Tuesday Four....Sandwiches

Sandwich Time

It's time again for Tuesday 4 hosted by Anne from Cottage by the sea.

Published each week in memory of Toni Taddeo, it's original author. We keep Toni Taddeo's original idea alive here with 4 questions each week to get you blogging, visiting and  learning about yourself and other bloggers.   The more people join in, the merrier and the better it gets. Sandwiches are a lunch time favorite.

In the 1930s two favorite sandwiches were ham, pickles and mustard and tuna with rice, capers, pepper and paprika.  I think it probably needed mayo! First off, wait? Tuna with rice? Never heard of that especially on a sandwich, though it was 1930's soooo who knows.

Sandwiches can be a  simple peanut butter and jelly or a classy Monte Cristo.

1. What is your favorite sandwich and how do you make it? I don't have a favorite. I struggle with "favorites" because there are so many options for things and it just depends on my mood and what sounds good. I do love a salami sandwich on soft bread (though now I look for a healthier version), with mayo, a tad of brown mustard, cheese, lettuce and pickles. I also love a really good grilled cheese, sometimes with a few varieties of cheese, maybe meat, but maybe not..also a good tuna melt.

I love a good fish sandwich. When we were in the NE states, we stopped at a local place on the river and had this HUGE fish sandwich...pretty sure it was the entire half of a fish. It was so good...oh, I also had a lobster roll.

Homemade reubens are a favorite here as well.

Our local corner store has some amazing grilled sandwiches on local sourdough bread that are so good. One of my faves has huckleberry habanero jelly, cream cheese, ham and lettuce...so good. They also have a really good italian mayo that I love on sandwiches.

One sandwich I NEVER liked was bologna. I only liked bologna if it was fried in a pan. I didn't like the smell, texture or flavor otherwise.

2.  What is the best bread for making toast?  I think any bread can be good for toast, because, after all, it's going to be toasted so it doesn't matter if it's a drier bread or soft bread. I love multi grain or sourdough.  How about for making sandwiches? I do like sourdough, but also a multi grain is great too...I have always been one who loves PB & J on white bread, but if I do that, I try to find a healthier version of white bread.

3.  If you go out to eat for lunch are you more likely to stay with a safe choice or be more adventurous?
I think I'm fairly adventurous, though I hate wasting food and money, so I will be adventurous as long as I like the ingredients.

One year I found a recipe for a sandwich with cucumbers, sprouts, cream cheese, and that was amazing.  I also have other sandwiches I've tried on the blog. Just click the link on blog, and scroll to the bottom to find the sandwiches category.

4. Dagwood, hoagie, submarine, Po boy, grinder. Whatever they are called where you are, do you like them and if so what do you want on it?  We call them sub sandwiches here in the PNW, at least I do...I will also call them a hoagie. I do like them, though I can usually only eat half of one. I don't have a specific sandwich that I like. It depends on what's on the menu.

I had this shrimp Po-boy at a local Portland, Oregon restaurant. It was HUGE, but really good.

Also when we were in Maine, I just had to have a Lobster Roll...it didn't dissapoint.
