Weekend Coffee Share....Come Sit with Me
It's another week of Weekend Coffee Share. I always love everyone's posts. Are you like me and try to visit everyone? It doesn't always happen but I try. I have loved getting to know different bloggers and I figure if they take the time to write a post, I'll find the time to visit, even if it's a week later. I truly enjoy what you all share and I often learn so much.
Check out all the other posts on Weekend Coffee Share, hosted by Natalie the Explorer. I'm off to go visit some now. #weekendcoffeeshare.
If we were having coffee, we'd probably talk about: First, once again, I never made it around to commenting. Shoot, I haven't even made it around to reply to comments on my own posts. Ughh! I'm so sorry. I mean, maybe you don't notice, but I always feel bad, and since I'm a smaller blog with not much traffic, I sure notice when no one comments..and I have a few people that I enjoy seeing their comments. Anywho...I can't promise it'll improve since October is gearing up to be crazy..more on that later.
The weather: Are we tired of talking about the weather? We are definitely in fall mode! The rain has returned, though this weekend is supposed to be nice and dry though. We need the rain, but I will miss the sun and blue skies. The grass is already turning green again.
What we're thinking about: I was reading an article by Maria Shriver titled Reframing Aging and Longevity. She shared about the thought we often hear both old and young say "I'm too old". Too old for this, too old for that, too old to try something new, too old to start over, take risks..we age out of jobs because employers think we're too old. My hubby and I both had to look for new jobs in our late 40's and I know we both had that scary thought of being older ones looking for new jobs in fields we knew nothing about. Who would take a chance on us. We don't take care of the senior citizens around us, healthcare, etc...falls to the wayside. This shouldn't be.
In her article she says "each of us is here to live our wildly authentic and deeply meaningful live. And we are meant to do this at every decade of our lives". How good is that. We need to do all we can to take care of ourselves so that we can live our best life at every age we are. I see this in my MIL. She is 78 and has met an amazing friend who is 84. They motivate each other and it has spurred my MIL to walk A LOT. I chuckle when she send me how many steps she's gotten. I'm going a 10k walk with them next week, and honestly, they may leave me in the dust. They may be the ones encouraging me on. I would link the article, but somehow I was able to print it, but now going back, it says I need to be a member of her Sunday Paper site...It was such great food for thought.

What we're thankful for: I'm thankful for different perspectives that help me make decisions on how I want to live and think. I come across many people where I work and as I go about my business in town...and I pay attention to people and their take on life, their circumstances, the circumstances around them. I'm also thankful that I'm willing to learn and grow and that I've chosen to not stay stuck in mindsets that don't serve me well. I know I've said that before but boy, as I get older, the more I see the importance of it all.
What we're reading or wanting to read: Boy, I've been slacking on the reading front. I'm not really sure why. I've downloaded a few e-books that were good deals. I'm still trying to find an audiobook I want to listen to. One book I checked out from the library on kindle is due and I'm only 30% done, so I've placed another hold on it. I think I decided I'll bring my book club book with me on the plane when I go to Ohio in a week and try getting some good reading in there. Hopefully I can finish up The Dictionary of Lost Words soon and move on. I don't remember if I mentioned that I listened to a podcast with Brene Brown and she was interviewing Bono from U2. It was such a great interview and I ended up buying his memoir. It's almost 600 pages, but I'll read it at some point. I'd like to listen to the audio book as well.
My blog reading is kind of slacking too, I'm sorry. I love reading and commenting on blogs, but it's been hard to sit and do it. Maybe just the season, or who knows what...we've been gone a few times and have had grandkids more and that could be part of it. Please know I value each of your thoughts, etc.
What we're listening to or watching: I've enjoyed watching When Calls the Heart...but last week threw a bit of a twist that has me wondering a few things. I have listened to a few podcasts and I'm trying to find an audio book I'd like to listen to. The library has a feature that says "what's available now", that has been nice. I was constantly searching for books only to find they weren't available or the library didn't even have them on audio option.
Around the house: I'm trying to get myself motivated to get fall decor put up, but I feel like I'm rushed for doing things and just haven't gotten into it. Maybe I'll see if I can talk my daughter into decorating. I'll get some pumpkins from the patch or talk my daughter into doing it.
For the love of food: It's soup season...I made taco soup and Chicken Gnocchi soup this week. We went out to eat a few times and the rest of the week was leftovers.
Favorite photo(s): I had what would be a few more fun pictures except they were videos..haha. So I'll share these two from yesterday. Kaitlynn had her coffee cart at an event (a vintage barn sale) and I went with her. Indy tagged along. we had fun and she did great with sales. It's fun watching your kids doing what they love and being a part of it. It was neat to see other parents helping their kids. The vendor next door had her mom along, and the event hosts' parents were on site helping watch grandkids and direct traffic. So special. One of them even let me drive their van to the store to get more supplies so we didn't have to unhook the trailer from our truck we had.
Random or not so random things: October is gearing up to be busy..I'm hoping I find time to post but we'll see how it goes. Between working at the pumpkin patch, going to Ohio and working my day job, I'm not sure I'll have extra time. I hope I will but we shall see.
Next Sunday, the 8th, I'll be doing a 10k with my MIL and her friend. I'm hoping it goes well. My walking has been terrible this week. And I'm thinking I need to lower my standards a bit because I just don't think hitting 70,000 a week is going to happen.
I do have a crazy story to tell and I'll try and keep it short. My husbands company is moving locations and two Saturdays ago, they had a truck and trailer backed up to one of the big bay doors unloading. There were four guys in the trailer moving stuff out. All of a sudden it kind of jerked. They were startled but thought one of the other guys was moving it a little. Then it just jerked and took off..one guy fell out, and the others jumped out, shocked. They realized someone had jumped in the truck and was stealing it. They start yelling, the owner and another guy get in cars and chase it while someone calls 911. They have GPS units on their rigs so they can follow where it's going. At one point the guy stops enough to unhook the trailer and takes off in the truck. The cops catch up and follow, but when they are at a stop sign, they don't pursue (apparently its a new law in Washington.. (Current law sets a higher threshold of probable cause in order to engage in a chase. Under the measure, alleged crimes for which a pursuit can be undertaken include a violent offense, a sex offense, domestic violence-related offenses, driving under the influence of alcohol or trying to escape arrest.) AP NEWS. Well, the owner keeps following the vehicle, loses him, but they still know where he is on GPS...eventually they find him, tell the cops, the guy jumps out and gets away. They recovered the truck and trailer, but man...so crazy! While most of the area is fenced, they think the person got in through a hole in the fence and must've been watching. So nuts!
That's it for this week...I know I could write more, but I have to go grocery shopping.
Kirstin

Good luck with the 10k and don't worry about the 70,000. Just getting out there is what counts
ReplyDeleteThanks Alex. it went well!
DeleteI believe we have to make the most out of every age. Saying "I'm too old" for this and that holds us back. A book I've been hearing about is "4000 Weeks" by Oliver Burkeman on how to make the most of our limited lives on earth. I'll get around to reading it.
ReplyDeleteI agree. That book sounds interesting. I'll have to look into it
