Putting Fingers to Keyboard....#WQ...Theme: Mothers Day

It's another week of  Wednesday Quotes, hosted by Marsha from Always Write. If you're interested in joining, you can find more about #WQ here

My dad, mom and myself...I'm not sure how old I was, maybe 3 or 4 at my paternal grandparents house.

This weeks theme is Mothers Day. I have been a mom for 27 years and a Nonni for 4 1/2. Two of my favorite roles. My own mom passed away 19 years ago. There's not a day that doesn't go by that I don't think about her. She was an amazing woman. I'm glad my own girls got a few years to know her as a Nonni. I am thankful for my mother in law who is also an amazing mother and grandmother.

Our 2018 trip to Florida with almost all my moms side of the family (siblings), grandkids, great grandkids...missing about 15ish people who couldn't make it. We were planning a trip and thought it would be fun to celebrate my Grandmas upcoming 90th birthday. She passed away in 2020, the year she would've turned 92. I miss her so much.

I often think of mothers who are mourning the loss of children, either by death, or by loss of relationship. I think of those who have lost mothers, either by death or loss of relationship. Not every mother/child relationship was/is a beautiful thing. Many women long to be mothers and it hasn't happened. Many women do not want to be mothers and have just chosen not to have children, have given a child up for adoption or sadly chosen to terminate a pregnancy. As amazing as this role is, it's often complicated.

Mothers Day 2020...my girls, mother in law and I went and got fresh juices and then walked the lake near my oldest daughters home. It was a perfect day!

Marsha shared something on her post about a homeless man being someone's son and it reminded me of a song I heard awhile back called Somebody's Daughter by Tenille Townes. It broke my heart because the reality is, every single person is somebody's son or daughter and yet their circumstances or choices brought them to where they are today. It gave me a new perspective when I come into contact with anyone.

Ha! I certainly find myself saying and doing things that my mom probably would. Sometimes when I'm with the grandkids I try to think of how much fun she was with my own girls and I know I want to emulate that fun too.

On my wedding day!!! We had fun planning this day together.

A couple of notes I still keep and read!

Funnest grandma! She was willing to do anything and had fun doing it! That's how I always want to be.

I know this should be a no brainer, but we fall into the trap of trying to be perfect, when it just isn't possible. We are fed so much through social media that has us comparing ourselves left and right, no matter where we are at on the mothering journey. This song below cracked me up. We just need to focus on doing the best we can, knowing we won't always get it right. We'll burn the toast, make the wrong breakfast, not be available enough to babysit the grandkids or whatever it is. We just need to unapologetically be ourselves.

Yes!!! We always see the quotes about raising our children to not need us anymore. My hope, now that my girls are older is that I taught them and still teach them how to live. The art of living. Not just the basics..keeping a house, cooking, managing finances, but how to truly live life to it's fullest. What an amazing thought. Yes, our kids will always need us..for encouragement, love, advice, companionship, support, but if we've taught them how to live, than that is even more important. I think my mom did that, whether intentionally or unintentionally, she showed me how to live despite any circumstance.

My girls, mother in law and I at my nephews wedding last year.

I thought this quote was really good. One that deserves a little thought. I do believe our stories are interwoven.

My mom with both girls when they were younger. My son in laws cousin took this photo and did a drawing of it. It's one of my favorite pieces in the house.

  2. Adorable Kirstin. I loved Mom Crush. I think I would have had a Mom Crush on your mom, LOL. I have had mom crushes but I think they were born mostly through the Internet and social media. Great post. Someone is probably having a Mom Crush right now after reading your post! :)

  3. That was a beautiful post, Kristin! What a tribute to your mom and MIL. Your mom sounds like an amazing lady. I enjoyed the photo from your childhood. That 70’s vibe. My parents’ style looked a lot like yours. Oh, and Mom Crush is pretty hysterical.

  4. I loved this Mother's Day post and the quotes you found. I especially like the one about the art of mothering being teaching children the art of living. I think I'll save that one. I love that you are a Nonni! I'm Nonny to my two granddaughters and people find it so unusual.
