Wednesday Hodgepodge

It's time for Wednesday Hodgepodge with Joyce, who blogs at From This Side of The Pond.  Each week she'll pose some questions for us to answer. What a great way to journal life.

1. Something that's had you 'chuffed to bits' recently? I had to look up with that meant. Hmmm..I'm going to say heading to the beach with family this weekend. It's so hard to get everyone together, and even this time my SIL can't come, and people are coming in at different times. But I'm just excited that we'll all be under one roof and enjoying each other.

2. Tell us about an instance recently where you were tempted to 'throw a wobbly' (expression used to describe tantrums thrown, usually by adults or people who should know better) I'm stealing Joyce's because I had the same thing...I found a beautiful mug at a garage sale (my neighbors house and she's the owner of a boutique shop in town and this mug was probably one she sold at one point there)..well, I brought it home, loved it so much, and then one day last week one of my vitamin bottles fell out of the cupboard, landed on the handle and busted it right off. I was so upset. Then kind of shook my head at how upset I had gotten..but I mean, it was a pretty mug.

3. Something everyone seems to love but is not your 'cuppa tea'? Okay, I'm going out on a limb here, don't hate me...but I'm going to say indoor pets. It's not that I'm against it, but we have never had them in the 32 years we've been married and my hubby is especially opposed to them (and actually doesn't enjoy visiting homes that have them...sorry), that I've just gotten used to not having any. I grew up with them. Also, if they aren't well behaved around guests or I end up leaving with my clothes full of pet hair, it's just not my cuppa tea. Plus we are so busy that I don't feel we could give them the time they deserve.

4. Fish and chips, bangers and mash, shepherd's pie, roast beef with Yorkshire pudding...which entree would you choose? easy one for me...fish and chips. I LOVE fish! The others sound good too, though I would probably pass on the bangers and mash! Yes, you have to choose.

5. Something you want for your birthday this year? Funny, I was thinking about this the other day because my birthday is in December. I was going to tell my daughters they could get me concert tickets to Dan & Shays Christmas concert tour that's coming to Portland. Other than that, maybe a couple new attachments to my pasta maker.

6. Insert your own random thought here. I mentioned above we are heading to the beach this weekend. I'm looking forward to it...then October gets a bit busy. I help at my son in laws family's pumpkin patch on the weekends. It is a lot, especially working during the week, but I really do enjoy it and the extra money isn't bad either.

This last week I've made two meals for coworkers of my hubby who have faced some tough things. I've kept it simple, spaghetti, garlic bread, salad and homemade cookies. I bought pre-made garlic bread and bagged salad (sometimes you just have to keep it really simple) but made the pasta sauce and cookies from scratch.

Last Saturday I helped my daughter with her coffee cart at a vintage barn sale...so many awesome things, but I refrained from buying anything.

One of the vendors in the booth next to ours saw a reel my daughter made on Instagram about. making her own Pumpkin Spice syrup so she made these and gave them to us. Aren't they cute.

Sunday we headed to Hood River, Oregon for the day. If you live in the PNW it's a great place to go during any season, but during late summer, early fall the Fruit Loop is a wonderful 35 mile loop where you can visit over 30 farm stands of all kinds. We really enjoyed it. We sampled fruit, bought apple cider donuts and ended up with BBQ on the waterfront from a popular food truck.

With Joy Unquenchable,
Kirstin

  2. Beautiful pictures of Mt. Hood! I had to pull myself together too afer breaking my mug. Totally my fault, but still it was so frustrating. It kind of fell in slow motion and I almost had it. Tea went everywhere too which no fun. My hubs didn't say a word. I think maybe he wanted to though lol. He just got busy cleaning it all up and told me to carry on with what I was doing. He has tried putting it back together but I think I'll be too nervous the handle will pop off one day. Have a great day!

    1. Thank you Joyce. Haha..I think if my hubby said anything I would've held up a hand and said "don't even say a word". Several years ago I had a full cup of coffee on the counter. I opened the cupboard above it (I probably should just stop doing that), and something fell out, landed IN the cup, sending coffee everywhere.
