Taking in Life Around Me.....#Sundaystills: Theme...Sunrise or Sunset....or both

This #sundaystills challenge is hosted by Terri from Second Wind LeisureIt's a great themed photography challenge that you'll enjoy. I love seeing the other participants interpretation of the theme each week...it causes me to think outside the box. I joined in hopes of it pushing me to get out and take more photos...I have to some degree, but I also like that Terri is okay with us finding photos in our archives, which is also a lot of fun. So check out my photos and then head over to Terri's page to participate or visit other's posts. There are some awesome contributors who always inspire me.

Holy cow...it's been a bit of a struggle to post and comment this month...not sure why. I promise to make it around to comment on everyones posts from last week. I'm always so inspired by what each person captures. I'm trying to motivate myself to take my camera out more, and have actually considered getting a smaller, lighter camera so it's easier to take around than my DSLR...so if you use something other than a larger DSLR, I'd love to know what you shoot with.

This weeks theme is sunrises and sunsets. I must say they are both my favorites. I'm glad I'm a morning person, though I sure wish at times my house wasn't surrounded by so many trees and I could enjoy both sunrise and sunset....I'm often not highly motivated to leave that early to capture it...need to work on that.

I have to say the sunset in Venice was pretty!

I spy with my little eye Canada. When we visited Orcas Island a few years ago we had a great view of the Puget Sound and Canada in the distance. The sunsets were gorgeous.

Sunset in Sunriver down by the horses. This guy wanted to be in the pic.

Sunrises over Lake Erie are a fave. So are the sunsets depending on where you are. When we were there in 2022, our house was just down the road from the lake front, so I walked down each morning to enjoy the sunrise. I shared the sunsets the last time we did a sunset/sunrise #sundaystill

We captured a few sunrises and sunsets on our trip to the East coast in 2022.

I felt like this butterfly embodied the colors perfectly!! As did the flower it's perched on.

Another sunrise in Plymouth, Mass.
Sunrises and sunsets in Cabo as well....does anyone else just love the way the sky changes if you wait long enough?

I didn't capture many sunrises or sunsets in Hawaii, but we did get a bit of sunset while in Waikiki.

The home where we stayed in Hawaii was in an area that was great for walking and I tried to go on a walk every morning as soon as it was light. This lagoon area had a walking path around it.

  2. You have such a spectacular collection of sunsets and sunrises from so many locales, Kirstin. I know what you mean about feeling a little mountain-blocked. I've managed to catch a few from the yard of the sun rising or setting just over the rooftops of our growing manufactured home neighborhood. Soon we will both be mostly enjoying sunsets as our sunrise times get much earlier.
We had some decent sunsets in Waikiki. Anytime we can capture the sunrise on the ocean or in my case the Sea of Cortez is always special. I can see that the sunrises over the Great Lakes must be quite amazing! Thanks for sharing this week!

    1. Thanks Terri. I love where we live but we are in a "hole" surrounded by trees.

  3. Beautiful skies! The sunsets on Lake Erie tugged at my heart a bit. When we head back to Pennsylvania for the summer we are only 30 minutes away from Lake Erie. Where do you go when you visit Lake Erie? Thanks so much for sharing your lovely photographs!

    1. Thank you nancy. I go to Kelley's Island..off of norther Ohio, Lakeside Marblehead. That's where most of my aunts and uncle live. My aunt has a vineyard and wine tasting room on the island.

  4. Your collection is glorious. It's amazing how a sun can set and rise around the world and look the same, yet different enough for us to be fascinated with it each time it rises and sets. All of your photos are splendid. I liked the one of the phone taking the photo too, very creative. When I don't want to take my DSLR I take my Canon point and shoot camera. It is easier to carry and it does 'okay' on photos, I don't play with it as much as I should, but it'll be with me on my next trip so we'll see if I can capture any photos! I hope you have a great week!

    1. Thank you Shelley....I got behind on responding to people's comments. YEs, I agree, how it can look so different. What an amazing creation this world is. I did that one with the phones at CHristmas of my daughter taking a picture of my grandson making cookies. I'm considering getting something smaller too becasue like you said, sometimes I don't want to take my big, heavy DSLR with me, but then I think I'd rely on that too much.

  5. A fabulous selection of sunrises and sunsets, Kirstin. I particularly love the Venice photo, the butterfly, the reflection in the last photo and the photo of your phone taking a photo. The lake ones too.
