Tuesday 4......Home Sweet Home!

Home Sweet Home

a 1939 Living Room

It's time again for Tuesday 4 hosted by Anne from Cottage by the sea. Published each week in memory of Toni Taddeo, it's original author. We keep Toni Taddeo's original idea alive here with 4 questions each week to get you blogging, visiting and  learning about yourself and other bloggers.   The more people join in, the merrier and the better it gets. We are always looking for topics, subjects and ideas so feel free to chime in if you have ideas.

This week the subject is Your Home.

1. What kind of home do you have and does it need repair or improvements this year? We live in a home we built, not had someone else build, but we built. Let's just say we started it in 2006, moved into part of it in 2008, started the other part in 2010, and just moved into that part last year...ha! I have several posts about it if you search home building. I haven't really written any posts on the second phase, however I did a lot of updates on my weekend coffee share posts. So to answer the question..it doesn't need repair or really improvements...we just need to finish some things.

I didn't have time to dig around for another photo of the outside of our house or the back...I know I have one somewhere...the back is one long covered porch. I guess I would say our home is a little craftsman style.

2. How do you accessorize your home inside and out? Plants, art, books, wall hangings, maybe music in the background? I kind of accessorize with whatever catches my eye. I don't really have a theme, and I'm married to a guy who actually has an opinion...this was a shocker when we first got married because my dad didn't care how my mom decorated. My hubby and I have slightly different taste so we've had to learn to compromise. I love plants, but struggle to keep them alive, though I try. I love using baskets, books, photos in my decor. I have some antiques and I love finding unique things at thrift stores. I'd probably have more things, but my hubby is more minimalist than I am...haha. At the moment it feels bare after we took Christmas decor down. I took a few quick pictures this morning.

This is the original side of our house that we moved into in 2008...it was supposed to eventually be a garage, but now it will be more of a family room. It was for years, and I guess still is, a living space, eating (though more now game playing, puzzles, etc), workout, and my office space. I hope at some point to move my desk into the other part of the house where we have an office, but right now it's a catchall for things that still need to be installed.

Another angle of that space. I need to change some things, but just haven't found what I've been looking for.
This is the most recently finished part of the house...kitchen, sitting area, master bed/bath and office.

3. What objects reside on your coffee table? Plant, a few framed photos and a couple seed catalogs. Night stand? A fan, books and water bottle. Side tables? Framed photos, plant on one, lamp on another, two tall glass containers (I don't know what they're called)  Kitchen/Dining table?  A wood tray with a white milk glass chicken.

above : a 1940's Kitchen.

4.  Do you like your kitchen organized and with counters cleared off or do you prefer to have  the things you use often out on counters? I keep things on the counter that I use on a regular basis. Coffee pot, tea kettle, blender, stand mixer and a caddy with daily used utensils. Do you mind  what some might see as clutter or do you hate having to dig out tools and appliances  when it comes time to use them? and prefer to have them within easy reach? I don't mind pulling things out of cupboards to ouse them. Our recent addition included a new kitchen and I have it pretty well organized. It is a little bit of a pain to pull my crockpot, instant pot, air fryer or food processor from the cupboard under the stove (sometimes I have to kneel on the floor to get them) however, that's the best spot for them because of their size.

I love my kitchen space. I want a sign for above the window and need to figure a few more things, but I love it. The island can seat 8 people around it.

With Joy Unquenchable,
Kirstin

    1. Thank you. it is actually a gas stove, but it is beautiful and I love it. It's still a work in progress as we still need to finish some things, and I still need to get some decor pieces, etc.

  2. What an amazing space!! The house looks great from the outside. The kitchen is fabulous! So much storing room. I don't like moving, because each house needs its own decorations and brings its own feel and it takes long to get precisely the things that really fit. Thanks for sharing and have a good week!

    1. It was a lot of work and I told my husband if we ever move again, we'll have someone build it for us or buy one already built...lol. That took way too long.
