Wednesday Hodgepodge

It's time for Wednesday Hodgepodge with Joyce, who blogs at From This Side of The Pond.  Each week she'll pose some questions for us to answer. What a great way to journal life.

1. At the end of every year (or at least since the mid-1970's) Lake Superior State University posts a list of words they think should be banished from the Queen's English for misuse, overuse, and/or general uselessness. You can read more about the decision making process here, but this year's list includes-

cringe, game changer, era, dropped, IFKYK (If you know you know),
sorry not sorry, skibidi, 100%, utilize, and period.

Which of these words/phrases do you use regularly or even just every now and then? Some of those are interesting..Not sure why utilize and period would be on there. I don't think I use any of them. I joke now and then with the sorry not sorry, but don't really use it. How many did you have to look up? I had to look up skibidi. Which of these words would you most like to see banished from everyday speech and why? Probably skibidi...it just doesn't make a lot of sense.  Is there a word/phrase not on the list you'd like to add? If so do share, then tell us why.

2. Your favorite soup? I love clam chowder and I also love chicken soup with dumplings. Do you make this one yourself or is it from a can? I don't do soup in a can. I prefer to make both of these homemade.

3. How do you feel about winter? Well, it really depends...here in my area of the PNW "winter" is 98% wet, rainy and gloomy. The other 2% is some clear, cold days and maybe some snow, usually no more than twice and almost always between January and March, though we've had it in April a time or two. I don't like the dreariness, but I love the clear, crisp days (I washed my car this week) and when it snows, it's stunning. What's one winter activity you look forward to? Walking in the snow, being cozy inside with a book and a fire. I would love to snowshoe. Ooops, that was more than one!

Different spots in our yard above...and below our gas fireplace. The name of it is "Tree of life" which is why we bought it.

4. The Pantone color of the year for 2025 is mocha mousse (sample pictured here). What say you? The website describes it as 'a warming, brown hue imbued with richness. It nourishes us with its suggestion of the delectable qualities of chocolate and coffee, answering our desire for comfort'. Is this a color I might find in your home or wardrobe? It might be in my wardrobe. I like the color and think I could pull it off. Is it one you might add in some big or small way in the year ahead? Probably not in a big way, but maybe I'd add a clothing item with it or a home accent piece.

In a similar, but not really vein...if I were to offer you a choice right now of either a cup of mocha or a cup of mousse which would you say yes to? Proably mocha. I like mousse okay, but it's not a fave...and I'd probably choose a white mocha...haha.

5. Which of the following winter related idioms can best be applied to your life in some way right now? Choose one, then tell us why you chose it.

snowed under, on thin ice, tip of the iceberg, chill out, break the ice, snowball effect, not a snowball's chance in hell, get cold feet, the cold shoulder

Hmmm...I'm really not sure. I guess I'll go with chill out. I am hoping to chill out a bit more in January. December was so busy. I am wanting a slower month!

6. Insert your own random thought here. I don't think I'll add much. It's been a busy two days and I'm a bit tired. I have been thinking about and praying for all those affected by the wildfires in California! I have several friends living not too far from there and one cousin. They are all safe and probably will be, but they all know people who have been affected by them.

With Joy Unquenchable,
Kirstin

  2. The fires are heartbreaking. And maddening too in that so things have been mismanaged by those in charge that have contributed to the disaster. I have been keeping it pretty chill this month as we have the grandkids coming in another week and it will be anything but chill lol. Fun, but not chill! Have a great day!

  3. Your pictures are stunning! Freshly fallen snow is beautiful. I also love being inside and all cozy with a book near the fireplace on cold days. We're supposed to get snow again tomorrow so I see a fire and reading in my future!
