Taking in Life Around Me.....#Sundaystills Theme: Lazy, Hazy Days of Summer

This #sundaystills challenge is hosted by Terri from Second Wind LeisureIt's a great themed photography challenge that you'll enjoy. I love seeing the other participants interpretation of the theme each week...it causes me to think outside the box. I joined in hopes of it pushing me to get out and take more photos...I have to some degree, but I also like that Terri is okay with us finding photos in our archives, which is also a lot of fun. So check out my photos and then head over to Terri's page to participate or visit other's posts. There are some awesome contributors who always inspire me.

This weeks theme is summer!!! I'll admit, it hasn't felt like we've done much in the way of summer activities this year or even trips, most are scheduled for later in the fall/winter. I did scrounge up some pics from the past though.

Summer is for county fairs. These two pics were from a few years ago, but our county fair is going on the next week so we are actually going today.

Sadly, in our area, summer is also the season for wildfires...these were from a few years ago when we had one a little too close to home. We had several friends who were on alert to possibly evacuate. I believe this was in 2015...we have had a few others that have been somewhat nearby, but not close enough that we were in any danger.
At the time, I helped out an elderly lady and as I turned onto her road this is what I could see. It was far enough away from her to not be a threat, but barely. Maybe only a few miles.

Summer, when our girls were younger, was a season of soccer tournaments. From the time they were in the double digits until they graduated, they played club ball and tournaments were a part of summer. We did have a blast as a family traveling to them, doing fun things around the area when there was time, and staying in hotels when they were too far away to drive.
Of course summer is for fun...whether longer vacations or shorter weekend trips. Wave runners on the Columbia River, out of Hood River, Oregon.
A favorite stop in Hood River, is The Old Trunk antique store, which also has yummy ice cream and milk shakes.

Hazy skies in Sunriver, in 2017 from a fire near Sisters, Oregon.

Summer is for dirt bike riding on dusty tracks, which makes for some really dusty air.
Paddle boarding and kayaking on the Columbia River in Hood River. Always a fun time.

Summer is for strawberries and blueberries and blackberries!

Summer is for exploring and lazy walks along the shore looking for fun rocks, shells, or beach glass.
Summer is for frozen desserts. The best are homemade.
Summer is for playing in the sand by the shore of a lake, in August.

It's for coffee by the pool on vacation....

It's for sitting on a deck drinking a frothy coffee.

It's for grilling...even if it's just some bread to use with a charcuterie board.

It's for taking time to sit and read.

It's for relaxing in a hammock.

With Joy Unquenchable,
Kirstin

  1. Love the Ferris Wheels, had to rush past the fire photos and then food. It's my almost dinner time and I see that. Not Fair. Great lazy hazy post Kirstin :)

  2. Your summers look idyllic (except for the threat of wildfires--boy were those close!), Kirstin! Paddling, visiting small towns, enjoying family and friends, travel, etc--you know how to make it look good. Love the pic of your family bellying up to the counter sitting on saddles--how clever! We managed to mostly stay home this summer due to our long road trip last spring. We also have tentative plans for visiting Banff and Calgary in September which will depend on the fires there.

    1. Thanks Terri. love those saddles at that place, so much fun! We discovered it when we did the Hood River Fruit Loop one year. I'd love to go to Banff, and we always thouht it would be fun to go to the Calgary Stampede.

  3. Lovely summer photos, Kirstin, except for wildfires of course. I can only image what that must be like.
Love the idea of reading in a hammock :) and what a fun idea to have saddles on the bar stools. Hope you had a great time at the county fair!

  5. I enjoyed scrolling through all the photos - even the fire ones, although sad, as they're important to show it is possible to get a fire noticed right away under control and show the kindness of people who help their neighbors. All the summer fun you've captured as a family warms my heart. I hope the fair trip this year was fun for you too! Great job on the prompt!!
