It's time again for Jo Tracey's BKD (Brookford Kitchen Diaries) Cookbook Club. I've followed Jo for awhile and have read several of her books, including one of her most recent which features a group of ladies who have a cookbook club. If you haven't read any of Jo's books, you should.
In the southern hemisphere they are getting ready to experience fall, and us in the northern hemisphere are coming into spring, so we are celebrating our respective seasons. I was trying to think of what to make and decided on something with ham (since we just had Easter), and asparagus, as it's something we love and a spring veggie (though we eat it year round). I LOVE quiche and decided that's what I wanted to make.
I pulled out some of my cookbooks to see if I could find a quiche recipe. The beauty of a quiche is you can put whatever you want in it. I found a recipe in one of my Magnolia Table cookbooks. I just love Joanna Gaines, her Magnolia Table show and her cookbooks. I'm not sure if I've used one of her books for our posts, but I am this month. I own two of them. As I was browsing the pages I thought "I need to make more out of these". I just get in the routine of cooking the same things (because my hubby likes to stay consistent), and I don't venture out that often. Maybe I need to make a deal with myself to cook at least one thing out of her cookbooks a month.
There are so many amazing recipes in these books.....I used this pie crust recipe and guys, it turned out so good. I don't always do great with pie crust but this one was fairly easy.
The quiche recipe was super easy. I added ham, and used whatever cheese I found in the store and that sounded good. I also love writing the date I made the recipe and any thoughts regarding it or ingredients used or substituted.
Everything was easy to follow, and the flavor was what I hoped it would be. I do think I might have went with a little more seasoning.
These cinnamon squares look amazing.
I love how beautiful the photos are and the beginning of each chapter has a story or wonderful introduction.
They also feature photos of life around their home and farm. I always love that in cookbooks. I know...some people simply want recipes, and nothing more. I love photos and feeling connected to the author and the dishes.
Here's what's coming up in the next few months. Join in if you'd like.
May 21, 2026 – Whether you call it a one-pan wonder, a tray bake or a sheet bake, this month we’re celebrating those cookbooks that bring these mid-week marvels to our tables.
June 17, 2026 – Back in March we focused on new cookbooks. This month, let’s go into our collection and find an oldie but a goodie. Maybe something you haven’t cooked from for ages, something you’ve forgotten was there.
July 16, 2026 – Go to your bookshelf, pick out the cookbook you most recently purchased (or borrowed), cook something from it and tell us about it. Too easy.
Can I just say yum!? I love how you make notes in your cookbooks... I do the same. It makes them lived in. Thanks for linking up.
ReplyDeleteA friend did that and I thought it was a great idea.
