Wednesday Hodgepodge

It's time for Wednesday Hodgepodge with Joyce, who blogs at From This Side of The Pond.  Each week she'll pose some questions for us to answer. What a great way to journal life.

1. Ice skating, skiing, sledding, snowshoeing, playing in the snow, or a snowy walk...which winter activity do you choose? Snowy Walk, though I'd like to try snowshoeing. Have you done any of these activities so far this winter? We have had no snow, so that answer is no. However, I am going to Banff in March with my youngest daughter and there should be snow so I'm sure I'll get to go for a walk and maybe try snowshoeing (we'll see). We could still get some snow here, usually it will come in February-April, so we'll see.

2. Everyone is posting pictures from ten years ago on their social media sites so let's jump on the bandwagon too. Share one photo and one thought to go with said photo from the year 2016. And maybe everyone isn't doing this, but many are and we're going to be part of the fun. I have seen people doing it but haven't jumped on, even though I love looking back, I just haven't taken the time. Looking back at the blog, I wasn't posting much in 2016, I went through a dry spell with blogging and we were still navigating some life changes that kind of shook up life as we knew it, however, we found moments to enjoy life despite everything that was going on.

I'm going to go with this photo. My youngest and I went to check out Mt. St. Helens. We had a great day out taking pictures, and I had her jump and captured this...we loved it because it looked like she was suspended in air. This started a tradition of whenever there's a spot that works, whether we're together or she's traveling with friends we'll get a photo of this. I have quite a few.

3. What's a trend you hope disappears in this new year? Dare I say divisiveness, but I'm not convinced that will happen. I don't really pay attention to trends, but a few I notice when I'm at work that kind of make me tip my head and go "okaaayyy"...the really long pointy nails, really dark interestingly shaped eyebrows, why do guys where black nail polish. Most trends I ignore because it's all personal preference. Social media post trends or other trends that promote hate, anger, causing shaming of some sort, I definitely feel should disappear

4. 'They' say there's a day for everything and January 21st proves it. National Granola Bar Day. Do you like granola bars? I do, but I don't eat them that often. How about just regular granola? Again, yes, but don't eat it often. Do you like bars of other kinds? Yes, I do like different types of bars!

5.  A frozen lake, a trickling stream, a raging river, or a deep well...which one describes something about your life right now? Hmmmm...I'm going with trickling stream.  Elaborate as much or as little as you like. I'm working on easing into some things this year gently and slowly. No resolutions (which I don't often do), no word of the year, just easing into it.

6. Insert your own random thought here. My daughter and son in law will be moving into their new home in the next week. So exciting for them. It will be bittersweet for all of us. It has been so nice to have them here, see them every day for the last 7 months. Has it been perfect, no, but it's been wonderful. My granddaughter said to my daughter the other day "mom, we're still going to come visit right? You won't forget?" It was so cute....I'm sure I messed up the wording but that was the gist of it. I watch them every Tuesday...I, at least see them once a week, and now they're in the same town, and they opened their mailbox where I work, and there's face time....we'll see them.

I'll leave it here. I'm fighting a cold and need to get a few things accomplished today so I'm going to get busy.

With Joy Unquenchable,
Kirstin

  1. I've never tried snowshoeing but want to. We've had no snow here either.
That is a fab photo from 2016! It does look like she is just up in the air.
I think it's a teenage/young adult thing. My youngest loves really long, pointy nails and I don't understand how she can function. lol
Good luck to your daughter and son in law in their new home and I hope you feel better soon.

  3. That is a great photo you captured. One of our nephews takes those kind of photos, too. What a sweet thing for your granddaughter to say. Hope the move goes well.

    1. Thank you. It was fun. Well, today she came over and said "we're living at our house now and we are never coming here again"...she then clarified that she would visit but not live here...haha.

  4. That picture of your youngest is great! I enjoyed the rest of your post. Our grands have been staying with us off and on for school and they are older in high school and more independent. I miss when they spent more time with us. But life goes on and they move on. But overall, we are all close, right?

    1. Thank you. I know the seasons of life change...I miss the days when I could spend so much time with my girls, now they're older and have their lives and I have to find ways to fit in with their adult lives.

  5. Hi, I love the photo.
I am going to try and figure out how to take photo's like that. My husband takes fun ones of me, making me look way taller. Hee Hee.
I appreciated your answer to #3.

    1. Thank you. When I take the photo, I have to get at the right angle, and sometimes have to crop a bit of the bottom, but not much.

  6. Enjoy your walk in the snow. That's a great picture at Mt. St. Helen. What a nice tradition you started. I haven't even seen the dark eyebrows. I don't get out much. I definitely don't like the nails. Yes, the trickling spring sounds pperfect. Glad they will still be nearby. Feel better soon.

  7. Banff will be wonderful! Speaking of great photos, I'm sure you'll get a ton there :). The pic from 2016 is so good! I'm sure the past seven months have been full of a variety of emotions and thoughts but the best ones will be what everyone remembers... it sounds like your granddaughter has soaked up many moments :). Have a great Sunday!
