Wednesday Hodgepodge

It's time for Wednesday Hodgepodge with Joyce, who blogs at From This Side of The Pond.  Each week she'll pose some questions for us to answer. What a great way to journal life.

1. St. Patrick's Day lands on March 17th. Do you believe in luck? Not really as far as "superstitious luck goes". I do feel like sometimes things happen that are in our favor but not explainable. I know many people who are Christians say they are "blessed" not "lucky". I used to say that a lot too and I get where it's coming from, though sometimes I think it can stem from fear of using a word deemed "unchristian". However, if we choose to give credit to God for everything good that comes our way, and our neighbor is struggling, what that communicates to them is that He must not care enough about them. Oh, boy, I could go on, but I'll stop. I'll just say that sometimes we're in the right place at the right time, or maybe we made a great choice and something worked out just right. We can choose to call it luck or a blessing, whichever. I do think that when it comes to playing some games, it's all about luck because there is no strategy involved. Are there things you do thinking they'll  bring good luck or  things you avoid because they're considered bad luck? No, not really.

2. Forest-lime-sage-mint-olive-emerald...what's your favorite shade of green?  It would depend on where I'm seeing this color. I love all shades of green. I don't really have a favorite. Lime green would be my least favorite, but depending on where I am seeing it, I may love it.

3. In Ireland the meal on this day is often a hearty beef or lamb stew served with colcannon (mashed potato mixed with cabbage and leeks). In the US corned beef and cabbage is the more typical St. Patty's Day meal. Will you/did you mark the day with one of these dishes? Baked-fried-roasted-mashed...what's your favorite way to eat a potato? I am putting a roast in the crockpot and it will have potatoes with it. The roast turned out amazing by the way.  I love corned beef, but it's not a fave in my family so I won't make it. I also love cabbage, but again not a fave of everyone elses. I love potatoes and it just depends on my mood as to which is my favorite way to eat them. I do love baked potatoes with broccoli and homemade vegan cheese sauce. Mashed potatoes are a fave as well as twice baked potatoes. Have you had baby smashed potatoes? Those are so good and crunchy.

Yesterday I went to the coffee shop and got a "lucky chai"....chai with matcha. So good!

4. What color of the rainbow best represents your personality/mood today? Tell us why. Oh man....I'm not sure. Which one goes with tired, achy, unmotivated...haha. As I'm typing this Tuesday, that's how I'm feeling. Maybe I'll change my answer on Wednesday. It's not Wednesday and I'm hoping that this day will be a great one, so I'm going to go with orange because according to Joyce's list she shared this morning, that represents joy and energy and I could use both today.

5. Which 'lucky' quote resonates with you. Elaborate.

'Luck is not something you can mention in the presence of self-made men.' E.B. White

'Diligence is the mother of good luck." Benjamin Franklin

'Luck is where opportunity meets preparation.' Seneca
This one resonates with me because, sure sometimes things just happen, I think more often it's a matter of seeing an opportunity and being prepared to take that opportunity. Sometimes that preparation is simply training yourself to always be on the lookout for an opportunity.

Lately I've been in awe of some wildlife photos I've seen people sharing and thinking "man, why don't I ever see this when I'm out?"...but then I have to be honest and say "these people probably sat in that spot watching that particular bird for awhile..they were ready, they were willing to wait". I'm sure sometimes they're at the right place at the right time, but being prepared is a HUGE part of it.

If I don't train myself to be on the lookout for things, whether it's a good deal, where to find certain things, or just to keep my eyes open, I'll miss out on many things that might be considered "lucky".

'Shallow men believe in luck. Strong men believe in cause and effect.' Ralph Waldo Emerson

6. Insert your own random thought here. Wednesdays are my day off and I have a list of things I hope to accomplish today. I'm off on Tuesdays, but I help at my grandkids co-op and I also have them after co-op til about 3 or 4 and I like to dedicate that day focused on them. Wednesdays are my day to do chores, appointments, or whatever else I want to do. Today, I'm spending it at home getting some things done...wash sheets, clean the bathroom, mop kitchen floor. Then I need to pick book choices for our next book club read and make a recipe for my BKD cookbook club which needs to post today or at least in the next few days. So if I can stay motivated I should get quite a bit done. I also do need to exercise which has been a struggle for me.

I'm also almost done with my March Pass along book club book and it's a good one. I could've kept reading last night but knew I needed to get to sleep. I'll finish for sure tonight.

With Joy Unquenchable,
Kirstin

  2. I feel the same about the colour green, it really depends where I am seeing it.
Baby smashed potatoes are so good, we have them once in a while.
I hope you are feeling better now. I hope today has gone well for you.

  3. Oh I love your answer to #1 because that sums up how I feel about luck too; I feel like so many people today focused on hard work but I truly think there are luck of the draw moments like when one of my boys got pulled into the Disney parade by a character (they could have picked anyone on either side of us-- that is luck!).
