Wednesday Hodgepodge

It's time for Wednesday Hodgepodge with Joyce, who blogs at From This Side of The Pond.  Each week she'll pose some questions for us to answer. What a great way to journal life.

1. No foolin'! April is here. What's one fun thing on your April calendar? There is not much on the April calendar. The 28th, hubby and I are heading to the Tampa, Fl area for a work conference for him and spending a few days prior just for us..that's still in April, so I'll say that. I'm hoping for some nice days to take the grandkids to parks, perhaps going to the local wildlife refuge to take some pics.

2. It's often said, 'A fool and his money are soon parted'...what's the last thing you wasted money on? We are pretty frugal and budget conscience. We really try to think through what we spend our money on. A few things we've bought in our marriage that we probably could've done without were the huge set of encyclopedias when we first got married. Anyone else? We have a rowing machine that, while we use it from time to time, it does not get the use it should.

3.  April 2nd is National DIY day. Are you a do-it yourself kind of person or maybe you're married to one? I do like DIY  when possible, but time is precious and it really just depends. However, we did literally build our house so yes you could say we are DIY savvy. If so, what's the last thing you DIY-ed. If you're not a DIY-er what's the most recent job you had to hire someone to complete? Hmmm...what have I DIY'd recently? I don't really know off the top of my head. I've done crafts with the kids.

4. Do you eat lamb? I do eat lamb, but not often. If so do you have a favorite dish that calls for lamb?  I don't think I have a favorite dish. Lamb chops are yummy, I've also made a lamb stew that was really good.

5. Do you fit a stereotype in some way? Explain. Well, I suppose it would depend what stereotype we're talking about. If we're talking about women in their 50's and beyond doing whatever they can to stay "young looking", then I probably don't. I decided to stop fighting the gray and let it grow out. I wear what I like and what is comfortable. I do try and take care of my skin, but NOT in an effort to "fight" aging.

If the stereotype is that we refuse to be up to date with technology, I don't fit it.
If it is that we like to stay home more, go to bed early, yep, I fit that one.

Sometimes I feel like I'm fitting the perimenopause stereotype...but I want to fight that.

I don't like stereotypes. I just want to do life as me...I like what I like. Whether clothing, music, etc...I don't let "age" dictate those things. This certainly doesn't mean I'm going to go and try and dress like a teenager, but if I like something and it looks good, then I'll get it.

6. Insert your own random thought here. I'm working to finish up this post and feel like I've hit a wall. I might need to go for another walk in between rain showers. I've accomplished a good amount today, and mostly feel good about how the day has gone, but just feeling tired and a bit sluggish. I'm looking forward to nicer days when I can be outside more and even take some early morning walks. We live on a private road and there are no street lights so it is pretty dark. No thanks. Annnd I just looked out the window and it's raining, so no walk for me. I'll jump on the rebounder later if I feel like it. I think I'll end this post here and go take a shower, wash my hair and maybe that will refresh me.

This is one of the roads we walk on. Our road is off of this one, so I'll usually walk from my house, up this way, then back, past my house to the end of our road. Sometimes if I feel ambitious I'll walk down the hill that this road is part of. We have to drive up the hill to get to our house. Anyways....it can be a pretty decent walk if you want it to be.

With Joy Unquenchable,
Kirstin

  1. I hope you have a fabulous time in Tampa! We built our house too and still do most of the projects ourselves though sometimes I wish we were a little less DIY (then the projects would at least be completed faster).

  2. I enjoyed this post. I never really thought about whether or not I was a stereotype, and then it dawned on me that at age 71, I am not a grandmother and never will be. Anyway, people assume that I am because of my white hair. LOL I am a Great Great Auntie, though...but that doesn't really count.

    1. I remember one day at work a few people wished us ladies "happy mothers day"...now at the time those of us working were mothers, but I thought of the one gal who is my age 56 and never had children..it's interesting how we assume people of a certain age are mothers.

  7. I agree with #5. I am not fond of stereotypes. And as I get older. I just want to only do me as well.
As for lamb, I only like Lamb Chops. The lollipop kind. And I only eat them if I can get them at a restaurant. My honey does not like lamb chops.
I want to thank you for stopping by my blog. I have your blog bookmarked on my iPad so I hope to stop by.
    Happy April! šŸŒøšŸŒ·
