Wednesday Hodgepodge

It's time for Wednesday Hodgepodge with Joyce, who blogs at From This Side of The Pond.  Each week she'll pose some questions for us to answer. What a great way to journal life.

1. What are your current priorities in this season of life? Right at this minute, trying to find the envelope that has our new credit cards in them....but also I feel like our priorities are getting money saved for future, finishing some things on our house, finding a way to bring in extra income. For me personally, my priorities are spending time with family whenever possible, learning to keep enjoying simple things in life, prioritizing my health and wellness in all areas of life. Elaborate as much or as little as you like. The first one...I received our new CC's in the mail last Thursday, however now, I can't find what I did with the envelope they were in. I'm worried I accidentally threw it away.

The next one...for over 20 years we were in the ministry full time and thought that's what we'd be doing the rest of our lives. However, life doesn't always go as planned and we quite suddenly and sadly found ourselves out of it and hubby getting a job elsewhere (which has turned out to be a great job for him), me working as well, AND because we never had anyone talking to us about investing, retirement, etc...we in our 40's found ourselves with not a lot saved for the future..so we are scrambling to play catch up.

The last ones...I truly enjoy spending time with my family...enjoying going places, just hanging out. Everyone is busy and sometimes it's hard to find the time.

I have gotten out of the habit of regularly working out. I get my 10,000 steps in but struggle with the other stuff...mostly because various little things that collectively over time just got me out of the habit.

2. What's one thing you wish you had more of? Well, more money in our retirement? More money for dental stuff? Okay, besides those things, I honestly wish I had more time to be at home. I really am a homebody, and love doing things around the house, cooking, baking, etc..with working outside the home, and doing online work, some of the things I would like to put time into have been put on the shelf. I don't forsee me being able to stay home anytime soon, so I make it all work, and try to get things in when I can...I suppose if I created a better schedule for myself or were more self-disciplined with the time I do have, I could get things done since there are millions of women who do it every day. So I guess, self discipline and better organization and prioritizing should be something I need more of.

3. Do you celebrate Halloween? No. I've never been into the scary things, and it seems like decorations, etc, get creepier and more evil looking..no thanks. I like cutesy Halloween things, and if we were in a neighborhood I'd probably have some candy for kids. If so, what are your Halloween traditions? Any special plans for Halloween this year?

4. Last thing you ate that contained chocolate? Probably a piece of candy over the weekend! Last thing you made that called for chocolate? I haven't made anything in awhile that called for chocolate. My daughter did make chocolate brownies last night.

5. Do you prefer laid back weekends or do you like to have a lot of plans? It really depends. I do like to do things on weekends..but if it's been a particularly busy week, or like, in October, most weekends are busy working at the pumpkin patch, I do like to have at least one weekend that is slow....or one day at least. Thinking back to this past weekend... which was it? It was busy. It was the last weekend I helped at the pumpkin patch, so between those hours and then trying to get some groceries, prep lunches for week, etc...there wasn't much down time. I savored my baths.

6. Insert your own random thought here. I'm keeping this short today. I am usually off on Wednesdays but am working for one of the gals today so I need to get some things done before I go. I also need to dig through some garbage and see if I can find a credit card I think I threw away, which I'm hoping I didn't. I'll check cars first.

I hope everyone has a great week...this weekend will be another full one, but I think I'll be home most of it so yay! Grandkids will be here Friday evening, and then at some point on Saturday as my daughter and son in law have a conference at their church. I'll have the kids help me do my seed pumpkins!

With Joy Unquenchable,
Kirstin

  1. I hope you find your credit cards! It's frustrating to not find something you know you had... I agree about scary decorations. Those are a hard pass for me! It sounds cliche but it sounds like your reward will be in heaven. Twenty years in ministry is impressive!

  2. I hope the credit cards turned up. I hate when things like that happen. Lately it's been hubs keys which have always been kept in the exact same spot since we lived here, but he's taken to putting them wherever and then we're scrambling trying to find them. Hope you have a nice weekend!

  3. Oye, I do hope you find that envelope. That is so frustrating. Working and volunteering at the pumpkin patch...you are busy. Enjoy your grands and your pumpkin activity!

  4. I agree with you on Halloween! I actually had a girl out to install some quartz countertops this week and she said she appreciated my cute fall decor. We both agreed that the scary decor is a bit too much, but a nice pumpkin and cute little scarecrow? Perfect!

  5. I hope you've found those credit cards by now! That sounds like something I would do. LOL Whenever I think about how relatively close our retirement is, I also wonder and worry a little about whether we have "enough" in our retirement funds. We're doing our best but we just have to trust God to continue to provide. Hope you're having a great weekend!
