Weekend Coffee Share.....Come Sit with Me

It's another week of Weekend Coffee Share. I always love everyone's posts. Are you like me and try to visit everyone? It doesn't always happen but I try. I have loved getting to know different bloggers and I figure if they take the time to write a post, I'll find the time to visit, even if it's a week later. I truly enjoy what you all share and I often learn so much.

Check out all the other posts on Weekend Coffee Share, hosted by Natalie the Explorer. I'm off to go visit some now. #weekendcoffeeshare.

I'll be honest, I don't remember if I got around to commenting on anyone this last week. If I didn't it's because I had my grandkids...if I did and don't remember...it's because I had my grandkids and am so tired I don't know what I've done from one day to the next.

The weather: Well, let me tell you! It snowed Wednesday night and Thursday, keeping everyone home. Then Thursday night it was still so cold, everything froze. We still have snow on the ground and the temps aren't warming up. Portland and Vancouver (WA) got more snow than we did, with some areas getting more than 10". They're showing possible snow tomorrow night but I don't think it will. We'll see. The wind was blowing which made for a biting chill. We've had the grandkids here, but since we weren't really thinking about snow, they didn't have any snow clothes packed, so we went out once or twice, for a brief moment bundled up in what they had. Indy and I (mostly I) made a small snowman. Pepper and I have gone for a few walks in the stroller, once the roads thawed. It's now Saturday and they are saying snow again tonight.

What we're thinking about: Ya'll, I have spent almost EVERY waking hour with a 4 1/2 year old and a 2 year old for the last 6 1/2 days. The biggest thing I'm thinking about is, "This is why people my age don't have children now" (and if you do have young ones at an older age (I'm 54), then my hat goes off to you). I'm tired. I'm ready to go back to my normal routine. So let me think, if there's anything else I've thought about other than that....a friend did share a thought on Instagram that I thought was really good, but I think I'll wait and share about it next week, as I'm thinking of how it relates to my own life.

What we're thankful for: Despite being VERY tired, I'm thankful for the time with grandkids, and I'm so thankful my daughter got to go on her trip to Haiti with her husband and two others.

What we're reading or wanting to read: I have not read a single thing this week, except the same 3 books to Indiana every night before bed. I think tomorrow when they go home, I will take a long bath and read.

Our book club is meeting this Sunday to discuss the book Remarkably Bright Creatures, however two have already said they can't make it so that leaves two others I hope will come. I'm a bit frustrated at how hard it is to get people on board with it all.

I still haven't found another audio book. I do have a few options but I knew I'd be babysitting and didn't want to check one out when I knew I wouldn't have time to read it. Okay, it's now Saturday...I checked out Giver of Stars on Audio and have The Alchemist on hold on audio.

Around the house: All of our switches and switch covers are on. Yay. We really only have a few things left to do inside. The bathroom mirrors and light fixtures (on wall), and that might be it. I do need to figure out some things for the walls but I'm not in a hurry. Oh and buy a new comforter set.

I still haven't planted the bulbs I have...though now they're on my porch instead of in our pumphouse..lol.

I'm a bit concerned if it snows tonight (Saturday) because I had planned to go grocery shopping tomorrow. It's not a dire need, usually the week before my hubby gets paid is just a trip for a few things to get through the end of the week. I do my bigger shopping the week he gets paid.

What we've listened to or watched: Let's see....Blippi, Super Kitties, Spidey and Friends, and You Tube worship songs. Life with littles.

From the Kitchen or restaurant: Let's see...I've made a few loaves of sourdough bread. I made steak the other night and my hubby said it's probably one of the best ones I've made so that was encouraging. Indy requested steak as one of the dinners we have when he was here. He and his auntie made a dairy free chocolate cake with dairy free buttercream frosting that was really good. For some reason, it didn't come out of the pan well, and was hard to frost, so we just pretended it was a "track" and put his dino cars and tractors on it..It was really good! I was going to try making pasta with Indy, but his little sister has a hard time entertaining herself and has been very "needy" so I can't focus. I'll try it in a week or so when I have some time.

I bought an oblong banneton for my sourdough and made a loaf with that.

