Wednesday Hodgepodge
1. Egg on your face, putting all your eggs in one basket, a good egg, walk on eggshells, nest egg, or a tough egg to crack...which eggy idiom currently applies to your life in some way? Explain Hmmm...I'm going with egg on your face. Now I looked this up and it can mean several things, including looking foolish, being embarrassed, or looking stupid for something you've done. Last Saturday, my hubby, youngest daughter and I went to eat at a local restaurant. Sometimes I get in a zone and I don't always pay attention to things or people around me. We were being led to our table, I had just seen a couple I knew because they have a mailbox where I work, they said hi, I said, hi, and then I hear "oh hey "insert our last name"...I look up to see a group of 4 people walking towards us and between our table where we're walking to and the side of the building...I was caught off guard and didn't immediately recognize them. I then recognized the daughter and her dad, but the mom had a hat on and so I couldn't see her face right away..I said something like "oh my gosh"...she says "you didn't recognize me did you" (not in a bad way), I said something like "no, not with your hat on, I never see you with a hat on" (it had been awhile since I'd seen her anyways), "oh I had breast cancer". I said I was sorry (which seemed cliche)....she then said I hadn't recognized her one time when she came into where I work....I don't even remember. I told her I was sorry I just get in a zone sometimes and if I'm helping someone else I don't always pay attention. I felt like I muddled my way through that conversation and it was a mess. I was a bit embarrassed, not to mention they were trying to leave, we were trying to be seated. Sheesh!
2. April 7th is National Beer Day...are you a beer drinker? No I don't like to drink beer, though I do like the smell of it, sometimes, and I do think hops are a pretty plant. If so do you have a favorite? Beer battered fish, beer bread, beer can chicken, beer brats...which one sounds good to you? beer battered fish, and beer bread please. I do like those. Have you made any of these? I have had beer battered fish and beer bread. I don't think I've had beer brats, though I like brats. I have made beer bread once with a mix and it turned out pretty good.
3. Do you have siblings? I have one sister. What's the best thing about being your sibling? Unfortunately we aren't close. We are 5 years apart. I'm older, and we just have never had a close relationship. After my mom passed away and over the last I don't even know how many years, the distance just kept growing. We chat on IG or FB here and there and I send cards and sometimes gifts, but it's been a struggle to mend and heal the relationship. I pray it can be healed and mended but I can only do so much. I actually just listened to a Mel Robbins Podcast titled "You'll never see your family the same again". It was very interesting. If you don't have siblings, what would you say are the pros and cons of being an only child?
4. How do you feel about floral scents in products? Not really. I try to avoid things that have any artificial fragrances as much as possible. Even before I switched I didn't I care for floral scents because they can be so overpowering. Do you have a favorite? I do love floral scents out in nature though. Jasmine, lilacs, lily of the valley. My mom had a daphne adora shrub and the scent was so yummy.
5. What's one thing in your home that begins with the letter G that you would say is a keeper, something you'll hold on to? Tell us why. I can't think of a thing. I peeked at a few of yours. Joyce gave me an idea, and I'm sure I'll think of more after I post this, that always seems to happen. I'm going with Grandkids drawings, and also a Grandmother tell me book that my grandma (and one from mom) filled out years ago. The why's are just that they are special to me.
6. Insert your own random thought here. We had a good Easter. We ended up hosting it at our house (normally my MIL hosts it). It has been awhile since I've hosted, I had quite the list going for what I was making, when I should prep it, and what needed to get into the oven when, etc. Phew. It all turned out great, and it was actually perfect to have it up at our house since we have a large yard and the weather was beautiful, so we all ate and hung out on the patio and yard. We did an Easter Egg hunt for the kiddos, and just enjoyed everyone.
My hubby left later in the afternoon for Seattle for a few nights for work. He doesn't go away often so on one hand, I kind of like having the house mostly to myself, I don't have to make dinner if I don't want to, etc...but I also don't sleep great, at least the first night he's gone. I already have a hard time falling asleep and it's more-so when he leaves. He's back now, though he may have to make that trip a bit more often in the next few months.
Our weather is finally getting warmer....YAY!! It will be in the upper 60's-mid 70's the next few days, then rain again, but then hopefully warm up again.
Have a great week. Oh, I wanted to share one last photo...I went to our local wildlife refuge yesterday and got some great pics, but this one cracked me up.. He looks like he's yelling at me.

Hi,
ReplyDeleteI am with you for #4. I too took out artificial fragrance in our home.
I understand your situation with your sister. We have estrangement in our family. As the years pass, the distance grows.
I am happy to hear you had a good Easter. We did too, it was a blessing to have our boys home.
xo
Love the yelling bird shot, great capture! It was such a beautiful Easter day. Glad it all worked out being at your home this year. Sorry about the relationship challenges with your sister. That is tough. Yikes about the restaurant encounter! Hope you are having a good week!
ReplyDeleteHi Kirstin, I think grandkids pictures is a good one. Sounds like you had a great Easter. It is the first time we did not have an egg hunt and the grands were okay with it. They still got Easter baskets. Enjoy your nicer weather!
ReplyDeleteI love that bird photo! And I'm glad you had a good Easter!
