Taking in Life Around Me......#Sundaystills....Theme: Silence

This #sundaystills challenge is hosted by Terri from Second Wind LeisureIt's a great themed photography challenge that you'll enjoy. I love seeing the other participants interpretation of the theme each week...it causes me to think outside the box. I joined in hopes of it pushing me to get out and take more photos...I have to some degree, but I also like that Terri is okay with us finding photos in our archives, which is also a lot of fun. So check out my photos and then head over to Terri's page to participate or visit other's posts. There are some awesome contributors who always inspire me.

What is silence? The dictionary says it's the absence of sound or noise; stillness; mute; silent; to compel or reduce to silence.

I'm sure everyone has uttered the phrase "ah, it's finally quiet/silent". We sometimes crave the absence of noice for the silence of a quiet house, or being in nature. I know that while I like being around people, listening to music. sometimes I crave quiet. I want to just be in a silent house, or car.

What does silence look like in photographs? I can't wait to see what everyone shares.

As much as I am a social person and love being around people, I also "savor" (my WOTY) silence. I love quiet moments, especially in the morning if I'm up before anyone else.

"There is a strength to be found in the solitude of quiet moments". Harpreett M. Dayal

I talked these two into "shushing" me...There is rarely a silent moment when these two are around and for some reason they rarely take naps when I'm with them...ha! That's okay though.

A silent Christmas morning before everyone showed up. I loved this morning. The fire (gas) going for ambience but also to help my bread dough rise. I just felt a peace. It was special.

Bookstores aren't always quiet, but this little one was on the day I went in. It was nice, just going in and walking around, if I had time, maybe I would have paused and sat in one of these chairs.

A silent morning with dough rising for rolls on Christmas morning.

I love a quiet morning or evening reading in front of our gas stove. Side note, if you're looking for an Advent read, this one was really good.

"If you listen carefully, the silence is beautiful."

While on our vacation to Ohio last year, I would walk to the end of our road to see the sunrise. It was quiet, only the occasional bird or cicada, the waves lapping on the shore. Some might say "but it wasn't silent", I would beg to differ...it was silent in the way of an absence of other voices, other noises besides the natural sounds of nature.

I love how the snow brings with it a special silence. Everything becomes quiet and still. One that I cherish and enjoy. We've had no snow this year yet, but there's a part of me that hopes we get some.

Sitting on a porch with a fresh cup of coffee enjoying the silence is one of my favorite things, especially if there's a view.

  1. You have shared what silence should look like, Kirstin. Your grandkids are adorable and I'm sure the silence is deafening once they've gone home! The image with the coffee and the image of the quiet Christmas morning are beautiful and poignant! I remember our summer trips to Tuolumne Meadows in Yosemite as a kid/teen and how much the silence literally rang in my ears once we got outside into the forest. I can almost enjoy that here at our home now. I will have to check out the advent book you recommend!

    1. Thanks Terri...haha...yes, it is quite quiet once they've gone home, but I wouldn't wish the noise away. I've yet to go to Yosemite. Someday.
