Wednesday Hodgepodge

It's time for Wednesday Hodgepodge with Joyce, who blogs at From This Side of The Pond.  Each week she'll pose some questions for us to answer. What a great way to journal life.

1. I write the Hodgepodge questions so they'll post on Sunday, which sometimes throws me off in terms of what day it is. St. Patrick's Day will be celebrated on Monday, March 17th. Did you mark the day in some way? Wear green? Make a special meal? Watch or participate in a parade? I did wear green. I wore green earrings, I have green in my glasses AND when all else fails, I have green eyes. I made corned beef and cabbage Tuesday night. I work late on Mondays and there just wasn't time to focus on that.

2. Do you think luck plays a part in your life? Explain. I don't think I've often used the word "luck" or "lucky". To be honest when I became a christian everyone discouraged using the word luck or lucky and I think that influenced my use or lack of my use of the word. It was almost as if you had to give God credit for EVERYTHING, well, everything could, that would otherwise be chalked up to luck or coincidence. It wasn't okay for things to happen by chance or with no known reason. I think I've since changed my perspective somewhat. Sometimes people use those words so flippantly "well, aren't they lucky"....no, maybe they worked hard, maybe they studied hard, etc. I'm rambling I know and I don't fully know where I'm going with this train of thought so I'll stop at the station now.

3. Of the 15 green foods listed, which one is your favorite and how do you like it prepared? Any on the list that are a hard no for you? In general do you like fruits and veggies? As a kid did you eat them willingly or did you hide peas in your napkin hoping your momma wouldn't see? I love or like all of these except green peas. I will eat them in something if there isn't a large amount and I'll eat them raw, fresh out of a pod, but I DO NOT like cooked peas as a side dish. Never have.

Asparagus, avocado, broccoli, celery, cucumber, grape, green bean, kale, kiwi, lettuce, lime,
pear, peas, pistachios, spinach

4. What's something that makes you 'turn green'? (with envy or with illness... whichever way you want to run with it) Other than green peas as a side dish..haha. I might turn green with envy looking at some peoples yards and gardens. I sometimes feel a little green with envy at some sibling relationships or women who have super close friendships and go on girl trips, etc.

5. Did you spend a lot of time outdoors as a child? Yes I did. Doing what? We spent alot of time playing in the woods across the street from our house. There were a lot of trails and we'd run and ride our bikes, build forts, play in the creek. We'd also go down to the river, play at friends houses, ride our bike all around our area. Do you spend a lot of time outdoors now? Not as much as I'd like. Doing what? If I'm outside it's usually working in the yard, going on a walk or a hike, playing outside with grandkiddos.

6. Insert your own random thought here. Today is the first day of spring and it's gray and wet outside. Typical for the PNW. I have some bulbs that need to be planted, and I need to get to a nursery to get some other plants. None of which I like to do in the rain, so I'll wait for a dry day.

I'm a day late with this so I'll leave it at that! Happy Spring.

With Joy Unquenchable,
Kirstin

  1. Hi Kirsten! I'm one who can be a bit envious of a beautiful garden or well kept yard. No green thumb here. Thanks for the daffodils. They are such a happy flower. Have you ventured to Mt. Vernon to see the fields of daffodils? Happy Spring to you!

  2. We love rain this time of year as it helps bring down the pollen. My mom has always had such a green thumb, and my younger sister is the same but it seems to have skipped me. My hubs has a green thumb though and enjoys working in the yard so that works. Our daffodils are just about through blooming but my azaleas are getting ready to burst and I love seeing that. Hope you're having a nice weekend!

  3. Those daffodils are pretty! We are a bit opposite with regard to vegetables- peas are one of the few vegetables that I like. I hope to plant some pea seeds soon and have my very own to eat in the backyard :). I am with you on question five (minus playing with grandkids outside since I don't have any, hehe!).
