Wednesday Hodgepodge: A Sense of Adventure

It's time for Wednesday Hodgepodge with Joyce, who blogs at From This Side of The Pond.  Each week she'll pose some questions for us to answer. What a great way to journal life.

1. What does adventure mean to you? Joyce shared what adventure means. I think adventure can just mean a sense of doing something out of the norm. Going on an adventure can be going to some new thrift stores or it can mean going to a new location for a vacation. It could be hiking new trails. I love to say to my grandkids, "let's go on an adventure". Maybe it's just a walk. So I would say I love adventures...just not the typical definition of the word.

For me, an adventure often involves me with my camera! This one involved me climbing over some logs that were wet and I fell on my behind! Ouch.

Our Europe trip in 2019 was an adventure. Honestly wherever we go is an adventure.

2.  What are your thoughts on tipping? I am pro tipping for the most part. What businesses or service providers do you regularly tip? I will tip at all restaurants and coffee shops unless it's something that is self serve. Thinking about it, I suppose I don't typically tip at fast food places. Do you resent being asked if you'd like to add a tip? No because I know on the credit machines they can't bypass that option and since my girls both work in the coffee industry, they don't mind when people say no. I usually tip in cash rather than on the card. What about when a suggested amount is presented? I prefer to choose what I tip and it's usually more than the suggested amount. It often depends on the service received.

3. I scream you scream we all scream for ice cream...do we? Is ice cream a favorite treat at your house? There are those in the family who LOVE ice cream. I do enjoy it, but it depends on my mood.  What's your favorite flavor? cookies and cream, mint chocolate chip, pecan praline, chocolate peanut butter.,,, Regular, soft serve, gelato, sherbet, or some sort of non-dairy version of ice cream...what's your pleasure? I enjoy all of them in some form or fashion. Sherbet would be my least favorite, and if it's non dairy, it can't taste like coconut.

4. What's your 'back in my day, we____________________ ' story or saying? Hmmm...I don't use this phrase often but perhaps....we took photos and then had to wait to see that all but one were terrible. or if we missed an episode of a show it was gone. We called the radio station to request a song and then waited with our tape recorder to make our mixed tape.

5. Somehow this is our last Hodgepodge in the month of June. Next week's Hodgepodge lands in July. Wow. Sum up your June using three adjectives.

Wet--we had quite a few wet days. I'm not sure if it was more than normal for June, but it was more than I would have cared for.

Fun--we're having a great time having our oldest daughter, son in law and grandkids on the property while they wait to get their manufactured home on their land. My husband just chuckles at me and says "you're really enjoying this aren't you?"...why yes, yes I am.

contemplative--While I was in Ohio I really savored the time I was with my aunts. I didn't feel a need to do a lot of things. I really enjoyed spending time looking through old photos and a few journals. Those things are so important to me and it just always makes me think about family.

6. Insert your own random thought here. As I type this I'm watching a zoom write chat with some of my favorite cozy mystery authors. So fun. Earlier today I went to the eye doctor this morning and they dilated my eyes, so for most of the morning my eyes were very sensitive. I do need to get new glasses as my prescription has changed, not by much. I'm going to check Costco and see if their prices are better than the eye doctors office, though theirs weren't too bad with insurance. Hoping to make that decision ASAP.

My oldest daughter and her family have been gone for the week in Idaho for the Northwest FCA camp. FCA is Fellowship of Christian Athletes. My SIL helps with the motocross. Our youngest daughter has been house sitting and our buddy who lives with us has been gone except to sleep so I've basically felt like we are empty nesters.

It's hard to believe that next week we are in July! Holy smokes! See you then!

With Joy Unquenchable,
Kirstin

  2. I love your answer to adventure!! My husband knows when I need it - he will say "grab your camera and lets go find some backroads" :) And I was that girl that would wait for her song to come on and record it!

  3. Oh my goodness, I do remember the days we called into the radio station so we could hear our song!
I love a great adventure as well. We just got back from a 2,400-mile road trip! We checked off two bucket list items!
Enjoy your family time with your daughter and son in law. How wonderful!
    Happy Summer!

  4. OH yes those back in my day memories are so spot on. I hated when I thought I had the perfect shot... only to find out weeks later it was blurry or at the very end of the film and hit had a black line running down the side, etc.

  5. Oh yes, calling the radio station to request songs and recording them on a tape player!! Good times, good times. LOL Making those mix tapes was so fun. I'm late coming round to visit - hope you're having a great week!
