lot of cozy mysteries.

What's on your TV this summer. I'm not much of a TV watcher, but World Cup games have been on the TV, and I've also been watching a bunch of "cozy mystery" type shows. Garage Sale Mysteries, Aurora Teagarden Mysteries. I just love them.

Any music you're liking this summer? I haven't listened to much music. I've been listening to audiobooks mostly. But when I'm listening to music, it's either what the grandkids want to listen to, or my usual Spotify playlist.

With Joy Unquenchable,
Kirstin

  1. I am considering This Book Made Me Think of You. I will put in on my tbr so I do not forget. #1- that was me and my neighbor. How did we not get too hot. We went in when the streetlight came on. I would take a bath, go to bed and wake up and do it all over again. We loved riding bikes, climbing trees and playing in the woods. So much fun. Loved your answers! Have a nice week.
