Wednesday Hodgepodge....It's Fall Y'all!

It's time for Wednesday Hodgepodge with Joyce, who blogs at From This Side of The Pond.  Each week she'll pose some questions for us to answer. What a great way to journal life.

1. It's officially fall y'all...in the northern hemisphere anyway. What are three of your favorite things about this particular season of the year? I love the cool mornings, and slightly warm afternoon. The changing of the leaves (I LOVE fall colors). Decorating my home for fall with all the coziness. I'm adding another because I love farm stands and pumpkin farms.

2. Your favorite fall fabric-denim, flannel, tweed, corduroy, tartan, polar fleece, leather? Do you own something made with your favorite fall fabric? Whatever is cozy and comfy..usually leggings with a warm sweatshirt of flannel. I've gotten out of "dressing trendy" but sometimes I think I should buy some cute fallish outfits. I need someone to shop with me. Any volunteers?

3. According to Everyday Health here are ten healthy fall foods- apples (flavonoids may improve brain health), pears (for heart friendly fiber), cranberries (helps your body fight oxidative stress) winter squash (for eye health), pumpkin (another great source of Vitamin A), leeks (an anti-inflammatory food), brussel sprouts (full of fiber and anti-oxidants), sweet potatoes (loaded with Vit A and C), parsnips (keep your bones healthy with Vit K), and broccoli (may help prevent cancer).

How many on the list do you eat on a regular basis? I would say I eat most except parsnips, leeks and cranberries. Which one is your favorite? I'm going to go with pears for the fruits and broccoli for the veggies, it just depends on how they're cooked.  Which one gets a big no thanks from you? I'll try most anything. I wouldn't say any of these are a no thank you.

4. Tell us about the last time (or a recent time) you experienced a wave of nostalgia? I often have waves of nostalgia thinking about my parents and my maternal grandma who have all passed away. I think about them all the time, how they would enjoy certain things I'm seeing and doing. Also as my girls get older, I sometimes think back to when they were younger and we had them kind of all to ourselves.

5. Sept. 22nd was National Daughter's Day. Like mother, like daughter...does this idiom ring true for you? In some ways yes. I am much like my mom in many ways, and people say I look like her. I also see myself in certain ways in my own daughters. You may answer in terms of your own role as a daughter or, if you have daughters, then your role as a mother of daughters.

My girls and I above and my mom and I below at our wedding.

6. Insert your own random thought here.

We are finishing up a 4 day getaway to the Oregon Coast with our girls, a few friends and my in laws. The weather has been AMAZING! I love the Oregon coast and all it's rugged beauty. Our girls and grandkids left yesterday. We leave this morning (Tuesday). We may have one more weekend getaway before the years up but that will just be my hubby and I. We played on the beach, explored, played games and just enjoyed being together. Of course there were a few moments of irritation, haha...let's just keep it real. But all in all it was a nice time. I'm trying to get this post done Tuesday as Wednesday I work and then I'm going out with a friend for dinner and to browse some bookstores.

S'mores on the beach with great grandpa. I love that my grandkids get to experience their great grandparents...one set. My parents have both passed away. They do have a great grandma on their dads side who is very vibrant and they love her.

The Oregon coast is stunning. Always worth a visit if you're in the area.

We found a swing on the beach and the kids loved it.

Building sand castles until the tide came in.

This is Proposal rock, one of many Sea Stack rocks along the coast. It is said that a sea captain took his "beloved" there to propose. While we were here we saw either an actual wedding or wedding photos being taken and a few other photo shoots in front of the rock. What a fun idea.

With Joy Unquenchable,
Kirstin

  2. I love the Oregon coast! So beautiful! I do a lot of online shopping, try on at home, then return. Most places have made returns easy now. I don't live close to great shopping, but need a dress for a wedding in November so I might have to break down and go in to an actual store.

    1. It is gorgeous isn't it? When my oldest daughter got married, it was a December wedding, and I went to Burlington Coat Factory and found a beautiful dress, for not much at all.

  3. Enjoyed all your answers! Looks like a wonderful vacation time on the Oregon coast - so beautiful! And I especially like the photo of the kids toasting marshmallows with great-grandpa. What a special memory to create. Hope the rest of your vacation and your trip to the bookstores was/is wonderful!
