Taking in Life Around Me.....#Sundaystills......Theme: Rainy Days

This #sundaystills challenge is hosted by Terri from Second Wind LeisureIt's a great themed photography challenge that you'll enjoy. I love seeing the other participants interpretation of the theme each week...it causes me to think outside the box. I joined in hopes of it pushing me to get out and take more photos...I have to some degree, but I also like that Terri is okay with us finding photos in our archives, which is also a lot of fun. So check out my photos and then head over to Terri's page to participate or visit other's posts. There are some awesome contributors who always inspire me.

This weeks theme is "Rainy Days". The song lyrics immediately came to mind "Rainy Days and Mondays always get me down"....though in my case, probably not the Monday part, and I really try hard not to let the rainy days part get me down either. Haha!

I knew we had done this theme before so I went to see what photos I had shared. I didn't want to share the same ones and I didn't have too many new ones, because, #1...I wasn't remembering what the theme was in order to be paying attention and #2...I don't care for rain so going out in it isn't my cup of tea.

I took these two photos quite a few years ago with my very first DSLR camera. They were dahlias I was growing on our property (which not long after, never came back up). It was fun capturing the rain drops on them.

Wet ferns and moss I spotted during a hike at Multnomah Falls...they thrive in our wet PNW climate.

One day I took my camera out in an attempt to capture some rain drops on the trees. I wanted to get closer in order to see maybe a reflection, but I couldn't get it right. I also have one of those fun glass balls that people use, but I always seem to forget to take it out and play with it.

No sitting outside at this cafe in the village of Bellagio, Italy. It was a wet day when we visited, which I was kind of bummed around, but I just loved this building. I think I went in and got a coffee from it.
Most of our days in Hawaii were sunny and beautiful, but we did have a few cloudy and drizzly days. My last day was pretty wet, but depending on where we were on the island, it cleared up. The top and bottom pic were in Honolulu.

The day we went to Haleiwa, it was drizzly and just when they were done surfing, it decided to dump for a few minutes. Thankfully it doesn't last long.

Last year on my trip to Ohio, a storm came up off the lake. High waves and lots of rain, which shut down the ferry for a day. The tricky part about being on an island is weather plays such a big factor in the ferry running.

I have no idea where I took this photo above. It might have been in one of my pots, but I honestly can't remember.
More storm clouds over lake Erie!
Last but not least, in our area, we get hit with freezing rain. In January we were hit with snow, and then freezing rain on top of it. Yikes. That was NOT fun. I had never seen it before and then when I was a senior in HS I visited Portland and experienced it for the first time. I would say we get hit with it at least once a year. The Portland area and Columbia River Gorge seem to get hit the hardest. I thought I had read somewhere not long ago (though I can't remember where) that the Columbia Gorge has a very unique weather system.

With Joy Unquenchable,
Kirstin

  1. Beautiful captures of rain and its effects on the environment or any fun you might have! You reminded me that we bought rain ponchos when we visited the Big Island and walked through the lava tube in Volcanoes NP. The rain really comes and goes rapidly in Hawaii. Yes the 84 corridor in Oregon is Ice storm central according to my cousin who lives in Beaverton. We chatted about the idea of living there years ago because it is so close to windsurfing.
But I wanted to say your images of the pine branches with dripping drops looks spectacular, Kirstin! Frame-worthy!

  2. Love the Dahlia photos and the Italian cafe. Reminds me of those in France that I used to love visiting. I hope you had a good time in Hawaii. Seems like it's been cold, wet and windy a lot lately here. Of course, it's all relative!

  3. Beautiful Dahlias! I enjoyed the rest of your photos as well, especially the storm clouds over Lake Erie. Freezing rain is awful, but I love the macro image. ]

  4. I'm a huge fan of rain drops and dew drops and the magic of them on plant/tree surfaces. I enjoyed the photos you took and chose to share. There's something so fascinating about a storm coming over the ocean - it looks so daunting, yet it can be there and gone in such a short time. The sun coming out after is so enchanting! Well done for the rainy prompt!