My grandson loves waffles. When my husband was in Australia in the late 80's they stayed in a host home. One of the things the host family loved eating was pancakes with ice cream and syrup on them. He got my girls hooked on it. While Indy was here we had him try it. He LOVED it.  I think he requested them every morning.

A favorite photo

On one of our brief outings outside. This wagon was a prop my daughter used for her Christmas photo shoots, but the kids like riding in it.
We drank lots of hot chocolate with whipped cream and sprinkles. Neither can have dairy so I make it with oat or almond milk, cocoa powder, maple syrup and we buy almond milk whipping cream.

One of our crafts. We tie dyed baby wipes, and then today after they dried, we turned them into butterflies.

Favorite Quote of the week: I didn't do a post for #WQ this week because I just haven't had time to sit and write and look things up. The only reason I'm writing this at the moment is because both kids are miraculously entertaining themselves. I don't know how long that will last. The theme was below.  I did look for a few quotes to just share here and I'll count them as my #WQ post.

Both of these quotes reference the world of nature around us...and yet speak deeply of who we are under the surface. If I wasn't so tired, I'd write more.

Random or not so random things: Like I said above, we've had our grandkids the last week. They came last Saturday and leave tomorrow, or today, depending on when I get this post finished. It's currently Friday. I'm thinking it won't be finished til tomorrow. Anyways. We've had a fun week, but boy, I'm tired. We've had fun treats, done fun crafts, had some rough patches, and Indy was fighting a cold most of the week. There were times I said "I'm not doing this again", but I know I will.

Despite not working all week, (I worked one day), I have still managed to get my steps in, though a few days were questionable. So far I have 2 days with over 11,000 steps and today might go over as well. Yay! However, I have not done any other form of exercise, which stinks. This Sunday ends week 6.

We're making good headway on the puzzle of the State birds and flowers. It's not easy though. It's hard to see some of the small print, so we've been taking pictures of the paper and just zooming in on spots. If you are a puzzle lover, I do recommend White Mountain Puzzles. They are made in the U.S. and the quality is excellent. Oh, I will add, my darling granddaughter, destroyed part of it earlier in the week. We'd been kind of letting her "help", and one afternoon, I was doing something on the computer, and she was being "quiet", I turned and she was leaning over it pushing the pieces towards the middle. Oh man! I finally got most of the pieces back where they go.

When she destroyed it.
After I had the pieces mostly put back together.

With Joy Unquenchable,
Kirstin

    1. It is a bit challenging, but fun. We had to figure out the best way to get going so separated all the pieces with parts of the states and put those together first, then any other "words".

  3. There was a time I was on a bread making kick (pre-pandemic). I've entertained the idea of getting a bannetton, but I wasn't sure how long I would get into bread making so I never bought one. It lasted a good while -- maybe a couple of years -- through my pregnancy and after I gave birth too, but then I stopped. How often do you bake bread?

    1. I really enjoy making it. THere are those in my home who have no self control so I can't make it as often as I'd like. I'd say I make it a few times a month...sometimes more, it just depends.

  4. Kirstin, this is an adorable post. I get tired. When I met Vince I was 43. Since my first husband and I couldn't have kids, I hoped that Vince and I could. Then we babysat for a friend one night. A baby and a toddler. We were both so exhausted that I was less disappointed when he told me he couldn't have any. My hat is off to you, and it makes me even more grateful for the wonderful grandmother I had who put up with me when I was growing up. Your grandkids are so cute but I'm super impressed that you got your 10,000 steps in and had time to do anything but breathe. :)

  5. Hi Kirsten,
Lovely to get together for a coffee and I enjoyed a trip to the snow and your photos of the grandkids. A friend of mine with teens aged 18 and 16 had a baby during lockdown who is now two. I love seeing her photos of him as I've had time to recover from ours as young children wearing us out. She made her son a chocolate cake very similar to your grandson's for his second birthday which he could just demolish with his digger. I thought it was inspired. Hope you have a good week ahead.
    Best wishes,
    Rowena

    1. Thank you for visiting Rowena! I have definitely heard of couples who have two sets of kiddos...two older and then one or two quite a bit younger. I know people do it all the time, but I don't know if I could. Lol!
