Putting Fingers to Keyboard....#WQ: Weather/Spring Vernal Equinox

It's another week of  Wednesday Quotes, hosted by Marsha from Always Write. If you're interested in joining, you can find more about #WQ here

This weeks theme is weather/Spring Vernal Equinox. I am so happy spring is here. Just this last week, we experienced almost summer like weather with several warm days. The difference was that the mornings and evenings were chilly and it took several hours for the temps to get to the upper 60's/70's. You better believe we took advantage of those moments.

When signs of spring begin to make themselves known a certain thrill comes over me. I enjoy watching everything emerge in it's own time. The trees down the street. My own chaotic patch of daffodils. The crazy Forsythia. The buds coming on my lilacs and blueberries. When I walk in the post office to pick up mail for my workplace, I hear the little cheeps of tiny chicks waiting to be picked up (I'm honestly amazed that people ship chicks and they arrive alive...lol)

I read not long ago about a concept that made so much sense to me. Think of it this way...January 1st comes. We've just come off a lot of holidays, Christmas is over, there's a "letdown" of sorts. We're not gathering with family as much (holidays are over). It's still winter....dark, wet, (in many areas). Everything in nature is still dormant (in many places). But in the spring, things start to bloom, to come to life. So for many people, perhaps spring is the better time to set goals and intentions, or resolutions. And maybe for those people, winter is the time to prepare the soil, to sit with the ideas that are brewing, to create lists, to sow seeds, to get ready. And when spring comes, we activate those things.

I'm guessing that's not for everyone, but I love the concept. Especially living in the wet PNW during winter. It's hard. Sure our spring is wet too, but winter can be tough. I plan to think more on this, because I think it will be a good practice for me.

So why should we hurry? Nature takes it's time, it knows when it's ready. We should take our time, trusting that everything will be accomplished in our time.

Haha. Isn't this the truth!!! We joke that in central Oregon you can experience all 4 seasons in one day. I don't live there but we like to vacation there and spring is known for crazy weather.

I was going to come up with my own poem...but I'm just glad I posted. At some point I'll work on my own.

With Joy Unquenchable,
Kirstin

  1. One thing I like about haiku, Kirstin is that they are only 17 syllables long, and you can do the short version that is only 8 syllables. So here is my found version of your MT Quote:

    Counted in ONE day
    One-hundred-thirty-six kinds
    Of springtime weather

no title necessary, using most of his words rearranged in a different order. It's like a puzzle, and I know you love those.

I loved your post, BTW. Enjoy the rain and the lovely weather soon to come your way. :) xxx

  2. Love the quotes you shared, and the photos - especially of daffodils! I like the idea of setting goals and going for a fresh start in spring. It is sort of the start of a new year, even if our calendars are aligned differently. I'm ready for warmer weather and some fresh starts here!
