Tuesday Four: Advice

It's time again for Tuesday 4 hosted by Anne from Cottage by the sea. Published each week in memory of Toni Taddeo, it's original author. We keep Toni Taddeo's original idea alive here with 4 questions each week to get you blogging, visiting and  learning about yourself and other bloggers.   The more people join in, the merrier and the better it gets. We are always looking for topics, subjects and ideas so feel free to chime in if you have idea.

We all take and give advice at least once in our lives. Oxford dictionary says that advice is: guidance or recommendations offered with regard to prudent future action.

1. Is there one piece of advice you  were given that you feel has been very important in your life? Oh boy! I'm sure there are many, and I know I don't remember anything word for word, but one thing I try to do is remain un-offendable. I remember hearing a message about this and it really stuck with me. It doesn't mean we are carpets for people to walk all over, but it does mean that we don't let things get under our skin and stay there. When we become offended we close a door, put up a wall, that keeps us from being able to evaluate, understand, etc. Not to mention the potential it has to squelch our joy.

2. What advice do you think is important for building good personal relationships? I feel like it's so important to have good communication and to allow each relationship to be authentic, each person to be who they truly are, to not put unrealistic expectations on each other.

3. Do you give advice to friends when they have problems to solve or do you refrain unless asked? I tend to gauge each conversation...if we're having a conversation and a thought comes to mind that might fit into the conversation well, I may say it, but usually I try to refrain unless it's asked for.

4. What advice can you give us today? Take time to listen and have a conversation, especially with those who may think differently than you. Be willing to sit at the table and hear someone's heart, where they're coming from. Be willing to have friendships with people who you may not agree on everything with...friendships are easy when we agree on everything. Obviously we are going to choose those who are healthy for us, because Lord knows some people would stress us out, BUT I feel like we close ourselves off way too often to relationships that could be so good for us. We can also lose friendships when everything is based on one aspect of our lives, and if that changes, all to often, those relationships end, and then what! (Speaking from experience).

I loved this meme I saw floating around awhile back and just had to go find it again. It seemed fitting..haha.

With Joy Unquenchable,
Kirstin
