Weekend Coffee Share....Come Sit with Me
It's another week of Weekend Coffee Share. I always love everyone's posts. Are you like me and try to visit everyone? It doesn't always happen but I try. I have loved getting to know different bloggers and I figure if they take the time to write a post, I'll find the time to visit, even if it's a week later. I truly enjoy what you all share and I often learn so much.
Check out all the other posts on Weekend Coffee Share, hosted by Natalie the Explorer. I'm off to go visit some now. #weekendcoffeeshare.
If we were having coffee we might talk about:
We are back to our regularly scheduled programming.
The weather: Well, the weather definitely isn't "Hawaii". It has been so cold, but also really wet, with some heavy rains, and snow off and on. It has tried to snow at our house a few times, but quickly turns to rain. I told someone yesterday, I don't mind if it's cold and dry, or warm and rainy (okay, I do mind if it's rainy), but cold and rainy is miserable. Basically we will have rain and snow mixed, for the next 3 or 4 days.
What we're thinking about: I've been thinking about quite a bit, but the other day at work a gal came in to send a book out. It was a large book, and as we chatted, she said her grandmother wrote it. This wasn't just some small, short book. It was HUGE and had to have had over 200+ pages, and was beautifully put together. I asked her if I could look inside. I can't believe the time it must've taken to put it together. When she left I thought, "man, that would be so cool to have". I almost wanted to ask if I could have one just so I could read it. I'm contemplating calling her and asking her. It just made me think of how little I know of my own family's history. I have a feeling this was a large family. Possibly apostolic Lutheran, but I'm not sure. I just hope the family appreciates the love that went into it. Another lady came in and mailed off some simple spiral bound "books" to some of her family. It was 50 years of Christmas letters she had written. Again, I thought "wow, that is so neat". If I got either of these things in the mail I would think it was so cool. Now, I did get something years ago, that my cousin put together that was a simple honor to my great grandparents. I'm seriously considering trying to collect some things from both sides of the family to just put together as a momento, perhaps for my sister and I and our kids.
What we're thankful for: Today I'm thankful for the opportunity to reconnect with my childhood friend and meet some new ladies via the e-group I joined (I mention it below). AND to grow and learn more about myself through the book study we are doing. One gal said it's like going on a scavenger hunt for myself. To find and discover who I truly am at my core.
Around the house: Today we ordered blinds for the house addition. We are also putting together a new desk. We got it on Amazon because at the moment we didn't want to invest a lot, though, as my hubby is putting it together, he's wishing he had just spent the money..haha. It'll hopefully work for now. We also are purchasing some ceiling fans. I need to get out and prune my blueberries, but boy, this weather hasn't cooperated.
For the love of food: Last night we made homemade pizzas. So good. I wanted to do a sourdough crust, but I didn't realize it took longer than I had. Other meals I made were:
*Roasted chickpea Broccoli Power Bowls (added chicken to it)
*Avocado Toast on homemade sourdough
*Chicken Soup
*Broccoli Fritters (I made these to create a reel for the blog I VA for)
*Pulled Pork chili and sourdough cornbread
What we're reading or wanting to read: I read quite a bit in February, between Audio, physical and Kindle. I read a lot while flying to and from Hawaii, and I've been more intentional. Not sure I'll get that many read in March, but that's okay. Right now I'm reading Everything Sad is Untrue by Daniel Nayeri. This is part of my 12/12 challenge. I'm not that far into it yet. I'm trying to get a few others finished. I'm over halfway done with The Most beautiful Thing I've Seen: Opening Your Eyes to Wonder by Lisa Gungor. This one has been ongoing and I just want to finish it. I also have an Advanced Readers Copy of a book by the author of Hammers to Homicide Paula Charles, titled An Escape Goat: A Zen Goat Mystery This book is under her pen name, Janna Rollins. It's releasing in a few weeks, so I need to get it read quickly so I can do a review.
I also realized that I forgot to join in on the February WOYBS link party. Hopefully I'll remember next month.
