Tuesday Four: Do You Have the Travel Bug
Travel Bug
It's time again for Tuesday 4 hosted by Anne from Cottage by the sea.
Published each week in memory of Toni Taddeo, it's original author. We keep Toni Taddeo's original idea alive here with 4 questions each week to get you blogging, visiting and learning about yourself and other bloggers. The more people join in, the merrier and the better it gets. We are always looking for topics, subjects and ideas so feel free to chime in if you have idea.
I think finding reasons to blog and stay in touch with others, or to meet new bloggers is very important. Blogging also provides you with a record of your thoughts and ideas to leave for your family. It's a journal of sorts really that you share with others.
I agree with this sentiment so much. I love finding new people, learning new things, and it is a sort of journal for me.
Summer is June 21st and people usually take advantage of the warm weather to take a trip or vacation or day trips to visit, shop or for recreation.
So could we talk about travel? Yes, let's do!
1. What are the most memorable destinations you've visited, and what made them stand out? (this could include places like museums, art galleries, etc. not only a vacation site.) Oh man! We've done a lot of traveling especially in the last 5+ years, BUT I will say one of our most memorable destinations is closer to home, in Central Oregon. For our honeymoon, we traveled to Sunriver, Oregon and the Bend/Sunriver area became a favorite. So much so that we returned almost every year until about 2014 and then life got a bit crazier and we've only been back a handful of times since...but not because we haven't wanted to. It's a 4+ hour drive and it's been harder to get the family on board with going because, well, their lives are busy...how dare they have busy lives...haha! It is just an amazing place to visit and we often said that we could live in that area, or own a home there for rental, however, now it's so expensive, that's out of the question.
2. Which hidden gem locations have you explored that you'd recommend to others ? Kelley's Island, Ohio is a wonderful place to visit. My aunt and uncle own a vineyard and wine tasting room there and I visit every summer. Seabrook, Washington is another great little beach community. We absolutely LOVED our 10 day trip through the NE States and I recommend taking the back roads. Stay off major highways as much as possible. The things you see on the back roads are worth the extra time it might take. We also loved our time up in British Columbia on Vancouver Island, and our time in the Olympic Peninsula. Hood River, Oregon is another favorite place that we visit at least once a year.
3. What’s the most unique cultural experience you’ve had while traveling ? I did love our trip to Italy and Switzerland in 2019. We traveled throughout areas of Switzerland and in Venice and Como and surrounding towns. I loved trying new things and just experiencing the culture. I would love to travel to the less "touristy" areas to truly experience the culture, especially in Italy. I haven't traveled to many other countries. I've been to Mexico a few times, once to a resort and the other on a mission trip but I don't remember truly experiencing the culture there.
4.What mode of transportation is your favorite for a long trip? I love when we are able to rent a car. It is fun to have the leisure of coming and going without worrying about having to be somewhere to catch a bus or train. How about a short trip? The same, unless it's somewhere I can walk around easy enough, or a resort. When I visit my aunts I don't rent a car, though this last trip I thought it might be nice to rent one for a few days so I could visit some other areas, but I also know I could borrow one of their cars if I needed to. When we went to New York in 2017, even though we were gone for 6 days we walked and took the busses or subway everywhere. I was NOT going to drive there.

A very interesting post and wonderful photos of your travels :) I quite enjoy train travel as well but we don't have many where I am. Have a great week.
ReplyDeleteI enjoyed your answers and your photos. I'd love to travel to Italy one day and would especially like to see Venice.
ReplyDeleteGreat photos of your travels! I have been to Kelly’s Island before. When I lived in Cleveland, Ohio we would go up to the islands every summer.
ReplyDeleteWe enjoy traveling. We just got back from a road trip and did two of my bucket list items! I posted about it!
Hope you are staying cool. It’s HOT here in Pennsylvania!
I seem to always have the travel bug! I love all your photos and I too am a back road traveler. I know it takes longer but I just love to look and see and highways get so boring.
