Tuesday 4: Home Sweet Home

Home Sweet Home

It's time again for Tuesday 4 hosted by Anne from Cottage by the sea. Published each week in memory of Toni Taddeo, it's original author. We keep Toni Taddeo's original idea alive here with 4 questions each week to get you blogging, visiting and  learning about yourself and other bloggers.   The more people join in, the merrier and the better it gets. We are always looking for topics, subjects and ideas so feel free to chime in if you have ideas. Welcome!  It's time again for Toni Taddeo's Tuesday 4.

How would it be if we talk about some things related to home?

1. What styles of décor do you like?  Mid Century?  Colonial?  Contemporary?
I would say I can almost always find something in most decor styles that I like. I'm not a fan of victorian decor and I'm not sure about colonial. I have a very eclectic style...if I see something that catches my eye, I'd buy it, no matter what the style is. I like to mix and match. I love antiques, but I also love new stuff.

2.   What  makes your bedroom comfortable? My bedroom is my least decorated room in the house. I just never know what to do with it. I mean, we don't spend a lot of time there, but I do have a desire to make it comfy. I am on the hunt for a new bedding set which I think will help. We've also thought about putting a comfortable chair in there. I think once I find a bedding set, then that might be what makes it comfortable. I'm not sure. I'd like to find some neat things to put on the walls.

3   What do you think makes a home comfortable and welcoming? The atmosphere the home and those living in it is huge. Sometimes smells and scents can be welcoming, especially if they come from the kitchen. I feel much more comfortable entering a clean home than a home that's very chaotic and messy. Not in a "you know, people live here" way, but days of dishes in the sink or pet hair all over furniture, sticky things when you touch something. A spotless, everything in it's place home doesn't equate comfortable and welcoming to me, but also neither does a home filled with collectibles. It's first and foremost the people who live there and welcome me in. One of my dearest friends from high school had a home that wasn't spotless, but wasn't cluttered, however, her mom was always nervous and it made being inside the home uncomfortable. You were afraid to sit anywhere or do anything because you didn't want to spill or upset her. mom.

4. Do you share your home with pets? No pets here. My hubby has never been a fan of indoor pets. Funny how we both grew up with them, and he doesn't like them and I don't mind. My mom always kept our house clean so you didn't feel like the minute you got up, you were covered in fur. We did have a few outdoor cats, and for a few years before our oldest daughter got married she had a lab but she was an outdoor dog. Our time is spent a lot away from home that I don't think it would be fair to have a pet. If I did, maybe it would be a cat since they're so independent. Would you tell us about them please? Growing up however, we had al sorts of pets. Dogs, cats, parakeets, and when we lived in Ohio, we had chickens and a turkey.

  1. Hi Kirstin, we share a few similarities when it comes to the home front - most notably, no pets and keeping a house clean and orderly, but not overly put together. Comfort, clean lines, and soothing colors are the most important things to me when creating a home space.

  2. Your thoughts about home are very similar to mine. It's the people who make the home comfortable and welcoming, not the stuff inside. We also do not have pets indoors. My mother never allowed it, and so I wasn't used to having pets and neither was my hubby. We've had a few dogs, but they were mostly outdoors except in winter when we lived up north. But we've moved a lot and having pets just didn't always work out for us. Now we enjoy our son and his wife's cute puppies. They are our "grandpups". I enjoyed your answers. A bedroom doesn't need to be heavily decorated to be comfortable. To me it's more about having a comfortable bed and things convenient for storing clothes, etc. (and proximity to the bathroom!). LOL.

    1. Thank you for visiting. There were definitely several answers this week that were similar. It's been awhile since we had a bathroom in our bedroom and now that our other part of the house is finished, I love having that again.

  3. We had pets but they were never allowed on furniture or to jump all over people. Now I have none and that's okay too. I agree that a home is about the people who are there and if a house is clean, neat and simple it is most inviting. It's not easy looking for a bedspread. I am also looking right now.

    1. Thank you for visiting. It's definitely not easy. I'm trying to find something neutral so that I can accent with pillows or throw blankets.