I'm also doing a book study with an e-group that a friend of mine is doing with her church in South Carolina. I saw her mention it on FB and I looked up the book and it sounded good and I really thought it would be great to reconnect with her in this way. It's by Steven Furtick called Do the New You. Today was the first meeting.
What we're listening to or watching: I have continued to listen to my favorite podcasts when new episodes come out. I find that I like them when they're short and sweet. I'm listening to the book Daring Greatly by Brene Brown. I haven't really watched much on TV. While working on my puzzle, my hubby was watching an episode of Blue Bloods (which I like that show) so I watched/listened as well. I watched a, I think it was on Netflix, movie/documentary about Elvis, and the movie about Whitney Houston. So heartbreaking.
Favorite quote: I finally started participating again in #WQ but I never found a link for last weeks 2/28 post but here's the link and one of the quotes I found. I chose to have my post be about Memorabilia/Things.
Favorite photo(s):
We've had the grandkids up the last few evenings because the church my girls attend is having a youth conference. Last night we did some painting and coloring.
Random or not so random things: It's nice to be back in the groove of things. Though did anyone else feel like the week was a bit wonky. Both my boss and I worked days we weren't scheduled to work, so that just messed us up. We joked that we really should've just closed on Leap Day, since, after all it was an extra day right? I also didn't realize that so many places were having sales and fun specials on the 29th. Of course I had to work and didn't really know about them so I didn't enjoy those perks. *
I don't know about all of you, but I have a love/hate relationship with. my dentist. I love them, they're great, fair and have always done well by my poor teeth, but I HATE having my teeth worked on. Last Wednesday I was supposed to have a cleaning. This appointment was rescheduled because my days babysitting changed from Wednesdays to Tuesdays. Well, I left with plenty of time to get there (usually takes 20 minutes, I gave myself 30). About 10 minutes in, I see a sign on the Interstate that says "left lane closed ahead for road work". Great, I think, then traffic starts really slowing down, almost to a stop. I enter the address to see my ETA and it shows 15-20 minutes past my appointment. Uggh. I also volunteered to work that day, forgetting I had the appointment. I wasn't supposed to be there til 10:00, my appointment was for 9:00 so I figured I wouldn't be too late getting back. But this threw a wrench in it. I called the office and told them my predicament. Of course, they are super busy and booked, and normally only allow for a 10 minute "late" period, which I get. They said I could still try to get there and they could maybe at least do the exam and x-rays (which I hate), and reschedule the cleaning. But I still had no guarantee what traffic would be doing, so I just said "let's reschedule". Well, now I'm rescheduled for MAY! I am on a cancellation list and hoping I can get in sooner. I took the next exit and turned around. What a morning!
Life, otherwise, has been fairly typical. Hubby was sick for a few weeks with some sort of sinus/head thing, but is feeling better. I'm glad I did the IV vitamin infusion before my trip and when I got home I said "don't come near me, I can't get sick." haha.. Poor guy. Then I slept in the spare bedroom til I was sure he was feeling better. Sorry, but I just don't want to be sick, so whenever he's sick, or I'm sick, I'll sleep in another room.
I'll end for now since the grandkids will be here this evening.
Kirstin

Oh I get the whole dentist thing Kirstin, love/hate is a great way to put it! Enjoy your spring weather and flowers :)
ReplyDeleteThank you Deb
DeleteOh I am definitely going to be trying that chickpea power bowl; I'm excited to see I already have all the ingredients on hand too. My grandfather put together a huge bound book about our ancestry. I knew he traced our roots back to the mayflower and he put so much work into the "book" but it's not accompanied by a story or clear labels so I don't always know what I'm looking at or the significance of it. I still treasure it though!
ReplyDeleteit was really good! That's cool about your grandpa. This lady definitely put a lot into this book. I'm tempted to track the gal down who sent it and ask if I can buy a copy haha
DeleteThe roasted chickpea bowl looks so good! I use to be on a sourdough kick but I had so much discard it was hard to keep up. I used the discard to make pretzels, crackers, popovers, etc. In the end I stopped keeping a starter.
