This #sundaystills challenge is hosted by Terri from Second Wind Leisure. It's a great themed photography challenge that you'll enjoy. I love seeing the other participants interpretation of the theme each week...it causes me to think outside the box. I joined in hopes of it pushing me to get out and take more photos...I have to some degree, but I also like that Terri is okay with us finding photos in our archives, which is also a lot of fun. This weeks theme is the monthly color challenge which is pink and red. I'm in Hawaii so this week I was intentional to grab some photos. Enjoy.
We had some of the best bowls and these strawberries were like candy. Some of the sweetest I've ever had.
This board outside the life guard station caught my eye!
Surf boards galore!!!!
This was outside the surf shop where my daughter and her friends rented boards.
Each morning I've been going on walks on a path near the house we are staying at. I spotted these flowers by the clubhouse.
Of course we've stopped and gotten coffee each morning on our way to wherever we are going.
While we are here, they are celebrating the Chinese New Year. There were some beautiful lanterns elsewhere but I wasn't in a position to get a photo. This photo isn't great, but hey, I also spy some pink on some clothing.
These roses were in the window at the Lego shop in the Alo Moana mall...which is the largest open air mall with over 4 million square feet and over 350 stores, restaurants and boutiques. WOW.

Pink Leis around this sculpture in Waikiki. This sculpture is of Makua and Kila and is based on a children's story about the Hawaiian values of love and respect. Makua, the boy, befriends a harbor seal who becomes his surfing buddy but he can't convince anyone that it is true. It was done in 2001.
Living near the Oregon and Washington beaches, I can't recall really seeing any life guard stations. Perhaps there are some, but I don't think so.
We are on Oahu, and closer to Honolulu area, so I haven't seen the birds, that I'd love to see. However, I've spotted these beauties a few times. This one came to visit while we sat outside at a coffee shop on the water. And now I'm really excited because when I looked it up, this is a red crested cardinal. I love cardinals. I may try to capture a few more.
While the girls snorkeled, I visited a botanical garden. It's winter, so there's not a lot of color, but I did spot a few things. It's funny how when we're in a hot, sunny climate, we don't think "winter", and that things go dormant. I just expect year round color in nature.
I did spot a few Plumeria on a couple trees.
In the particular garden I was in, the Koko Crater Botanical Garden, there were flowers from all over, not just Hawaii, so I'm not sure what the flowers above and below are.
The remaining photos below were from our trip to the NE States in 2022. I found them a few days ago and wanted to include them.
We are enjoying our trip. I'm with my daughter and two of her friends. It's my first time in Hawaii. We are staying close to Honolulu, but we've been to the other sides and I have to say, the more "nature rich" sides, are my kind of place. I'm not really a city girl anyways, but it's been a great experience.

I'm so glad you took time out of your busy tourist schedule on Oahu to share some of your gorgeous images from around the area, Kirstin! I've been there several winters, so you are right about many flowers not having bloomed out yet. Funny how the plumerias bloom first then the leaves pop out later. By March those plumeria will be huge and their aroma will waft over everything. I also really liked that Lego flower--how creative! Enjoy the rest of your trip!
ReplyDeleteThanks Terri. I've been waking up really early so I've had a few hours to myself in the mornings, and even a bit before bed to just do whatever. I finally finished my NE States Road trip posts...2 years later...haha!!

ReplyDeleteI’m curious, do you pay for BlogSpot? Have you reached out to WordPress to have them help you migrate your content to WP? They might offer you a really good deal to have your business and do the work for you. Might be worth it (I know…there have been a few WP issues of late, but I believe these are being dealt with).
I have not ever paid for blogger, which has been nice since this is just for fun and I don't anticipate making any money off my blog, so haven't ever wanted to do any financial investments. I've also not reached out to WP about migrating. Maybe I will.
