Double Dipping: Tuesday Four and Wednesday Hodgepodge

I'm double dipping again this week....well, that's not really what this is I suppose. I'm just simply sharing both link parties in the same post, but I like the term double dipping so I'm going with it. I didn't participate last week as it was also the week to share my BKD Cookbook club post and one other and I just couldn't get them all done. I was under the weather as well, and was not highly motivated at all.

Grocery Shopping

It's time again for Tuesday 4 hosted by Anne from Cottage by the sea.

Published each week in memory of Toni Taddeo, it's original author. We keep Toni Taddeo's original idea alive here with 4 questions each week to get you blogging, visiting and  learning about yourself and other bloggers.   The more people join in, the merrier and the better it gets. We are always looking for topics, subjects and ideas so feel free to chime in if you have idea.

Here are some questions for you on the topic of shopping. Yes, let's talk about shopping. I grocery shopped yesterday and was so annoyed by some of the prices. $9.99ish for a bag of chocolate chips! Are you kidding me!!! I'm shopping around or going to hit Amazon. I'm in Washington and thanks to our lovely (not) politicians our prices for everything are ridiculous.

1. Where do you like to buy your groceries and do you buy by the day, week or month?I usually shop once a week, but sometimes need to make a run to the store for something
I forgot. I usually stick to the stores in our small town which are Grocery Outlet (like an Aldi's), Safeway and Walmart. If I go into the bigger city I'll go to Fred Meyers, or Trader Joes. We'll also go to Costco regularly and get some things there. I usually shop on the weekend and just prefer to stay in town.

2. What foods would we always find in your kitchen? There is always Milk, cheese, eggs, coconut and almond milk. I always have canned beans (in a variety), items for baking and snacks for the grandkids.

3.Do you buy anything online and if so what kinds of things are you most likely to buy there? Occasionally. I do buy liquid stevia online. I also buy most of our supplements online. If I can't find a better price for Chocolate chips I'll be buying those on Amazon. I am part of Imperfect foods and get a food order every other week.

4. Do you shop with a list on paper, on your phone or do you just shop without a list and maybe come home with things you never planned to buy? All of the above...well, except that I don't shop without a list. I rarely go into a store with nothing in mind, unless if we were on a trip and go in to see what is available and what looks good, but even on bigger vacations we have a list and a plan. I usually have a list on my phone. I use an app called ListEase. Sometimes I have a sticky note if it's a quick trip. I might also put a short list on my calendar app.

Bonus question:  What will you be cooking in the coming week? Monday I work late so I'm putting taco soup in the crockpot. I'll also make fajitas, steak, and cabbage and bratwurst. I'm not sure what else. That was as far as I got in the planning. I'm not really good at flying by the seat of my pants when it comes to meals. If I'm not sure what to do I just say everyones on their own. Recently I've done tomato soup and grilled sandwiches when I wasn't sure what to do.

It's time for Wednesday Hodgepodge with Joyce, who blogs at From This Side of The Pond.  Each week she'll pose some questions for us to answer. What a great way to journal life.

1. America celebrates turning 250 years old this year. Primary cities set to lead the celebrations on July 4th are Boston, Philadelphia, New York, and Washington D.C. Other significant locations for celebrating will be Charleston, SC and the 'historic triangle' which includes Jamestown-Willimasburg-Yorktown Virginia.

Of the cities listed how many have you seen in person? I have been to Boston, and New York. Of the cities listed which would you most like to visit this year? I wouldn't mind seeing Philadelphia or Charleston, but the Virginia ones would be fun too.  Any plans to do so? Nope. Maybe if I lived on the east coast. What's one place in America you think everyone should see? Oh man! That's a tough one. I think there are so many places. I love our PNW and there are so many stunning areas to visit. I would also say the NE states in the fall. Colorado was a real treat as well.  If you're not American what's one place in the US you'd like to see?

2. Three sounds you love to hear?
1. Children's laughter
2. Birds, frogs
3. While I don't like the damage that sometimes comes with them, I do love the sounds of wind and thunder.

3. Three sounds you hate to hear?

1. Coyote howling

2. Sirens (we hear them daily at work, and it usually means something has gone wrong).

3. Conflicting sounds...It seems the last few years I am highly annoyed by multiple noises going on at once. Music or TV going, and then someone watching something on their phone loud enough to hear.

4. February 24th is/was National Tortilla Chip Day. Are you a fan? I do like tortilla chips..they need to be nice and crispy With salsa, guacamole, queso, or just plain please? Love them all ways. With all the things, or nothing at all. Do you like nachos? Definitely like nachos With what on top? Sometimes just cheese. If in a restaurant we like the works minus onions. Sometimes if I make them at home I'll use whatever leftover things I have in the fridge. Is there anything (besides nachos) you make that calls for tortilla chips? We like to have chips with our taco soup. Other than that, I haven't made anything that uses tortilla chips in any way other than a side for dipping.

5. We March into March with next week's Hodgepodge...what's one thing on your March calendar that makes you smile? Our youngest daughter turns 27. I'm traveling to Banff with her and a friend for a few days then we'll celebrate the following weekend with family.

6. Insert your own random thought here. I think I'm finally over being sick. I had a cold at the beginning of the month and then came down with another one. The first one was more of a cough, this one was all sinus. Because of that, not much to update since  I haven't had much motivation.

I am trying to get back on track with steps and exercise. It's been so easy to slack off but I know I need to get back at it.

I will share this...I always use my instant pot for hard boiled eggs, 5 minute pressure than a 5 minute release time. Last week I tried for a soft boiled egg and it turned out good. I did 3 minutes pressure/3 minute release. It was not fully yolky but for me, just right. Next time I might try 2 minutes.

With Joy Unquenchable,
Kirstin

  1. I enjoyed your answers to Tuesday 4 questions (I didn't read your other submissions yet). Food prices certainly are out of control here too.I'm going to check into the phone app you mentioned for keeping shopping lists. Your menu for the week sounds delicious. Can I join you for dinner? 🤣
